I found Smucker's Sugar Free Breakfast Syrup, info is as follows:
Serving Size 1/4 C
Calories 30
Sodium 60mg
Fat 0
Carb 8
Sugar 0
Sorbitol 7g
Protein 0
My question is, do I count it as 8 carbs period, or 8 +7 sorbitol? I am confused!

Until you get familiar with label reading and such like, divide the 30 calories by 4 (4 calories per 1 gram Effective Carbohydrate) to get an estimated carb count of 7.5 ...
Any OTHER product, this works, you just subtract any fat calories (9 per gram) and protein calories (4 per gram) first, then divide the remaining calories by 4 to get the Effective Carb Count. Easy to remember.
Or just use the Hidden Carb Inspector on everything... click on TOOLS on the orange menu bar above, or find it over on the right under Quick Links... until you get a chance to read about Sugar Alcohols here in this forum or in TIPS (orange menu bar above) and get familiar.

If the label looks like this:
Carb 8
. Sugar 0
. Sorbitol 7
then the sorbitol is already included in the Carb count. Sao you count it as 8 carbs. Which is a LOT if you are only on 20 gm per day. How about 2 cups of lettuce with oil instead?
Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol which is not considered to raise insulin levels, but sugar alcohols may stall many people.
