on an initial search of this newsgroup, i couldn't find a
similar question, so thought i would ask...

is there any nutritional difference between grapes and
raisins? also, are all raisins made from red/purple grapes? is
there a nutritional difference between red and green grapes?
seedless vs. unseeded?

thanks very much in advance.

Moses here: Yes, there is a difference. Red and purple grapes
have the valuable anthocyanins pigments. However, unless you
chew the grape seed they will simply pass thru your gut
unchanged and thus have no effect on the nutritional value of
your grapes. Indeed, USDA scientist are breeding purple and
red varieties of potatoes as they would more healthful. I
think the same pigment is involved. Purple potatoes look odd
but they taste the same. And red potatoes would just look
really keen/cool/hot/interesting.

BW.................MC

Typos typos......a bird that doesn't know a purple grape from
a purple potatoes.

I'd suggest searching the USDA nutrient database at
<http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/cgi-bin/nut_search.pl>.

There are certainly big nutritional differences between a
given amount of grapes and the same amount, by weight, of
raisins because a much bigger proportion of the grapes'
weight is water.

As I remember from childhood, blue/purple potatoes taste far
better than most other today.
