Hello, is anybody using Coral Calcium? If so what do you think about it? Does it help on a low-carb Atkins Diet? Just heard about it and I'm curious of the benefits using them and also what they would do with a low-carb diet. Thanks in advance to your replies.

Just ordered some coral calcium, I will let you know.
I am going to take it but I feel it is a great product for overall health and longevity. If I get an added benefit with Atkins then I will be happy.

Update
I have been taking Coral Calcium for a week and a half and have noticed that I do not crave the sweets like I use to. It is not that hard to say no to carbs right now. I also seem to have more energy then before.
Also the lbs. are on a slow downhill slide, but whether it is the Coral Calcium is yet to be seen.

Thanks for the update, sounds good. I think I'm going to go ahead and get some. Where did you get yours, I have heard about the ones form that Dr Barefoot or something like that that are the best kind cause the have a lot of Coral Calcium in them. Just curious to see which kind you got either high grade or low grade, I guess it makes a difference.
Thanks,
Corey

Hi Corey:
I'm trying to make sense out of this, too. I've just found a web site at www.cures4you.net that talks about coral calcium. Under "which calcium is right for you" or something close to that, it talks about this Barefoot fellow. Apparently, he's not a doctor and has no degrees, and over the years has hyped several different kinds of calcium. They make it sound like he's just an infomercial type of salesman, so I'd be careful before following his advice.
I'm going to spend some time looking into all of this, so I'll let you know what I find out. Do the same with me, ok?

I just went into the NY Times archives to pull up some references about calcium. This is what I found.

PERSONAL HEALTH; Calcium Takes Its Place as a Superstar of Nutrients

I believe that calcium in any form would work just as well, but the 73 minerals and nutrients that are in the coral calcium was one of the reasons that I started taking it.
I have eliminated a lot of the individual mineral suplements and a lot of the expense by taking the coral calcium 3 times a day.
My 70 year old mother was the one that got me on it, she has been taking it for 7 months. Her body just feels better not as much arthritic pain. I am not endorsing Bob Barefoots' product, but I am endorsing extra calcium for all, and the minerals that are included are an added benefit.

I tried Coral Calcium and could find no benefits.
I had already been taking a calcium/magnesium/zinc supplement anyway, so perhaps that is why I saw no difference.
Dr. Weil is against coral calcium becuase of the possibility of contamination since the collection process is not monitored.
Barefoot is not dr. Just a spokesperson.
The other guy (the one that does the Atkins commercials) says he uses it to stop cravings.
I am going to stick with my regular stuff. Its easier to come by and less expensive.

HerbNurse,
Thanks for the link. It was nice to find what I perceive to be some independent advice.
One of the things that struck me was the statement that whatever company Bob Barefoot is representing, then that form of calcium is the best. In the first infomercial all calcium was good, but coral calcium was the best for absorption.
He did not say then that the marine grade was better than the above ground coral calcium like he did in his last infomercial. I bought some that has been mined above ground (got it at Wal-Mart for $5.88 for 60 capsules that are 1000 mg).
I have noticed less pain in my foot since taking it. I found much of what Bob Barefoot had to say as credible. He comes across as a believable guy.

Bobby:
I am glad you found this link to be of interest.
I have read documentation from the American Medical Association back in 1993 during my employement at a pharmacy that the recommendations for calcium has gone up dramatically over the years. I also know that the other essential minerals besides calcium are indeed just as important to allow our bodies to do what they are intended to do, and that is to heal itself.
I have noticed being more energetic and sleeping so good since taking the coral calcium. I also believe it also has helped me with carb cravings and to not feel hungry in between meals.
Sometimes I even forget that I need to not go too long before I eat my next meal or snack. Maybe that is why I am now finally after so long losing weight.
I find myself not thinking about bread, biscuits and pasta all the time as I use to. I have fixed home made biscuits for my family and never even attempted to sneak one, and those are my downfall.
My mother has noticed that her arthritis doesn't bother her as much since she has been taking it either and at 70 she feels pretty darn good.
Whatever the claims are, I know one thing, the coral calcium is helping me achieve what I want, and that is to feel good and to stay healthy. Even though I have only been taking it for about three weeks now, I definitely feel a difference.
I know from articles I have read that any cal/mag supplement will help, but knowing I have all of the added minerals in one pill just makes it easier to take every day.
