I am new member,42,FM for 7 yrs,and disabled nurse that has gone from about 150 to 215 since diagnosis.I have tried Atkins but it didnt work well since I am not crazy about much meat, and prefer veggies.Chocolate junkie too.I have read that low carb diets helped with FM.I have tried everything short of starvation and if i lose a couple of pounds they come back in a few days.My inactivity level due to fatigue and pain doesnt help either.
Have any of you compared diets such as ZOne and Sugar Busters?I dont like the way you have to be so careful figuring whhta you eat on the ZOne,and thought sugar busters would be easier to do,but do people with FM and CFS lose weight on it?I would like some ideas or recommnedations from others with FM.

Hi! I tried the zone a few years ago, and I hated it. I found it to be too regimented, and I hated weighing everything I ate. I also tried Suzanne Somers, and found it confusing. I didn't like the whole food combining thing. I have found Atkins to be the best for ME. That is the key, finding what is the best for YOU. I would suggest reading more low carb books. Also, try the "Metabolic Typing Diet" book, since you don't like meat, maybe a high meat diet is not for you. There are other options.
Just eliminating sugar and wheat might really help your fibromyalgia symptoms. Also, starving yourself won't work! Your muscles need fuel to repair. Try taking 5HTP at night. I have been taking it, and it helps me to sleep better, which in turn, helps the fibro ALOT! Good sleep is the key. Also, if you haven't , give up caffeine. Some fibro sufferers find Malic Acid helps alot with muscle pain, too.
I love chocolate, too, and I have found that an occasional Atkins bar really helps with the cravings. The carbolite chocolate bars are really good, too, but only eat a little piece at a time!! I also make chocolate mousse with cream, cocoa and a little Splenda.
Hope any of this helped, good luck and keep posting!

If you are not sure what to try, maybe just giving up a few different carbs at a time woudl be the best way for you to go. There are a lot of people out there who theorize that fibro and all the autoimmune disease came about with the advent of agriculture. Perhaps if you just started with giving up all grain products you would see a benefit in weight loss and the way you felt without having to be too stringent at first. You have to be careful and read ingredients though. They sneak in corn and wheat everywhere!
(Actually, I think this is someone's diet. Maybe that guy that is on Oprah. I don't know. I can't remember. (no surprise there))
