Hi all,
I wanted to post this to see if anything is wrong with my
diet; I'm actually almost at the end of week 4, still on
induction as I have a LOT of weight to lose.
During my first 2 weeks, I lost 15 lbs. Now, I'm at roughly 16
pounds lost, which means only 1 pound over almost 2 weeks. I
read a lot about the 3 week stall -- I realize there's a lot
of people who are experiencing the same thing-- but now I'm
worried it is extending into 4 weeks + because of my diet.
Also, I've gone from a sedentary lifestyle to rigorous aerobic
excersize 7 days a week for about 45min - 60min.
Breakfast: 2 eggs, 2 sausages (sausages have 1 carb, no sugar)
Lunch: Scoop of chicken salad on 1.5 cups lettuce, sometimes
meat or chicken in a sort of chef-salad type makeup. No carb
blue cheese dressing if it's just a plain salad. OR
Occasionally, a slice of atkins break with a few slices of
bologna or chicken and cheese.
Dinner: Cheeseburger, small salad, or chicken stir fry with
acceptable veggies.
Occasional snack (one of): Cheese, half an atkins bar, a few
slices of a hickory farms meat stick
(mmmm....)...
My salads are just a mix of iceburg and romaine -- no othe
veggies. I probably average more than 3 cups a day, more
likely 4, but it depends on the day.
Obviously I have no choice but to hang in there, but I'm
wondering if I'm doing something wrong. I take citrucel
tablets to help with fiber as well as atkins supplement #3
once a day...
Thank you! Brian

Brian,
I know this might sound strange, but you might not be eating
enough (you say you have a lot of weight to loose - that menu
looks a little skimpy) - I am a new convert to Fitday.com - I
found it amazing (a little cumbersome at first, but . .) It
really showed me how much I was eating and also how many real
carbs I was consuming.
Also, congratulations on the 16 lbs loss!!! that is a lot of
weight for 1 month - you averaged 4 lbs a week - a great
accomplishment.
Good luck

Ah the most difficult question. Well, you can eat the wrong
things screwing your metabolism and insulin up. Barring that
option we get back to caloric intake, but whether you're
eating too much or too little I can't say with the information
you provide.
That said, see below :)
> Breakfast: 2 eggs, 2 sausages (sausages have 1 carb,
> no sugar)
Sausages contain very much fat compared to almost any natural
meat. Very fatty minced meat may be 19% fat, but sausages
often run 24-30%. You _may_ be getting more energy here than
you think.
Consider eating a carrot instead if you wish to lower
caloric intake.

Your second choice is, again, a potentially very energy rich
meal. The former seems much more balanced nutrition-wise.

The question is perhaps "how much cheese". Again it's very
energy rich dieting, and you may inadvertedly be eating more
than you think. Throwing in at a few veggies may give you the
same level of satiety while lowering your caloric intake
(you'll still be eating decent amounts of fat of course).

Obviously you are not talking about the Atkins induction when
you say to eat a carrot, which is a no-no at this point.

Sounds to me like you're doing everything right. Weight loss
is never linear and you have averaged 4lbs a week which is
excellent. Stick with it, you're doing fine.

Thanks everyone for the compliments, I appreciate it! I guess
I didn't think of it in terms of averages, I more or less was
just looking at the last two weeks and was disappointed. I was
thinking, "All this excersize and no more result??"
(Obviously, excersize does have other benefits, but I'm
focused on weight loss right now.)
So I'm sticking with it... I actually considered I was eating
too little, but then, a lot of the foods are high calorie
(sausages for example), and for the most part, I eat until I'm
satisfied. I've always been used to being stuffed, but I feel
I'm eating adequately.
About the carrots: Ironically, my wife inadvertantly added one
to our chicken stir fry and I didn't realize it! It was only
one for the entire batch so I'm not overly concerned about
this one offense, but it did worry
me...
Thanks again! Brian

Weight loss is never linear...
==============================
You can say that again, Chet.
When I run my Fitday report, "Weight Loss Over Time" the graph
has a couple of pretty good sized spikes, and *lots* of jagged
teeth. However, if one were to draw a trend line across the
graph, it'd be very obvious that the overall trend has been
almost consistently downward. No complaints here.

What LC diet is this? An average carrot has 8g of carb, the
sausage, close to zero.

Most vegetables have more carbs than hard cheese. Atkins
clearly has them very limited during induction. And any LC
diet, which is what he's trying to do, is "energy rich", so I
fail to understand the point.
He should be counting carbs, not the calories, which is what
he is doing. And to top it off, he's doing great with what
he's eating, having lost an average of 4 lbs a week!

You're correct. I'm actually doing Paleo, but carrots have
_never_ halted my weight loss.

Cheese is also clearly limited during induction: 3-4
ounces daily.

I'm on the Paleo diet, meaning I eat meat, vegetables and
fruit, and pretty much in that order. During my time I've
eaten amounts of vegetables and fruit that most people here
would weep over, yet I have managed to shed 16 kg. during the
last three months - and never doing anything like Induction at
that. That is one reason I do not entirely buy into the sort
of reversed philosophy of "all carbs are evil" that some on
this group espouses.

Do you really think that calories do not count at all? If you
eat _enough_ energy to satisfy your body's need it will burn
that dietary energy before metabolizing the fat on your gut.
While you may not store any excess energy eaten, it may still
stop or severely slow your weight loss.
Can you provide _any_ information to counter that statement?

"I'm on the Paleo diet..."
I think you should make that clear when giving advice. This
particular poster asking questions was a few weeks into
Atkins low carb.
