Hi All,

I know us guys dont like to talk about it, but I'm suffering
here, and right now I really need to have a hard-on.

I looking for any other guys here who are Type 1, and have
impotence, or had impotence. More than that i want to know
how it was overcome, what meds, herbs, tonics, etc you may
have used.

I'm getting desperate and have reached the point where i'm
willing to try anything. I do have some neuropathy, thankfully
no pain, but no erections either, except for the odd one every
blue moon.

HELP!!!

Mazza Type1 & desperate

PS If you want u can reply to me direct if you dont want it
public in the group.

Aww come on. Inquiring minds wanna know :-) please post
replies.

Seriously, IMO it isn't just a male thing. No pun intended :-)
I find that my desire is gone and no feeling due to numbness.
But I also believe in some cases it is a result of
uncontrolled numbers such as I have had for a very long time.

I wish you the best in this and I hope your partner is very
supportive of you. Take care and also it doesn't hurt to ask
your doctor if something is out there that will help.

Hi Mazza, I`m t2, but I got the same problem. It`s 14 years -
no kidding - since my last erection. Since I got no partner
anymore (guess why she left) it no longer matters much. I
wopuld *not* trust any herbs, but I hear Viagra helps, but
that`s only hearsay coiz it wasn`t invented when I lost *it*.

How are your bG's?

I know some things that help men, diabetic or not, with
erection problems is to look at ahem.. nekked women. If your
bG's aren't the best you might try to get them a bit lower and
try some mens vitamins. Not that herbal crap.

dunno though, i'm a woman.. but I also experience loss of
wanting when i'm running too high.

Hi,

Maybe I shouldnt post at 3.00am local time while my brain is
abit frissed, I left out that I have already tried Viagra, &
Uprima. With only Uprima giving me lttle success in the
beginning, I've also tried acupuncture, various herbal
remedies (mainly Chinese based).

Like most things, Meds (i.e., Viagra) by itself won't produce
the desired results (penile erection) if the mind isn't in the
mood to cooperate.

Other health problems also contribute to the problem. My own
(recently DX'd T2) diabetes hasn't kept me out of the batter's
box, but a good friend feels devastated. To say this
tactfully, he was "quite the ladies man" in his earlier years.
At age 52 he had to undergo protstate surgery to remove a
cancerous tumor. Following surgery he had to redevelop his
ability to control his urine, but says when it comes to sex
that he "couldn't get it up with a crane". Nothing works.
Tried the meds, counseling, diet/exercise, topless bars, porn
movies, etc. Claims he's still able to keep the ladies happy
with cunnilingus, but says his life has really changed because
he cannot otherwise perform or achieve orgasm.

Maybe it's God's way of punishing him for a life of
infidelity ...

I hope I am not sorry for saying this. <Blush> LOL but I
knew a man at work that had an implant. That would help
right? :-) I am usually very private about this stuff but I
hate to see someone hurting. I don't know the expense but
worth checking maybe.

control that can cause ED problems.

Good post Frank. Diabetes is not the only cause of impotence
(erectile disfunction). Some hypertension meds have this
effect, for example.

Mazza, I would suggest that you do some internet research
yourself on the subject, as Frank suggests, and then get a
good doctor who deals with this condition.

If I find a good description/discussion on the net that
applies to me, I often print out a copy to take to my GP.
One can't expect them to know everything. Ask for a referral
if necessary. If your current doctor is not helpful, then
get a new doc.

My step-father has diabetes and takes Viagra. I saw the bottle
in my mom's bathroom and asked ;-)

Impotence is a darn common problem for diabetics.

Any reason why you are reluctant to talk to your doc, but are
willing to ask strangers from around the world? ;-)

This is really not a laughing matter, Have you gone to see a
urolgist about the problem, There is viagra and penile
implants that work for thousands of people. No herbs, no
tonics no spam is going to work, You need to see a medical
professional in this area. Also, erections start in the mind,.
Are you having problems that are hard to deal with.

Well to me it is easier to talk to this screen than to a
doctor face to face. People on the internet around the world
doesn't have to see my embarrassment or my blushing or perhaps
my depleted self esteem. Just me thinking as if I were a man.
:-) BTW how the heck have you been Wendy???? Good I hope

One reason is because is is sometimes hard to ask a doctor
anything - too many of us here have doctors who don't listen.
at all, and just talk, not give any chance to question, or
leaving questions to a nurse (if we are lucky).

Then there is the tendancy of some physicians to simply pay no
attention to anything not life threatning.

That is why I say to people to GET A NEW DOCTOR if thee are
ANY communications problems - and it does not matter WHY
there are communications problems, if the relationship with
your doctoe isn't working, you NEED to find a relationship
which works.

It is not just impotence - it is EVERYTHING. Have you noticed
how many people who find there way here and say "my doctor
says I have diabeteis, and I should take these pillls and come
back in three months, what does this mean?" ?

When I was first diagnosed as diabetic, the doctor I was seing
then gave virtualy no information, except "get your glood
sugar down" and when I tried to get answers from the nurse,
she said "I don't have the slightest idea". If that was how he
handled a BG of 450, I can imagine how he would have dealt
with impotence! NOW, if a doctor pulled that on me today,
despite how much I hate trying to find a doctor, I'd be out
looking before the echos stopped.

I know remember two things
1) The quack who first diagnosed me is supposed to be
practicing in Vermont - so watch out Wendy. and,

2) I DID have an impotence problem which I asked him about,
and he told me it was all in my head as he rushed out of
the room..

A month later, the infected sebaceous cyst which was causing
the trouble, and was not where where I could see it, blew up
to about the size of a grapefruit. For something "all in my
mind" it SURE was uncomfortable, I suppose that the fact I
couldn't walk was also "all in my mind"

I went to a urologist who lanced the cyst and gave me
antibiotics. If the doctor had paid any attention to me, it
would have saved me a LOT of pain, and the cost of a
urologist.

There are many causes for impotency, and diabetes is probably
the most common physical cause. Viagra works for most, but
some do not respond, or can not use it due to cardiovascular
problems. There is another treatment though, alprostadil. It
comes in two forms, a transurethral suppository, or as an
injection. Basically, you insert the suppository into the
urethra and about 10 minutes later the problem is solved. The
perenteral (sp?) form is injected by the user into the left
and right side of the base of the penis. Again, a few minutes
later, problem solved.

Viagra requires that the person be mentally stimulated due the
biochemistry involved, alprostadil does not. Alprostadil is
not for the faint of heart, it is.....uncomfortable as a
suppository, and I can not say how bad the injections are,
however, many men opt for that form. The suppository is called
Muse, not sure of the injectable.

The other possibility is an implant, however, a side effect of
implants is there is often nerve damage associated with the
implantation and can leave the patient with the ability to
perform, but, unable to obtain an orgasm.

The best course is to discuss it with your doctor, or better
yet, your urologist. Ultimately, discuss it with your
partner too.

I know, i've dun tonnes of research spoken to various docs,
tried loads of tablets, viagra, uprima, herbal things, some of
which did work briefly, sum didnt, etc...i did find that with
the docs i knew more than they did which doesnt help, but i
have now heard cialis comes out here in the UK next week, so
gonna get my doc to sort me out a few and see how i go.

Even if it does work its not a solution, i'd like to be able
to wake up with an erection of days of old :)

PS Many thanks to everyone who posted their opinions,
sugestions, etc
