Just thought I'd let you know. Two years ago, my wife was suffering from asthma and candida (yeast infection), caused by the anti-biotics she was on. Well, to make a long story short, she went on Atkins diet and followed his recommendations for treating candida.

She lost 60lbs and is at her goal weight. She is off all medications and the yeast is under control. She hasn't had an asthma attack in 2 years and her allergy symptoms have disappeared. She feels great and looks great!

Yesterday she went to the doctor for her physical yesterday and he was thrilled over her success!

Well, low and behold my wife discovered that the nurse and staff at the doctor's office are all on the Atkins diet.

Wow! Tell your wife congrats, and give her a big high five for me!I, too, am bothered with Candida. Can you be more specific as to what she took for it? It is so great to hear that one can beat that stuff!!

Thanks for posting, it gives us all renewed hope!

Wow isn't that amazing!!! Seems sometimes when we take matters into our own hands, (especially if something feels right to do), we can accomplish so much more than just following instructions given by someone that doesn't live inside our bodies! She must be one happy lady!!

IT is true that listening to our own bodies is the only way to go ......To thine own self be true. I have been sick for 17 years and every time I tried following the "Correct, Low fat way of eating I just felt horrible. Starting with hypoglycemia and then moving on to Fibromyalgia the past 5 years I just got totally fed up with Doctors telling me that everything was "normal" HOW could it possibly be normal to feel this awful. I started Low carb to lose some of the weight and found that it greatly relieves all of my Fibromyalgia problems. I started with the supplements to help me manage the pain and fatigue but this woe is so great as far as my overall well being. I am having some problems with water retention right now but I am sure that will adjust itself as well......

Your wife must be so happy!!!!!!!

I have had a fluid problem for many years, and I still take my diuretic , but have found that this diet is diutetic as it is, altho I still loose weight not being able to drink all the water suggested, I have had remarkable improvement. My ankles which used to be swollen even with the water pill, now look almost normal and do not throb! That's a big deal for me. The Dr. has always warned against salt, but I think it's the carbs that hold the most water. So it kinda follows that low carb, less fluid in the ankles. Just my uneducated opinion. Anyway I feel certain that you will stop holding fluid soon. Unless there is more water than you can drink in the recomdation of 8 or more glasses, as is my case. They claim the more water the faster the weight loss, but we can all do just what we can. Anyway I bet you are bound for an improvement!! Good luck.

Although Atkins is mostly known for his weight-loss plan, he has had a lot of success treating patients for all kinds of ailments. He used to be on the radio out of New York 4 days a week, and he would only talk about weight loss about once every week or two - he mostly spoke about everything else, such as arthritis, depression, cancer, etc... He can be a little ornery at times, but you have to respect his independent thinking.

That is a great story....and there will be more like them I think to come...when people give Atkins a fair chance .
I understand he is very knowledgeable about treating a variety of conditions- and I think the diet can address a multitude of problems.

Your wife must be so happy...as you must be too.

I agree. You really have to respect a doctor who tries to treat health problems nutritionally, rather than with expensive drugs, most of which just mask the problem. If everyone ate healthy, and took the proper supplements, most of the drug companines would go out of business.

Just my two cents!

I am completing my fourth week on Atkins. Besides weight loss, two things have happend to me. First, my asthma has disappeared. I have not used my inhaler once. My husband notices a big difference. Also, my IBS has been greatly diminished. Wahoo! Leslie

Maybe you should start a journal so we can keep in touch with you. I just find it easier to go to the persons journal to leave little notes  Debbie
