I was wondering how long can a person stay in the induction part of the Atkins diet?

I don't think staying on induction for any length of time is HARMFUL, but its not necesarilly HELPFUL either.
The book advises you to only do a strict induction for 2 weeks, then gradually increase carbs (by 5 or so) each week until you fall out of ketosis. Ideally you want to eat as many (good) carbs as you can, while still losing weight.
Some people stay at induction levels and do fine, while it eventually causes others to stall.
There's really no clear cut answer, but I hope I was at least a little helpful!
Good luck, and keep up the great work!

I think it depends upon what plan you're following. If you're doing Atkins, you can stay on Induction until close to your goal weight if you so choose. Or, you can up the carbs by five per week for the OWL stage. Partly, it depends on how much you have to lose and how quickly you want it to happen.
I stayed on Induction level carbs for several months and then decided, on the basis of some advice received here, that I would prefer to have more carbs with a little room for tweaking in case I hit a stall.

I have just finished my first week of induction, and it was quite successful I am happy to report...11lbs lost. I found myself concerned cause for the past couple of days I dont see the scale going anywhere - however, I am aware that I should not be obsessed with the scale, and should probably take my measurements to get more accurate results. I just find the advice from Dr. A hard to take-in, that by increasing my carb intake in small increments, that it may actually press me to loose more. I suppose that is the dieting mentality taking over...less is better....just hard to change that way of thinking.
