Oh dear.
Today I read the nutritional info on a packet of sugarless chewing gum, and it said 69 carbs per 100g!!!

I know that Dr Atkins warned against chewing gum, but i *assumed* he was talking about the sugared stuff. I chew 1 packet of gum every day... another addiction, but also because i work face to face with people and i like to make sure my breath is always clean.

The packet of gum did not have a weight printed on it (that i could see!), and my kitchen scales are not sensitive enough to weigh something that light (i hope to get a new set in a couple of weeks), so i hope that someone here can advise me of the carb content of sugarless chewing gum.

I usually chew Wrigleys Extra.. the pellets; or Orbit Ice White sticks.

Thanks ....

Know what you mean about reading the carb count for chewing gum. The carbs are polyols and I'm not sure if they count as real carbs or not. However, I tend to count them as 1 carb per piece of chewing gum. I usually have the Airwaves one.

How many in a pack? Probably 5 or 6 g carbs a day, so you will not be doing that bad on the sugar free stuff, but you should count it in.

Hi IcicleWork,

I have a packet of sugar free gum in front of me and it says they are 67g per 100g. However of this 67 percent all of it is polyols, the sugar alcohols which are poorly absobed and don't cause an insulin rush.

I have a set of very sensitive scales at home (in Belarus) and I will weight some gum when I get there (I'm in England on holiday right now).

I seem to remember doing this once and 1 pillow of gum came out as less than a gram.

I think the amount of carbs is hardly worth worrying about.

Regards,

Robert
