Because of another physical problem I stopped taking my thyroid medication. After one month my hair started falling out, tons.
I'm back on my thyroid for 2 weeks but only taking a half dose until my other problem is completely worked out.

My question is this: when will my hair stop falling out? It seems like its slowed a little but I've lost a third to a half of my hair.

Nawchem,

Personally, my hair loss was the last of my thyroid related symptoms to be resolved. When I started thyroid medication, I noticed an increase in my energy level within 48 hours, and I started to notice weight changes within the first week. I did not notice any changes in my hair problem for about 3 months. The loss of hair slowed down sooner than that, but regrowth didn't really begin until 3 months post-medication.

I've been on meds for 1 1/2 years now, and all of the regrowth has caught up with my hair now - so my hair is a lot thicker than it was. It is still a lot thinner than it used to be, and I do have a lot thicker part line than I would like.

If you would like to chat with me about this in more detail, please drop me a line at thyroid~justice.com [thyroid AT justice.com] or you can catch me through my new website, still in construction, at http://diagnosis.4t.com

Hope that helps,

Margie

I don't know about whether a yeast overgrowth impacts thyroid, but I do know that my doctor told me that chronic yeast infections and IBS are two things that are connected to hypothyroidism. I am guessing that they are side-effects?

For what it's worth!
