I could work out, do the cycle, pump the barbells, feel the
burn and feel good about myself.

Now, get to the gym, worry that my aerobics are overdoing
themselves.

Then, push a weight, and can't get the word "recruitment" out
of my head.

Feel guilty using the machines, when I 'ought' to be using
free weights.

Felt like I was proving a point about a vegan diet and the
results I was getting.

Then, I added supplements, protein, and the all the stuff I've
learned. I did better before.

I know, it probably had to do with just timing, but it was
more fun before, and I got better results.

Better "recruitment" than "Narcissistic Personality Disorder"
or "fucktard"

I, for one, made zero gains before this newsgroup. Reading it,
as well as some other reliable Internet sources, have made a
DRAMATIC difference.

Without this newsgroup, I'd probably weigh 150 doing 3*10 on a
pec deck in some lonely, ridiculous "health club" right now...

He says that he got better results and had more fun when
he was eating a pussy vegan diet and using wimpy
exercise machines.

"Fucktard" is a lot funner to say, though.

the point is, to put it simply - paralysis by analysis.

most of this shite is irrelevant for the average trainee. a
hard workout program with some good compound exercises, a
reasonable diet, and enough rest is all one really has to
think about.

the rest is fluff. it's interesting, but it's fluff - for the
average trainee, certainly

Actually, I was trying to be funny. Making fun of both myself
and this newsgroups. It occurred to me when i was at the gym,
and trying to determine the right amount of weight to my
muscles to recruit.

I'm sure my plateaus were more a result of just that, I
improved my body to what was natural for it to sustain, and
further gains are long and slow.

You can learn a lot here....

And a vegetarian diet isn't pussy. And machines aren't pussy.
I like to combine

free weights and machines. A pull-ups and dips. Ok, I've added
weighted dips and weighted chins.

Yep, vegans and meat don't mix well.

Well you have to be very careful if you decide it is,
otherwise you might be able to mix with well vegans

Indeed. Just a convenient "excuse" for us all to get together
and shoot the shit. Hence the "misc" portion of

The information overload one gets from newsgroups, E-zines,
etc. can be overwhelming, and can cause one to lose sight of
the basics while jumping from exercise to exercise, routine to
routine, and hypertrophy theory to hypertrophy theory. Before
I knew what I was doing, I had few options, and I made great
progress. However, after reading MFW, ASW, and a number of
weightlifting rags online, I learned I was doing everything
"wrong" and was presented with superior workouts from Staley,
Poliquin, Starr, Jones, Mentzer, Butt, Haycock, and the
Strength Coach of the Week over at t-mag.com.

I learned I had to rid myself of isolation exercises, employ
isolation exercises sparingly, use isolation exercises in
super/giant sets, and use lots of isolation exercises. I
learned I had to increase my TUT to 4020, decrease it to 2111,
and ignore TUT. I learned I needed to only use the big, basic
exercises, ignore the big, basic exercises because they're
overdone, do every exercise differently than I normally do,
change exercises frequently, keep the same exercises but
change loading parameters, change my workout every 6 sessions,
change it every 4 weeks, change it every 6 weeks, and
periodize it.

So, I gave up what was working and tried every new Latest and
Greatest (TM) routine or exercise theory, and never kept with
anything (except squats - no author had a problem with me
doing squats) long enough to make progress. After a year, I
went back to what worked for lifters for decades before any of
this conflicting information appeared, but I tailored my
routine to incorporate what I believe are the most grounded
and time-tested theories. So, I'm back to just doing squats,
BP, SLDL, BOR, etc., but at least I know *why* I'm doing them,
and *how* I should be doing them. :)

If you're vegan, you might want to take a look at a
vegan-specific group
(e.g., http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VeganWeightlifting/) in
addition to MFW and ASW. The nutritional information here
is oriented toward omnis.

Anyway - you might want to just stick with what works, but
keep one eye on the group. It's a good way to stay up-to-date,
even if you aren't going to incorporate every new thing into
your routine.

HTH.

Um. Watson, exactly how many "double chins" do you have?

At least, I think that is what all of the ")" mean.

How do you count double chins? Do you count your chin chin or
not? Do you only count pairs of double chins or each
individual chin?

I think that an important thing to remember is that all of the
things above (and more) were probably used at one time or
another to help someone break through a plateau. All the
different information might seem contradictory (and IS
contradictory) but it's because different people had different
needs at different times. The trick is figuring out what you
need to work on and then working on it.

If you're happy with what you're doing and you're getting
obvious gains, then keep doing it.

But if you're not happy with what you're doing and you're not
getting obvious gains or if you feel that it's time to do
something else, then do something else. Try to figure out why
you're not happy and then either find a routine that you think
you'll be happy with or create your own routine with all the
information that's available.

Introducing a point of pedantry, it is only possible to have
one chin, one double chin and any further additions would thus
be triple, quadruple etc.

A double chin is a good sign of prosperity perhaps, while any
glutinous additions might be viewed as grossly prosperous!

They must be enormously difficult to shave.

None that would provide evidential proof to elaborate my
findings. My submissions are based on personal extensive
observations in gentlemen's clubs and other fleshpots of the
world, which are original , and may therefore be contrary to
my well known bent for all things plagiarist!

As it is a departure from the norm perhaps concerning existing
knowledge and current research on double chins, it is
therefore incumbent on those that may doubt my theories to
introduce their reasons, including sources of study and
methodology, to substantiate their opposition to this exciting
new scientific development.

It is important to establish where the chin (s) ceases to be
chin, and becomes either neck or chest, for the count to be
accurate. Cleft chins,
i.e. those with separations on the vertical plane as opposed
to the horizontal, have been excluded from this study.

Neckst!

No, but all of David Cronenberg's opus is available for
rental. Also other films. A really fine local video rental
store. For when you get sick of the (mostly) crap at
blockbusters.

If any of you guys live in Tucson, (lurkers, too) and you
haven't checked out Casa Video (on Speedway), you owe it to
yourself to make the trip. Their selection kicks so much butt
it's not even funny. They carry all sorts of oddities, foreign
and classic films (along with all the regular mainstream
Hollywood titles) that you will never see in Blockbuster.
We're still crying over our loss in moving to Santa Rosa.

about when he wrote "Hope I die before I get old".

They shoulda quit while they were alive....
