Hi, noticed today that there is a documentary about the Atkins diet showing next Friday (UK) evening. Should be interesting but I'm already discouraged as it states that they asked one of our well-known soap actresses, Denise Welsh, to sample the diet and feed back results. Last time I saw her on the TV she was NOT overweight, as with any diet, if the person is not overweight how do they expect to achieve any results ?
Have you had programs like this in the USA too? or is Atkins still an embarrassment.

MOST Atkins-including documentaries end up by being anti-Atkins. You'll have to look at this one to see how it plays. Many so-called 'documentaries" set out to trash Atkins as a "high fat, high protein" diet, and suggest the balanced diet as better.

Please report back on what you see in this one. The Nutrition industry in N. America has many vested interests in seeing the Food Pyramid triumph. I am always hoping for a fair hearing of Low carbing.

Will do...I'll report back next week, let you know whether this diet gets a fair hearing or not.

Hi Dawn
This Friday night, 8pm, ITV1, just before celebrity fit club....

This is what the write up says about it:

"Britain`s Most Popular Diet: A Tonight Special

One-off documentary on the Atkins Diet, the country`s most popular weight-loss programme. As claims are made about its efficacy, Coronation Street star Denise Welch tries it out, and Jonathan Maitland tracks down the diet`s creator. "

Should be interesting....

Having watched the programme earlier this evening, I have to say it was exactly as I expected - totally one-sided. No evidence was produced to back their claims - instead they focused mainly on the amount of 'fatty' meat, butter and cream that you are suppose to consume whilst following the Atkins diet. They claimed that fruit was a total no-no and that vegetable intake was minimal.

It was also quite obvious that the so-called guinea pigs who tried Atkins were not following it properly.

If anyone is interested they can go to the website given below, the emails sent after the programme are quite illuminating.

quite illuminating indeed. EVERY SINGLE comment was in favor of Atkins and berating the show for their biased account.

Well I watched it....as expected totally biased.
A great source of discussion at work this morning though.
I found the comment "who is Dr Atkins?" amusing.
I would suggest that this program was made by the food industry who just wanted to slam it.
The best bit was Dr Atkins being interviewed over breakfast. He was so layed back, answered the questions easily...he seemed very at ease with himself....I didn't know what the guy looked like before this.
Ho hum...back to work.
