sour smell

Has anyone noticed that after a being on Atkins for awhile, they develop a sour smell? :( My husband was on Atkins a couple of years ago and I noticed it then. He (and I) have been on Atkins since September 1 and I'm beginning to notice he has developed a sour smell. Can't tell if it's his breath or coming from his pores. As far, I can't tell that I have a sour odor, but he is much more strict than I am - stays as low carb as possible.

Any idea what is causing this and what can be done about it?

Can't tell if it's his breath or coming from his pores.
It sounds as though he is well and truly into ketosis and the ketones are what you are smelling. And as ketones are excreted through urine, lungs and skin you are probably smelling them from both his breath and pores.

How to avoid it? Diluting it by drinking lots and lots of water is one way. The other way is to (try to) persuade him to add some (healthy vegie) carbs so that he is no longer excreting so many carbs. Just explain to him that staying on Induction levels or lower doesn't necessarily mean he will lose weight any faster. Plenty of people lose weight very well on plans other than Atkins where they are never actually in ketosis.
