I started taking a supplement in the last week to help with my energy level at the gym. It has no mu haung (ephedra) but they do have 200mg of caffiene in each tablet (I take two). I have noticed that I am having these weird "fluttering" feelings in my chest. It doesn't hurt or anything but it feels weird and makes me suspicious of the level of caffeine. I don't normally drink anything with caffeine in it and have laid off the chocolate since I changed my WOE. Is this anything anyone else has had experience with? I figured I'd not take the tablets the rest of the week and see what happens......... Any ideas?

Jennifer -

I am not currently taking supplements (other than vitamins), so I can't answer if your symptoms are normal or not. You may want to post this question in the Nutrition & Supplements forum. I am sure someone there would be able to help you out.

Good luck! :)

Hi Jennifer,

As an ICU/CCU nurse I can tell you that caffeine can definitely trigger heart palpitations in some people. Especially in the amount you are taking. 400mg caffeine at a time is a very large dose - equivalent to about 4 or 5 cups very, very strong coffee drunk at once.

Please, do yourself a favour and stop taking it! If you have ANY more "fluttering" feelings in your chest, please seek medical attention.

could be the ephedra itself.

Heart palpitations, racing heart, risk of cerebral hemorrhage...all kinds of precautions! That stuff doesn't sound too good!

Thanks for responding! I stopped taking them this morning and have no palpatations at all! They had started within 20 minutes or so of taking them and I've been up about 3-1/2 hours now and nothing, so I'm thinking that's the problem.

Thanks so much for all the information shared. This is the greatest forum ever! It's so cool to be able to ask anything and get others' input. Have great day everyone!
