I really didn't want to ask this question because it's probably been asked many many times over- I see a few days ago someone asked something similar...but: What is it about a LC diet that makes a woman miss TOM? I'm beginning to worry. I went to the doctor on Friday for a pregnancy test- it's neg. I had the feeling it would be but didn't want to spend another weekend wondering. This is the 2nd month w/out a visit from TOM. I've been on Induction (again) since September and have lost 17 pounds- could this have something to do with it? I am so bloated :( and feeling so fat at the moment. It's not a good feeling and the concern has begun to keep me up at night.

If anyone has any information please post.
Thanks,

Chris, I don't think it's LC in particular that is effecting your TOM or lack of it. I do think it's the fat loss, however.

When fat cells shrink they release fat and water. Along with that fat and water some estrogen that is stored in the cells is also released into your system. This can upset the hormonal balance, causing irregular cycles for a while. The greater the fat loss the greater the upset - so it's more noticeable during the first few months of your new WOE.

Another possibility. Are you eating enough? I know from personal experience if my calories get too low certain biological processes don't happen. My doctor explained this to me as my body only have so many resources (food) to do certain things - the most important things. TOM is sacrificed because the body sees it as being less vital to survival. Back when this happened I also felt cold all the time and I had brittle nails - not enough fuel for everything to be taken care of properly.

The fact that you're feeling bloated makes me think TOM may be around the corner. You know that you're not pregnant, so that stress is lifted. My advice is to make sure you're getting adequate calories and protein and to forget about it for a few days. I have found that often just letting go of the stress is enough to bring about TOM.

oceangirl, another possibility is that you may be entering perimenopause, also known as premenopause."Perimenopause, or pre-menopause is a transitional stage of two to ten years before complete cessation of the menstrual period. Its average duration is six years, and can appear in women from 35 to 50 years of age. This has not been a stage of women's lives much talked about, and a woman can find herself experiencing puzzling changes, and not know why. What is actually going on is a gradual decrease of estrogen. The manifestations of perimenopause can vary." The quoted material is from the web... there are many reference websites about it. Just put perimenopause in google search engine,or whichever you prefer, and see all the sites.... 28,200 in my search.

The following are some symptoms: Menstrual cycles become shorter, longer, or unpredictable,Flow becomes heavier or lighter,Low blood sugar,Fatigue several days before menstruation,Weight gain,Decreased sex drive,Headaches - from mild to migraines with aura and visual distortions,Dry and/or itchy vulva, clitoris,Increased incidence of yeast infections .

Although your periods being messed up, COULD be attributed to your LC w/o/e, you are in the age range also where you could be experiencing premenopause. I started having it when I was in my mid-30's... and am still waiting for it to end!!

Thanks for the information Nat-

I'm happy to report that TOM is finally here, I'm not seriously bloated anymore, AND I'm cheery again....it's the little things that make all the difference- ya know?

And thank you suze_c. Gosh, I sure hope it's not early menopause  ! I like to *think* that I'm still young. :p

Tanks again,

being young at heart... as long as my inner child has something to say about it... i'll NEVER get "old" but I offer my fav. quote about gettin' old!

Age is a matter of mind.. it ONLY matters if you MIND!!

Hi. I had similiar problems as you do. What helped me was making sure I was eating 10 - 12 times my weight in calories, when I ate less, I was more apt to stall my cycle. Also my doctor told me to add carbs right before when my cycle should start, just an extra roll (basically I added 15-20 carbs for two days) and now my cycles are regular again.

I was due this weekend. I'm not bloated either but since low carbing I haven't bloated, but I'm having sugar cravings & my skin is really oily lately.. I'm 33 yrs old so i'm not that old , my mom didn't have those problems till she was in her 40's. BTW I'm on the pill, my periods are typically light & but goes on for 5 to 7 days. What could be the problem I want it to hurry & come so I won't have these cravings.

I went for a walk & then while I was out walking I got cramps so I came home & guess who decided to make an appearance, my monthly. I guess it was just a little late.
