Hello,

I am looking to purchase treadmill for home use. This will be
my first treadmill, and I am planning to spend between
$500-1000 for a treadmill. I am considering either Pro-Form
995SEL or Nordic Track EXP 1000. I have read lot of bad
reviews about Pro-Form. But I am planning to purchase extended
warrenty so I was thinking they would at least last me for
several years.

Does anyone own either of these treadmills? If so, what is
your opinion on these treadmills? Which one do you recommend?
Are there any other reliable brands within this price range?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Raj

I had a Ski master and was very pleased with it.

Do to injuries when I was 41, I "ran" all of my work outs on a
Nordic Track Cross Country ski machine (still use it for
winter training when it is just too bitter to go out) and
managed a 16:12 5K (certified)- just 36 seconds off my masters
PR. I prefer it to a tread mill.

I have the proform 995 SEL. Have had it since Jan. I love it.
Has only needed to have minor belt adjustments after a long
run. (10 miles) The deck has the adjustable flexibility. Is
fairly quiet. Runs smooth. Has 6 pre set programs, ifit
compatible. etc, etc.

I researched treadmills alot before deciding on the proform
and was concerned because it only had a 90 day warranty but I
opted not to purchase the extended warranty. Of all the ones I
tried, this was the closest to the Lifefitness gym quality
treadmills.

Good luck.

My experience with Nortic Track is this, " If you plan on
running on it, forget it." The deck will break on you. As
others have pointed out, you get what you pay for, and for a
good running treadmill, expect to spend $1,500.00 or more. I
spent about $1,200.00 on the Nortic Track 4500i, and as soon
as I wear it out with walking, I plan on buying a real
treadmill that I can run on. And you can believe that it will
never, ever be a Nortic Track again.

Are they still selling these ski machines? I had one a while
ago, and it was great. But, after many years of hard use, and
poor maintenance on my part, I decided to get rid of it. It
was in my gym, but they got rid of them too. Now, I never see
them around. To bad.

Raj, This site has some very helpful information on purchasing
a treadmill.

From personal experience, I would stay away from the Nordic
track if you intend to do any running on it. I purchased one
about three years ago and had problems with the deck cover
bubbling. The suggestions I received from their service
department was to take a needle and bust them <g> It ran great
but was so loud due to the uneven running deck.

HOLD ON! Don't buy anything yet. First off, go to
www.treadmilldoctor.com.

You will find out that Nordic Track and Pro-Form (and about 3
or 4 other brands) are made by the same manufacturer.

You may ALSO find out that you can get a BETTER treadmill
(albeit with less bells and whistles, do you REALLY need
iFit?) for the same price as a Pro-Form. Unless you buy a
REALLY expensive Pro-Form, you may be unhappy with it in a few
years. And the really expensive one you buy could be no better
than a different brand of a lesser price...

The bad news is, for less than $1000, there's not much out
there. I got a Keys and I love it. Had it for 2 years so far.
No problems yet...But they're hard to find.

I have a ProForm from several years ago ($800 model, the first
folding one I believe). Other than the kids shorting out the
motor controller by using it to launch water balloons (which
was repaired), the thing has worked well.

JR,

What Keys model did you get? From these responses, it seeems
like Nordic Track or Pro Form are not good investments. I
checked the specs on Nordic Track EXP1000 and they stated
that it has 1.5 hp continuous, and has 3 year motor, 2 year
frame, and 1 year labor warranty, which is lot better than 90
days Pro Form.

Has anyone have any suggestions about Image 12.0Q or
Horizon treadmills? Horizon has 10 year warranty on motor.
Is this reliable?

I got a Keys Pro 1000. Don't think they make them anymore. It
has performed well for me over the last 2 years, but I also
take care of it religiously. In addition, it has a 2 HP
continuous duty motor, which is NOT standard for that model.
Also, it only has (well, had) a 90 day warranty on the motor,
belt, and deck. Lifetime on the frame, though, which is steel.
The majority of lower end treadmills are aluminum frames.

It depends on what you want it for. I fully believe that if
you want a treadmill only for walking three times a week
during the winter, that a $1000 treadmill would be OK. But, of
course, your mileage (no pun intended) may vary.

See what www.treadmilldoctor.com says. You may even get him to
respond to you if you e-mail him.

Image is made by the same folks who make Pro-Form. That
doesn't mean it's bad, though. Never heard of Horizon.

www.keysfitness.com will get you a store locator, but I have
never seen one in a store. I got mine through the internet.
