I can't visit here too often as it makes me crazy to think about what I'm eating too much, ya know?
I read the GO-Diet book and started following it, although the only real difference from what I was eating before is now I'm eating yogurt and nuts.
Well, I'll be. I started losing again! I thought the nuts would make me gain! I eat about 10 whole almonds for one snack w/ 1/2 c plain yogurt and 20 pecan halves w/ the yogurt for another. Amazing.
I bought a Yogourmet yogurt maker, got my first batch 'cookin' right now.
How are you all doing weight-wise? Are you sticking to the plan? I've been reading PPLP, find it much more informative than PP was. More info on the 'whys' of our situation.
My sister has been eating LOTS of carby stuff the last few years, lots of fruit, fruit juice, now it's Slimfast. She isn't overweight, but just found out she has a cholesterol problem. :( Her last comment about it was something about 'no more cheese'. She is 'lipophobic' thinks fat is the cause of every problem. She isn't open to the truth. ooh well, what can I do?
Have a great day!

hi Amy, welcome back, even sorta heheh... this forum does have a tendency to keep one aware of their diet, huh. I have to share something my dad said... we was talking about my back, and he was saying you know if you lost some of the weight, you would not hurt as bad I think. I said dad, I have dieted, and it didn't work... he said well I tried slimfast this past winter, and I lost 6 lbs. on it... he said you should try that. I said, I did dad, I gained 7 lbs. on it... he said you must have been not doing it right...I said, actually I wrote down every thing I put into my mouth, and kept close watch on my eating... you have to figure that my system is probably really screwed up from years and years of dieting, and yours isn't... not to mention my mom's side of the family having diabetes in the genes... guess it would have been a good time to explain about insulins and such eh? I love ya dad... but :stop: telling me I must not be doing it right because it worked for you and not me... know what I mean?

oh boy do I know what you mean. Another sister of mine gets this condescending look on her face and mumbles something about portion control. At my worst, I want to smack her, in the middle I just laugh, at my best, I am soooo grateful that I have had this life experience. Are we more compassionate toward overweight people or what?! ;) There is nothing like sharing/experiencing a struggle to get you past that holier than thou ignorance.
You've probably noticed, too, that is it mostly through our struggles that we grow.
Best wishes!

Janeydi :p :D
It's a family reunion!!!!!!
Glad to hear the eats have been going well for you and that
the yogurt and nuts are tolerable. I found that if I eat raw nuts
I'm fine and happy but canned nuts rip me apart. Speaking of rip....Slimfast, tried it once and thought I was going to need a stomach transplant. That was after just one can!
This is soooo much more healthier than a fasting type diet and I believe will be far easier to maintain.
Sisters are sisters huh??? Just do what's right for you and makes you feel the best. You don't have to defend your way, they will see the results and how easy it is for you to stay with this wol
AND sometimes even have your cake and eat it too :spin:

Only ATKids do INDUCTION. I HAVE done LCing before,in my younger years so it is not new to me and SOME ppl do induction because they HAVE to... And since induction is the hardest phase of the aktins program I hardly see myself as an "AKtid" for sticking with it & then continuing on with it even after my necessary 2 weeks of it are up. Is it going good for you...this LC thing? Got any clues for getting back on track after a crash...for I am CLUELESS. Yeah the LC way of life HAS been good to me... a 14# loss in a week and 15" loss in about 10 days. I have not measured or weighed for awhile tho. Induction's been likened to bootcamp... and it's not only my choice to stay in it... it is also the choice of many on this forum who go BACK to induction after stalls and bumps in the road... so there MUST be something about it eh? Induction IS how many get back on track~ so good luck with however you choose to get back on track~

Did not mean to offend. My apologies. I will admit to not being a big atkin's diet fan, but I still did not mean to lay that on you at all. The GO Diet "induction" is a 7 day transition which includes three days of more limited choices, and four days of adding fiber, yogurt, veggies and selected fruit in order to make a healthy woe. The Drs. think we ought to be able to even eschew (sp?) supplements if we are eating truly healthy. Carb limits are 50 a day and it is a LIFE -time and -style commitment...like induction and the atkins diet, it ain't easy...but my experience is that it works and it is healthy and balanced! Those things are important to me at this point and certainly in the long run.
Hope you can accept my apologies and stay with us. I for one, enjoy a lively debate and a bazillion different veiwpoints and conversations!

Ok ok, I'll go delete my teensy little inbox. maybe if I DON"T empty it you will send me email??? hmmm?
Acorn squash...1/2 c .2 prot 14.9 carbs 2.9 fiber
Whew...12 carbs. Not a real good choice, but with just protein could make it a meal...seems to me there are better squash to choose...ahhh, butternut squash is 10.7 carbs and 2.9 fiber for 1/2 c cooked. that's much better. Mmmm sp pie...you ARE bad! My downfalls have been popcorn recently...at home or at the movies. And everyday something that just doesn't belong. I haven't been keeping track in Lifeform though so I really don't know how I am doing...should go look maybe. But not today, no time. Working this afternoon taking a group of DD to do an activity of THEIR choosing, and then youth group tonite at the UU! Too much fun. Next big outing...when I pull anchor and run (or in this case FLY) is a WEEK in San Francisco! TOOOOO EXCITING! No, I take that back...there is a Youth COnference a couple weeks before our trip...3 days with YRUU kids and THERI FOOD! Oh MY! Gotta go...hear soon. Jo

You seem like you are a fun person :) And I hope I didn't start off bad with ya~ I am not all that familiar with all the LC plans, after I lose some more weight, I plan on checking some more of them out because I do miss my veggies and fruits... but induction is tougher and I know it.. but at my weight right now, I gotta be tough! Hey, have you ever had spaghetti squash... the insides are like spaghetti strands...I like it, and is good with spaghetti sauce... lower carb of course
I got a primo recipe for a zuchinni casserole and one can't tell the zuchinni is even in there. :yum: Will have to post it.
Do you work with disabled ppl? My son, who is 22, has CP, is SMH with seizure disorder. There's a pic of him in my journal, and hubby hooked up my scanner so there'll be new ones up soon... we have a baby... will be 1 yr. old on Oct. 17th. :)
Hope this is the start of a LC friendship~

I KNEW you couldn't stay around long.....Grounded my (getting smaller) a$$.
Think I'm going to make plans to fly back to CA. Can't decide if I should wait for vacation from new job or just tell 'em I'll send 'em a post card. I need a job that travels more. I'll just have to find a way to make this job see things my way. I'll be their first blood pathogen traveling specialist.
I see from the above your starting your s-t :dazzle:
See why I'm addicted?? LOL

I AM fun! :D I read some bits and parts of your journal...wow, you are doing some great work there. I saw one place where you were somewhat concerned about not writing about food and all...I say FORGET ABOW DIT! Looks to me like you are doing the RIGHT thing for you...getting rid of the emotional poopoo while detoxing from the carbs and learning a new way of being healthy! YEA YOU SUZE!
Hey, have you ever had spaghetti squash... the insides are like spaghetti strands...I like it, and is good with spaghetti sauce... lower carb of course
I like spaghetti sqush but not with spaghetti sauce...just with butter...maybe parmesan and garlic and pepper. It is lower carb, by another two or three grams...must be the fiber that makes the strands! And I LOVE zucchini...don't wanna hide it in anything, though I know for some folks you have to cuz they don't like it...dopes. We started this summer grilling it in olive oil and fresh garlic while our grilled meat is cooking...oh my gosh...scrumptious!

I do work with dd and pd and other-ly abled folks. looking forward to seeing more of your photos. Are you primary caregiver for Brendan? Do you have assistance? My thing is recreation, and there is so much a person of any ability can learn from playing! Today I was doing a program where a small group gets together and plans an outing. Today, at the client's suggestion, we went visiting the animal shelters and the pet shop and then to McD's and to a cool natural sciences type store! it was fabulous. They learn to deal with money and make decisions and negotiate and have fun fun fun that they choose themselves. (Anbd I had a great time too!) At the end of the day one of the clients suggested that next time we meet we go bowling...so there ya go! I have worked with high to barely functioning adults and teens and it is a joy. I don't know what SMH means.
Hope this is the start of a LC friendship~
Me too...though I think I have screwed up your quote! You seem like a cool woman and like you are making positive changes for yourself! Will enjoy getting to know you!

hi there jo~ fyi SMH means Severely Multi-Handicapped.Brendan lives at home with us, us meaning hubby,KaeLyn and I. I have always had him home with me, never had him anywhere else, and yes, I am the primary caregiver, not an always easy job~ as you might well know.
Your suggestions for what you do with zuchinni sounds yummy~! I also have a recipe for a chocolate zuch. cake, oh it is to die for :yum: but needs to be converted to low carb~
I also have worked with disabled, I done my art therapy field work for college with my son's class twice, was a whole range of disabilities there too, was quite a challenge to me to come up with things that all could participate in.
Thx for the great compliments and all about how I am doing~ been through alot, when I look at it all together it kinda is wow how did I get through all that? But most of it happened one thing at a time~ most... not all~
I will attach a pic that I just scanned tonite of Bren and KaeLyn. I got some more, but they need resized... they can't be too big to be included as attachments here~
Hope all is going great for you~ *smile*

Good Evening GT and Others!
WHAZZUP!?
Ok, THAT was ridiculous.
I went to audition for a musical tonite. After reading the commitment for rehearsals and performances I deteremined it probably wasn't too good an idea to try since I have alreay a number of conflicts and WAY more interesting things to do. Guess the church choir will have to do...at least until I find something that fits into my schedule. I was going to sing GOOD MORING STARSHINE from HAIR though. Would have been good. *sigh*
The church is a Unitarian Universalist. To answer an earlier question. Liberal, open and welcoming, THINKING. It's pretty great. Small. Of course, Blaine is small. It's an unusual UU Church as most of them are upper middle class, college edumacated, academic/intellectual places and demographics. Our church was founded and continues to be rooted by Icelandic fishermen and bluecollar families of the early 20th Century. Pretty interesting. Our minister is part time, so two Sundays a month someone else speaks. Last weekend congregational members spoke on the topic "perceptions of God". Two spoke from the perspective of nature mysticism...one of those from a Buddhist slant, and one other spoke from the perspective of growing up first with a natural all encompassing God then entereing into the Christian fundamentalist realm and moving from that, through doubt and struggle, back to the god of his youth who is knocking at his door, saying come out and play. It was a great sharing and makes me head straight for my journal to think through my own spiritual adventures!
And afterwards there's always coffee and food...usually sweets and goodies, but occasionally veggies, fruit, or a nice hot and LC-friendly soup. Gotta love the way UUs eat--and always remember to bring something of your own or make other plans!~!
That's it...did my part. Hope I don't get truncated.

Hey Jo,
Sorry to hear the gig is off. I was visioning you on tour....
Need to start the Middle Age American Idol ... More of us baby boomers out there anyway.
Was at a huge natural food place last night. Asked where all the LC stuff was and in that entire wharehouse size place they only had 1 loaf of lc bread! Great deli though with delights like sushi (but wrapped with rice) :( Seaweed chips (used to eat seaweed right off the shore) 23 carbs!!! walked out with a bag of raw nuts and some carb blockers.....(my dinner, while everyone else ate mexican)
going to work, catch up with u later...

HA! Madeja look!!
Natural foods stores are for the most part STUCK in the High Carb pyramid. Do check out the yogurt though. The full fat cream on top brands are SOOOOO yummy and less carbs! Add a sweetner packet and some fresh berries or lc flavorings of your choice...MMmmmmm.
I like fresh seaweed too! Got a recipe for cheezit seaweed and seaweed chowder...Mmmmmm! Cream and no potatoes makes it lc.
Tonite I had an interview for a job. Not expecting to get it but the practice is good. Will be largely unemployed come Wednesday! Guess I better be looking for something. Oh to be independently wealthy!
Now it is nearly bedtime, I've had a not great food day and I have to go in early tomorrow. So NOT excited about this. I think I am experiencing some depression. Situational no doubt. I'll manage.
G'night All! And GT too! ;)
