Well now we haf a member from Malaysia!! Thats me!! *bows bows..curtsey and everything*:)
Low carbing isnt being practice here in this country.. I wont be surprise if I am the 1st person tryin to loose weight eating all those fatty stuffs.....thanks to the availibilty of the internet. Everything on low fat and sugar processed products is easily available..To go low carb..we just hafta choose the correct food mostly natural ( which is better i think..but a hassle when intending a quick meal... as fa me i am glad I can still grab a piece of cheese).
Talk about Atkins...low carb food supplements..and other products..its not available here. Read me thread that I posted under `Tips Stalls and Plateau*...my 3 days experience on low carb but still managed to loose 3lbs after a plataeu. I need2burn 26 lbs at least...I started low carbing 3 days ago..lolol :D

Hello, need2burn, welcome to the forum!
Wow, we are really acquiring an international membership! Even here in Canada, right next door to the US, it's hard to find low-carb 'products.' Frankly, I think this is a pretty good thing, since, as you point out, it's better to stick to the basic, natural products (in my humble opinion, at least).
How did your dinner go? I too have filled up on low-carb stuff before attending a dinner where I won't be able to eat much .... it sure makes it easier to ignore the carby stuff.
I love your accent .... it comes through even in your writing .... I'd love to hear a tape of you!
Cheers,
Rachel

Sumhow I am still figurin howta `not to' offend the host when food is served - you haf any plans?? If theres chicken or beef...maybe i will take few bites and chew slowly eh?? and tell them i am havin bad tummy tonite haha ha!!

hi Tama,
It's the middle of the night here, and I have terrible insomnia :(
Anyway my dear, I copied this Thread of messages into the Introductions forum, so more folks will get a chance to meet you. I think folks sometimes forget to scroll down the home page to visit all the other forums ... ;)

Nice to have someone from the other side of things. My best friend has been to Napal and soon going to Cambodia are you anywhere near there - I'll have to look Malaysia up on a map - Sorry geographically challenged here.
I live in the US - Oklahoma - Hot and sunny. Atkin's isn't very popular here but diet pills, anit depressants and anorexia are! I've NEVER met so many people on pills. I don't know any women here that aren't on or haven't been on an antidepressant. Crazy town - I'm originally from Pennsylvania and the people their are big eaters and love thick, heavy ethnic foods especially during all the winter months. And might I add they are more content with themselves. Very different cultures that's for sure!
Glad to have you aboard - tell us about your country each day as you post - I love learning about other cultures!

Hi, It must be hard doing the low-carbing when you are the only one around doing it. I am from England and although i am not the only one there still doesnt seem to be that much interest in it over here yet. We Brits are a little more sceptical at first, but i hope to prove them all wrong.
Anyway i have got to go as my son is off school ill and i am at his beck and call. I hope to speak to you soon.

We are stationed in Seoul South Korea and I don't think anyone here is on a low carb diet. My husband is doing well on the diet but I am having a difficult time. I think it would be easier if I were in the USA.

Hello from Toronto!
I just returned from a trip to Singapore and Malaysia and I can imagine that it is hard following the diet as Malaysian food is so amazingly good : apum balik, murtabak...ummm...ummm...ummm
What a beautiful country you live in!
Good luck on your diet.
Cheers,

Hi need2!
I just want to say that I LOVE Malaysia. We took a family vacation there a few years ago and spent a whole month. We had a WONDERFUL time and would like to go back again. We still talk about it occasionally.
I am from southern California and have lived here in Dubai for the last 13 years. I don't know of too many people that are low-carbing here. But I do know of LOTS of people that try all sorts of different ways to lose weight.
I have found that I have become quite creative in my cooking and I think that sticking to natural things are best (no preservatives or hidden stuff).

Hi Need2burn!
Apa kabar! (How are you?)
Very glad to have you here especially you are just in a neighbouring country! From Singapore here!!!
I just got the same thoughts as you in choices of foods here... and hope that you have already lost a couple of weight without touching the laksa, murtabak, roti prata, chicken rice, nasi lemak, ketupat etc etc...
I am trying hard too~~slurp!
P.S. Singapore doesnt seem to have any Atkins food products anyway~ just more of books and such~ guess still takes time for asians to accept this WOE...esp we have been allergic to rice for long long God knows ages!
***The Roti Prata still lingering in my mind, though decided to touch it less *** :p

I have been on the diet 4 days now. I have lost 6 pounds. I went on Dr. Atkins in the 70's and lost 85 pounds in 6 months. You may need to order direct from manufacturer. That is what I do for several products. Good luck!

Hi Carol,
It may be that you are doing nothing wrong, and I certainly cannot see much wrong with your food listing. (I have a slight reservation about the sweetex though).
Keto sticks are not always accurate in the early stages, and there are good reasons why some people find weight does not start falling off immediately. One is water retention. Another is exchanging fat for muscle, which weighs more and is caused by a higher protein diet.
Start a journal in the Bootcamp/Journal section, and we can keep a closer eye on things for you.
But believe me, you are doing everything right, and if you continue, the weight will come off. If you give up, it never will. Don't worry, each person reacts differently to the change of diet, it will come right in the end.

Hi Carol,
Delighted about the weight loss. Now what you need to do is to amend your statistics (click on the "profile" icon under your last post, then "Edit Profile" once you are in. Then scroll down to the "current weight" box, and put in the new weight - in pounds, not stones!)
And are you a Liver Bird? My maternal grandmother came from Liverpool, and a great friend of mine came from Southport.
Things are on the upswing now - losing weight, plenty of friendly support. You can do this.

hey, u have two now. Im in KL. Nearby KLCC infact. Nice to know someone out there is doing low carb thing too. And HELLO to the rest. Im still doing induction on Atkins. bought the book, the carb counter book (see how serious I am :-))
Anyway, Im down 14Ibs since I started it 2 weeks back. Tell ya..I still have abt 40+ Ibs to go to my ideal weight. I took supplements and started doing the exercise. Might be joining Fitness First too. Im just lazy when it comes to exercise so I need some encouragement to do it.
I share your dilemma. Malaysians are full of carbs! I managed to stay on my new way of eating by having a diffrent mindset now. I hope I am STRONG.
I have not seen rice, noodles or anything carby for 2 weeks...Im in carb rehab :-)

hi i'm malaysian and have been LCing so far so good n will always be (hope so!)
i agree that it is hard to LC in malaysia. i havent eaten many things e.g. rice, potato, white, bread or even delicious "kueh" , "apam balik", "murtabak" since god knows when.
its definitely hard to find foods/groceries tailored to LCers here - i found it IMPOSSIBLE (even tho there are some e.g protein bar its way expensive). as alternative i try to find as less carb as i could find and also organic non-processed/non-refined stuff
its good to hear from you guys. could share recommendation etc and how we all survive LCing despite all the delicious fancy high-carb & high-fat foods here. (p/s still love malaysian foods tho just don't eat as much as I'd like to!)

Go to have a response, are lauk with santan okay i.e gulai lemak telur cili api, how about ikan goreng cili, like the ones they cook at the nasi padang stalls.
The new semi low carb and low fat gardenia bread looks okay, are you trying that with the lauk.
I have bought eversweet at Guardian Masjed Jamek, but have not used it, however, i will only start atkins or at least control my carb intake on coming monday as I have loads and loads of open house starting this evening as I know my will power for this weekend will be zero.
I understand caffein is not permitted but I am a coffee addict, and decaf is not that nice, what product do you recommend, how about tea.
How about supplements which one in malaysia can I take, without raising my carbo intake. Should it be the ones which are in the form of tablets or the ones in gelatin caplets i.e like the caplets for primrose oil.
I think I can control myself during weekdays when I am at work in Bangi cos not much to eat at my office, but weekends would be a trial.
How much have you lost and over how long?
dazzlin182
Fri, Dec-03-04, 09:37
are lauk with santan okay ok i style makan pelik sikit...kalau rajin i tapau my own food dari rumah pastu heat up kat office or if not roast chicken at cold storage/isetan....
hmm usually the thing that i eat....(kalau beli dari gerai)...
- veggies...unlimited but nothing with potato e.g sayur campur, kangkung goreng, terung bakar with sambal etc
- ikan/sotong bakar
- tomyam....or other seafoods
- cooked beef/chicken/eggs...any lauk la as long as not too much minyak e.g. curry ke, masak merah ke (ambik lauk je kuah tak ambik)
- tofu...yang egg tofu japanese cam kat klcc tu pun sedap
- kadang kadang makan mee rebus atau mee kari tapi tak ambik mee dia, suruh dia letak banyak taugeh...tu je...
i dont really eat anything deep fried or with santan altho i heard coconut oil is good. sini mana nak cari coconut oil? i would like to take a tsp once in a while....
The new semi low carb and low fat gardenia bread looks okay, are you trying that with the lauk.altho i love carbs i do not eat white bread :D .......even wholewheat i think twice. but if rice lain cerita haha...okay wild rice maybe
i will only start atkins or at least control my carb intake on coming mondaythat's a good start. i never done atkins..i love his recipes though...
as I have loads and loads of open house starting this evening as I know my will power for this weekend will be zero.aku dah seminggu lebih almost everyday open house n makan luar haha...kembung (bloated) habis my perut
am a coffee addict, and decaf is not that nice, what product do you recommend, how about tea.again, if u want results, maybe follow the rules....just a suggestion. i drink green tea every now n then. luckily im not a coffee lover
How about supplements which one in malaysia can I take, without raising my carbo intake. not sure carbo in supplements hmmmm.....i dont really pay attention on how much carbo in supplements (unless protein powder). i think the usual supplements should be okay...i take all those suggested by atkins...depends laa if got $$
How much have you lost and over how long?long story short i lost 8kg in 1 month this was in 2002 (not really from lc but do cut off nasi that time)...then started exercise a bit and i was down more. early this year sort of started lc, the good carb good fat etc those sort of stuff...then down to 48. i tried a lot of eating patterns! experimenting!
these days i never exercise lol too lazy and i havent been eating well. the lightest ive been probably 44 but now im stayin between 45-47 depends on what i did that month :D
enjoy open house makan tu ingat2 le kita kat sini haha gurau
