I tried the pasta lite. It is not too bad. Not the normal texture of pasta. Alot more dense. I think in a sauce (I had mine with cheese only) and ground beef not too bad. But for the way some fake things taste it is a little higher on the scale. It does have a blander taste than regular pasta. I only bought the elbow and the spaghetti to try. The lable says a "traditional pasta taste" I guess everyone has their tastebuds.

Hi, Cyntalkalo.
I haven't heard of the Pasta Lite before. Can you provide a brand name or the place where you bought it? Do you know the ingredients or the carb count?
Thanks!

My husband and I tied the spaghetti last night for supper. I felt like I had a concrete block in my stomach. He got tremendous gas and bloating, had diahrrea all night and again today. He loves and misses spaghetti so much he tried some leftovers this afternoon to see if it really made him sick, and it really did. We had a bad experience, laid out quite a bit of money, and can't eat it.

I just tried PastaLite (from AtkinsCenter) and thought it was disgusting! I made the penne with a spicy maranara sauce and lots of parm and romano cheese. Took one bite and threw the rest away - it was that bad. The taste bore no resemblence to real pasta and the texture was like dense cardboard. And the stuff isn't cheap either. That was $10 down the drain. If anybody really wants to shell out the $$$ for this stuff I suggest buying the smallest amount possible to first see if you find it edible.

I just tried pasta light brand elbow pasta. I was so thrilled, I ran to the store to buy ragu double chedder. At last, I was going to have my long lost macaroni and cheese. I was a little perplexed at the fact that the pasta was brown but who care! it's pasta! Anyway...It sucked but time. Never had I eated such nastieness.
I did however, try a low carb bagel. I found them at a low carb store in shrewsberry newjersey. The bagels are out of this world. They are six dollars for six bagels which is expensive but I'm willing to travel an hour to the store and spend the money so that I can have my bagel with smoked samon cream cheese

I have had lots of different pastas and they've all been one bite, toss into the garbage. :Puke: They are way too gross for words. Hubby (who eats anything) hated them, too.

Hello,
I noticed that you mentioned a low-carb store in NJ. I live in Central, NJ and would be interested in the name of this store.
Thank you.

The store is called the Low Carb Conecction. It's on rt 35 in shrewsberry nj. I am not from around there so i can't give you great directions but next store to the shop is a florest. It's a white house like structure. If you pass the shadowbrook, you've gone too far.
The food is expensive but hey! anything for a muffin. The choclate chip ones are to die for!

I just bought two packages of low carb pasta from netrition. I was pretty surprised by the brown color. I guess I might as well cook it and try it anyway, but I'll keep my expectations low!

Has anyone tried ProSlim pasta? I had some tonight and it was darn good. I even whipped up an alfredo style sauce (this coming from someone who's only cooking pre-LCing was making play-doh for my daughter's class!) :) ProSlim comes in 2 sealed serving size bags per box and has 8.5 grams of carbs per serving. It set me back about $6. Is it possible my tastes have changed so dramatically?? Admittedly, I tried the Due Amici thing they call pasta and BLICK!! - anything had to be better. Tomorrow morning flaxOmeal! I'm loving this!

on the ProSlim... I prefer the pastalia... but agree on the DuAmici, NASTY STUFF!!!!!! I love the Flaxomeal granola... what a staple in my house!!!! I use it in everything, especially on low carb ice cream, YUMMY!!!!!!

Mon, Sep-23-02, 20:22
That had the pastalia brand at the nutrition shop too. I'll have to try it... if I could get down ProSlim, right?! :) I've heard good things about the FlaxOmeal granola, but it looks like something I will have to order on line. The butter pecan hot cereal makes a delish breading for chicken - even non-LCers gobble it up - its amazing how creative one gets on this WOE.

Do tell! I'm dying to hear about this! The best I get is a no sugar added creamsicle at 6g! And I thought that was the deal for an ice cream craving...

Mon, Sep-23-02, 20:52
But at my store it is $13 bucks a pop! Low carb products are SO HIGH, I try to stick with the natural stuff. The granola I use sparingly, but even so.... $10 a bag is steep. I may go for the cereal soon though!!!!
For the pasta, none of it is "good", so to speak. I still have the Keto Mac and Cheese in the pantry cuz I'm a scaredy cat!!!! But with the pasta, cook it with some olive oil and add a good sauce ( I love the Mama Thomas Pasta Sauce, only 3g Carbs per serving...) Also, most of the Alfredo sauces are low carb... then add some italian season and ground beef.... Makes a very filling meal!!!!! There is so much you can do that you pay little attention to the pasta!!!!!! Good luck and keep me posted!

Vivi621, have you tried either SEARCHing this forum for "pasta" and "amici" (there's a SEARCH button on the upper right of your screen) to see all the comments received so far ANY pasta and/or try the Reviews conversational threads that are 'stuck' at the top of this forum?
You can even pagedown this forum's main page, and at the bottom, you can see other pages of posts (they're in date order, eh?) or sort them by the subject line, where it might actually have the word "pasta" or whatever.
There are several thousand people at this sitenow :p , so the chances are that quite a few people have been talking about these things already :D I know for a fact that pasta has been a popular topic for at least a year!
Hope this helps.

I could never be desperate enough for pasta to ever eat this again! Imagine if you took a normal bowl of pasta, soaked it in soy milk, put it outside in that lovely Florida sun while you were at work, drained off the liquid upon arriving home, dunked it in candle wax and then sat down to a big bowl of it for dinner ... even your favorite LC sauce won't help it and did mention the color - yuck!! I paid almost $9 and threw the whole thing in the trash. The taste and texture are horrible. I've tried the ProSlim, and while they aren't going to be serving it at the Olive Garden anytime soon, at least it has the common decency to allow the sauce to do its work. With a strong tomato or garlic flavor it goes down pretty well. Plus, ProSlim comes in two premeasured servings. I ususally can't even finish the one. But, as Island Girl said, there are a bunch of threads on Pasta, just wanted to save you some green and give you my 2 cents on this awful product!! ;)

I've run across the Due Amici Pasta Lite Low Carb Pasta and bought the elbow macaroni and the spirals. I thought we'd give it a try since we found it at a store called Big Lots and it was only $.79 for 16 oz!
Super price, so I was hoping for a better review, but I'll try it anyway.
It's made out of Defatted soy flour, pasteurized egg white, durum wheat semolina, gum gluten, isolated soy proteins.

Well... we tried it and though it's not super, it's definately a welcome change.
We made macaroni and cheese with it...
4 oz pasta (before cooking/draining)
1/2 stick butter
1/4 c. cheddar cheese
1/4 c. moz. cheese
2 slices American cheese
We might make some pesto for it soon.
It actually has quite a bit of protein and may be able to be used for a meal.
Definately worth $.79 for 16 oz.

Well, I really enjoy the Pastalia brand of pasta. I have spaghetti once a week with this, with either a yummy red sauce or alfredo. Last week I used sausage and beef in my sauce, and lots of cheese... the pasta was very similar to whole wheat pasta. no foul smell when cooking it or eating it. To me it is by far the best out there. 7g of carbs per 2 oz serving.

I just got back from visiting my parents in the Nashville, Tennessee, area. While there, my mom and ran by the grocery store for her to pick up a few things. I looked around and, lo and behold, I found a product new to me.
Due Amici Pasta Lite Low Carb Pasta
Made in Italy
80% less carbs than regular pasta
70% more dietary fiber than regular pasta
70% higher in iron than regular pasta
Ingredients:
Defatted soy flour, pasturized egg white, durum wheat semolina, gum gluetn, isolated soy proteins.
Service Size 3/4 cup dry
Calories 160
Total Carbohydrates 10 g
Sugars 3 g
Dietary Fiber 7g
Protein 28g
Total Fat 1g
On the package it also says: "Dietary fiber redues fat and carbohydrate absorption by the body, is not digested and does not produce calories."
The H.G. Hill chain of grocery stores were the stores carrying this product and I made sure to let the management know how pleased I was to find this and that I would be visiting their store everytime I go to Tennessee.
I bought 2 of the 16 oz. packages. I don't remember if they cost $3.99 or $4.99 each. The color of the pasta is not creamy white like I am accustomed to seeing. It looks more like a vegetable pasta....maybe the color of tomato pasta. There were several shapes of pasta. I got the penne rigate shape but I remember seeing 3 or 4 other shapes. There were no spaghetti noodles though.
I haven't had a chance to try the pasta yet since I just got home not long ago and I have a Halloween party to go to tonight so I won't be cooking. I will be making a pasta dish tomorrow though and will post the results.
Maybe this information will help someone who is in the Nashville area or who has a H.G. Hill grocery store nearby. I'm just tickled pink to see these products start to arrive in the stores!

We get that pasta at our local grocery store too. It is firmer than "regular" pasta and does taste slightly different - so don't epect to taste exactly the same! Still, it is a good variety for the meal plans.
We get this marinara sauce from a small local grocery store - the sauce is a brand called "Gia Russa" no added sugars and all natural. I do believe it is the best sauce I've ever tasted!

Sat, Oct-26-02, 15:14
I've never heard of that brand of marinara sauce.
I figured the pasta would have to taste differently since it uses soy but I'm hoping that with a good sauce and maybe some meatballs and loaded with parmesan and mozzarella that it will be "passable". LOL It's been so long since I've had pasta that I'm really looking forward to it.

Hi, guys.
Note the series of posts "Pasta: Due Amici, PastaLite ... " etc., further down this Products forum page from earlier this month.
There's a lot of reviews and tips in there (for instance, I think I remember that most of these pastas have to be cooked longer than they say on the label) that might interest you.

We tried this brand of pasta. Like anything everyone has different taste buds. We did not care for it. I tried preparing it several ways and just couldn't get past the texture and soy taste. I loved pasta and was very disappointed. Maybe they will keep tweeking the formula and come up with a better taste.

I have never tried a low carb pasta substitute - have heard that KETO's old elbow macaroni and others were not so good. But I read on another board some pretty rave reviews of KETO's new spaghetti product. ...(looks like spaghetti in the same kind of box)
Anybody tried it? I understand some online stores are sold out due to so many requests.

My wife and I live in Ohio, and we were in a Big Lots store in Washington Court House (where I work). As she was looking around, she noticed the store had two low carb pasta selections: spaghetti and rigatoni.
She got them for 79 cents each (one-pound packages). The brand is Duo Amici. It is made of defatted soy flour, duram wheat semolina, gum gluten and isolated soy proteins.
Carbs: 10g per 2 oz., but it has 7g dietary fiber, so it has an ECC of 3g.
If any of you have a Big Lots you might want to see if they also are carrying the pasta. For those of you not familiar with the store, it features closeout items that they purchased from other stores (I assume that were going out of business).
It has been my experience that not all Big Lot stores carry the same items.
We just got home and have not cooked it yet, so I don't know how it tastes. I will share that research at a later date.

As I learn more, you will have less work to do on my posts.
My wife and I had the Due Amici pasta, and it said to cook 10 minutes. So, I like al dente, I'll cook six minutes. Well, I should have cooked at least 10.
The consistency of the pasta (which was brown in color) was somewhat rubbery, but it did not have a bad taste. In fact, it really did not have much of a taste.
We were eating it as a side dish to our top sirloin, and it was just not cutting it (no pun intended). So, I tossed in a few strips of flank steak that I had cooked previously into the spaghetti, and it was not that bad.
I think as long as the pasta is part of casserole-type dish, it is OK. I think it would be good for a chicken alfredo dish with broccoli.

That was my experience with Di Amici pasta as well, just pretty darn hard. We sell one called Pastalia which sells very well and the customers like it. The only difference I've noted in pasta's with soy in them is they tend to have a bit of a crumbly texture right at the end of chewing them, not bad just different that regular duram wheat pasta to my tastes anyway.

I have been using whole wheat pasta until I saw how high the carbs were. I bought the Atkins brand of pasta and cooked it al-dente. One bite and I spit it out  I threw the whole pound away. I quickly cooked up the whole wheat and adjusted my carbs the rest of the week to make up for it.
It was crumbly but I could have lived with that if the taste were not so bad.

Hi Viv - I have tried that pasta - I bought a ton of it because we have Job Lot stores where I live, they specialize in (among other things) discontinued items. I tried to check out the pasta on-line, and found out that it has been discontinued. But I have a ton of it! The first time I tried it, I had 3 different sauces - red, pesto, and just olive oil with garlic. Couldn't handle it. So I'm using it as a breakfast cereal instead. I break it up into really small pieces before cooking it, then have it with small amounts of LC pancake syrup, butter and heavy cream. Mangia!

Just tried the Pastalia pasta for the first time last night. I bought the tomato basil fettucine. It was excellent and cooked in 10 minutes. If you cook it much longer this brand starts to get soft and I like it al dente. Anyway, I would highly recommend it -- no nasty soy taste.

Hey Flutterby, unfortunately, I can't recommend any LC pasta brands as I'm too cheap for my own good and haven't tried any (yet) ! :D I'm loving spaghetti squash (especially with butter and parmesan cheese, yummy!) or eggplant in place of pasta in a lasagna.
I would be interested to learn of other's opinions on LC pasta brands (so I don't REALLY waste money when I get around to buying some!)

Flutterby, I've only tried two LC pastas: Darielle rigatoni or penne and Keto spaghetti. Whatever I cook up has to pass muster w/my non-LCing husband. The Darielle pasta? NEVER AGAIN! What an LC fiasco. It had a very bizarre, chewy texture to it. Everything I added to it was fine, the sausage, the pesto sauce, the veggies. The Keto spaghetti? I'm on my second box (first purchased after reading numerous positive reviews here). My DH thought it tasted like whole wheat pasta.
I "heard" the Keto shaped-pastas were not very good though.

I also thought YUCK with the Keto spaghetti and was really disappointed because it got great reviews. I had a lot left over, so put it in a container with the leftover sauce and stuck it in the frig. Two days later I decided I would try a little for a snack (I can't stand to let anything go to waste). I was surprised that this time it tasted just like regular whole wheat pasta. I mentioned it to DH and he said he has some leftover the day before and thought the same thing. I have been told that many of the LC products need to "rest" to become edible. I now make the spaghetti a day head and then reheat for dinner the next night. MUCH BETTER! :D

For even lower carbs than spaghetti squash ... ZUCCHINI makes a great pasta substitute.
Peel it, then use your vegetable peeler to pare off thin noodle-like strips lengthwise. Stop when you get to the seedy core, which can be discarded. Steam or sauté in a little olive oil ... et voilà .. noodles.
A whole cup of cooked zucchini slices has only 7.07g carbs / 2.52g fiber = 4.55g net carbs.

hi Ruth,
I generally steam the zuke strips, and yes, a few strips fall apart, but nothing major. Perhaps it's a matter of doneness? To tell the truth, I haven't sautéed them before, but I've seen that method suggested in some recipes .
Also, maybe if the zuke is a large one, those tend to be pulpier and more prone to disintegrating when cooked. Smaller, "younger" zukes are firmer and hardly any seeds, so maybe it would be best to choose only smaller squash to make "noodles".

I am so glad to have found this thread. I had looked high and low for the Due Amici pasta, now I'm glad I didn't find it!
I use zucchini as a pasta substitute, but instead of using a potato peeler, I shred it with the large hole side of a hand held grater. Blot it dry on paper towels, then quickly saute in a TB of olive oil over high heat (no more than 2-3 minutes) This is good with butter and parmesan and sensational with a thick meat sauce.
I have also thrown in a handful of Keto thin spaghetti to beef it up. I like spaghetti squash, but it can be a pain to cook one and they are so large.
The keto spaghetti is all right but not in any way like the real pasta we know and love. You just have to get used to it. I do question why they have to charge so much for an 8 oz box.

this pasta is amazing, per 2 oz (3/4 cup dry) it has 160 calories, 1 gm fat, 18 carbs, 8 gm fiber for 10 net carbs per serving.
Taste? Hard to describe but not "al dente" and solid like a regular ziti. I did put 4 oz of hunts tomato sauce. It still tasted funny on my tongue, kind of like it was going to melt away. Then I added some spices, a handful of shredded cheddar (didn't have mozzarella), and was so excited to find some grated romano in the back of my fridge!
When the pasta was all dressed up and placed on my plate next to a small chicken breast, I was in heaven, it tasted pretty good! Probably wouldn't be that great with just butter.
I would make it again!

I tried the Due Amici pasta lite today with butter and parmesan and it was real good. Too bad it is now discontinued.

Has anyone tried Bella Vita lc pasta? I have a box that's been sitting in the cupboard for a month- I'm afraid to get my mouth watering only to be disappointed!

Tried it- put a couple of handfuls in with chicken, alfredo sauce, and mixed veggies. I didn't want to make the dish pasta-based since I was afraid to be disappointed. It actually wasn't bad. Not very flavorful, but the texture wasn't bad like some of the reviews I read in the other threads. It's also "inexpensive"- I bought it at Meijer's for less than $3 for 12 oz.

I loooove the Darielle elbow pasta! Its cheap, I can get it locally, and I love it with butter and parmesan. I tried it with Alfredo, and a double cheddar sauce and didnt like it at all. Some tomato sauce isnt bad either but I like it with the cheese and butter best. Plus you get TONS for only a few carbs. The serving size it 3/4 C. DRY, I can only eat 1/2 C. DRY. Very filling. I havent tried any other pasta I like the Darielle, only $2.99 at my health store, and I found it at Albertsons 2/$5. Whoohoo! I wouldnt mind trying a spaghetti type soon though...

is it really the "best" tasting LC pasta? I've had darielle and keto, didn't think they were too great.

I just had the Bella Vita LC elbows tonight for dinner. Added cheese, cream and butter to make sauce. Out of a 10 I would give it a 7. But tonight, our first really chilly evening (35) some Mac & cheese and hamburger steak HIT THE SPOT!! I'll eat it again..but not very often, I'm to stingy with my carbs to spend 10 on elbows, tho that is for 1/2 cup dry and it was a large serving, but I ate every bite

I have tried Keto Spaghetti. Of course the texture is a little different from regular pasta and the taste a little bland, but I have found that using the pasta in a baked spaghetti dish seems to make the sauce penetrate the pasta a bit, therefore cutting down the bland taste. :dazzle:

We had the LC CarbXtract Fettuccine last night & really enjoyed it. I'm starting a low carb distribution business here in Oklahoma and through doing research & setting up suppliers got some CarbXtract samples, had read it was better to cook the pasta a bit longer & have to agree. Had purchased a pkg by Simply Organic to make the fettuccine sauce and added some small chicken pieces to it as well. Hubs noted that the texture of the noodles was different, but still enjoyed his dinner. We also had the LC CarbXtract Wheat bread and it was quite tasty as well. Had the Adio Carbs Tortillas (plain ones) the other night stuffed with cooked hamburger & onion, with shredded cheddar cheese, I added a dash of Ranch dressing to mine (1 carb tsp) and found it delicious and filling. Love being able to read the thoughts about different products on these forums. Happy LC Thanksgiving! V

I really like the Bella Vita pasta. It's a real treat when I make it. Everyone who has tried it when I make it likes it. I got some Mario Batali sauce to go with it, it was fabulous! Also made some macaroni & cheese out of it. Good stuff.

The product is fairly new, and I couldn't find a site to purchase it at on a quick Yahoo search, but keep an eye out for CarbFit pasta, more info here:

I bought a box at my local health/whole foods store, only $3.19 for an 8 oz box. A little bit darker brown than regular spaghetti, and the texture is a bit different, but when you add sauce to it, it was as good as regular spaghetti to me. It's a little high on the carb count at 9g/2oz serving, but for an occasional treat it's worth it to me.
A great dish is using a LC marinara sauce, add a container of heavy whipping cream to make a cream sauce, and add shrimp to the sauce. Deeeeeelish!! :)

Since my last post, I've tried Dreamfields. Unbelievably good. Best I've had, tastes like the real thing. It is, with a fiber coating.

i've got to go with this stuff, it tastes surprisingly like spaghetti. i served it to my family and nobody noticed it was low carb...that certainly indicates it's pretty good to me!
