I was wondering if someone can tell me about the effects of caffeine on low carb dieting?

I am hearing so much about this and was wondering if caffeine does indeed cause weight gain?

Caffiene can have the following effects on the body:

1) Trigger's insulin release which will cause you to drop out of fat burning mode. Where there is insulin there is no fat burning.

2) Causes dehydration. The effect of this is the body will hang on to water because of the dehydrating effects of caffiene on the system.

3) It can cause sugar cravings. (May or may not be connected to 1) above.)

4) It can increase metabolism. Confused yet? :)

If you think you can switch over to decaf products fairly painlessly, it's probably best to do so. OTOH, if that would stress you out and make it more likely that you'll give up, you may as well keep it. It's a YMMV thing - people react differently to it. HTH. :)
