Hello!
I've been making great gains in my weight training for the last month.. after being off any training for 5 weeks because of travel etc, and losing strength and gaining inches.
Now I am going to Germany for three weeks and am afraid I will be back to less than zero again. I expect it will be nearly impossible to eat strictly low carb because we are staying at someone's house. My mother in law who cooks food fit for heaven and is very hurt if you don't eat it. I have access to dumbells and will probably be doing a fair amount of heavy duty hiking.

Does anyone think I can at least maintain by doing a less intense weight training schedule? My cardio will have to go way up to compensate for more carbs, right?

Any travellers have some tips on how to keep from turning into a blob like I do every vacation over a week long?

If you are going for 3 weeks is there the possibility that you could join a local gym there?

no, because it's like 1 week at the mum's house, 3 days at the friend's, two days at the boss's, 3 days in the mountains, 3 days in Switzerland etc.
I do have access to dumbells though.

Thanks for the response,
Meg

Tough life, huh... ;)

I'd not worry about it too much. I've never been able to diet on vacations, but most times I'd actually get involved in enough walking/hiking/etc activities that it weren't a problem. You said you're doing a lot of hiking - see if that works.

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone returning from Europe and complaining that they've gained weight. Going the opposite way, on the other hand...

lol, every time we go there we gain weight. I'm better now though (husband is a diff story). It used to be that every time we were not completely stuffed to the point of not being able to swallow any more, we would eat more. the difference being I would feel guilty as hell, and my husband is just one of those skinny guys who stays skinny no matter what he eats. German food is just good :)

Take care,
Meg
