I am trying to keep better track of my calorie/fat intake and was curious if there was a significant calorie/fat difference between microwaving vs frying bacon. I usually mircrowave it until crispy and let the paper towel absorb the grease.

I checked fitday.com, but couldnt find much.

nope, it's the same (so far as I know!). And so much easier to microwave it!

I agree, as long as you aren't using one of those microwave bacon cookers that drains all the fat away and dries your bacon out. Bleh!! :)

I've never tried this. Is there some special technique? How long do you nuke it for?

the packages suggest about 1 minute per slice. I find that I get a good case of charred if I do that, so I tend to do about 6-7 minutes for 10 slices. less for fewer. And thinner sliced takes much less time. Basically, I just used the minute per slice guideline to start with and then adjusted my cooking times according to my tastes and how many slices there are.

So...you just put the slices on a plate and cover them with paper towel? Do you put a paper towel on the bottom of the plate first too? More than one paper towel?

I usually just lay down 3 sheets on the bottom. it's suggested that one gets put on top, too, but that's probably to save your microwave from little grease spatters! I never put one on top, anyway!

well I guess I am wierd, but I like my bacon dry. cripsy. and almost burnt. I 3-4 pieces of paper towel on the bottom and a few on top, and usually the grease is absorbed, making it crispy. It is nice for salad topping.

Not weird... just different from me. ;) I've always liked mine a tad on the limp side.

I think my fear of dry bacon stems back from all of my low-fat dieting and trying to sponge out as much of the fat as I could out of guilt that I was even eating bacon.

Isn't it nice to know we don't have to think that way anymore??

:p

Do you have a Foreman Grill? I cook my bacon on the grill and its just perfect. Cook both sides at same time and gets nice and crunchy but not dry. REally easy to do.
