Hi, I was wondering about the best kind of multivitamins to be taking, those with low sugar--if anyone has some favorite brands that they are using.

Also--can I continue to drink red wine? I am guessing probably not which is why I have been abstaining since I started this program 3 days ago.

I am in the process of buying the Atkins book and the ketosis strips. Waitng for my paycheck tomorrow.

Any newcomer advice would be welcome and greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

Hi,

Read the book first, or at least the first part of the Atkins book. It's a great resource. If you've been over weight for some time and know how hard it is to lose the high-carb, low fat way, you'll find the book an inspiration that answers all your questions. I know I did. It was the first thing that made sense to me.

Atkins also talks about alcohol, I think he does mention being able to have some wine. But you should abstain from all alcolhol for the first two weeks while getting into ketosis.

I'm currently using the Atkins LC WOL, and it has worked great.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I will be getting the book this evening. So, I should avoid all alcohol while my body goes into Ketosis.

Another question:

What about the bad breath I have heard about? Are there ways to remedy that?

That's part of ketosis...it's the fat burning...

Drink lots of water. Your body getts rid of the ketones through your urine, but if you aren't drinking enough water it releases them through your breath, so drink that water, then drink some more. You'll be running to the bathroom frequently at first but your body will adjust. Also, you should eliminate or at least limit the amount of caffeine you are having in the first two weeks. The caffeine stimulates the insulin. But you'll find out all about that tonight when you read the book.

Also, you can get sf breath mints, there are many types available but most have aspertame, in case you don't want to be using aspertame (Dr.Atkins doesn't recommend it)
