lol... I was watching tv and they had a commercial on where two people get stuck on an escalator... Funny how they think their stuck!
Armymom, how long have you been doing Atkins? Are you finding a lot of low-carb foods in Fredericton?

I can tell you that there's not much to choose from in Moncton, so I mainly stick to the "real" food. I eat mostly salads and protein, with an omelet here and there. I would like to get my hands on some Thick N Thin/Not Starch, but I don't feel comfortable ordering from the internet. Besides, the shipping costs would kill me! I did pick up some Xanthan Gum last night, but I', a little at a loss on how to use it.

What about the GNC? I know that when I was in Saint John there was a lot of Atkins stuff there. For me there is essentially zero in Edmundston. I can get a few things here and there... I look in the pharmacy corner of the local Wal-mart and Zellers. Luckily, I can go over to Madawaska Maine and pick up a couple of Low-carb things like ice-cream... I wasn't impressed by the low-carb chocolate fudge pop... Ick.
Well, it's lunch time for me... a nice salad is waiting.

I've checked out the GNC, but they're gotten rid of all of their low carb products, just like the grocery stores did... ;(

Not for too long. I was toying with the idea before Christmas. What put me on the bandwagon, so to speak, was the probability of being put on intermuscular injections for a recent diagnosis that I've been undergoing testing for over the last 5 months. I asked the neurologist if there was anything else I can do before I resort to those means to avoid another relapse. He informed me that some people have good success to prolong relapse periods by following some diets that would normally be suggested to those with diabetes. Even though I'm not diabetic I researched in to it. And there is no way i'm going to be measuring and counting my intake - I have a difficult enough time getting my son's snack bag ready for daycare let alone fussing over myself.
I hadn't initially intended to use it for weight loss purposes; just a guide line to follow for what I should and shouldn't eat..
well, low and behold..I went from 252 just before Christmas (*cough* baby weight *cough*) and I just did a swan dive on to the scale this week and i'm 230..the initial pounds that came off though I don't count as part of my focus though because I was yo-yo-ing a good 5 pounds for the last few months prior to starting.
As far as finding low carb foods in the area....I'm not having much luck..

Congrats Armymom! That is fabulous! I hope that you can keep your illness at bay via diet.
Did anyone check at the superstore? They did have a President's Choice low-carb ketchup last year. And I have seen a couple of low-carb frozen meals... only 2 or 3...
In Moncton they may have this, look for Montignac products. They are another form of low-carb dieting... They do use fructose so for atkins is a no-no, but they do have mayonnaise and salad dressings and chocolate bars. Montignac is a Québec version of lc dieting from what I can see. Maybe that's why it is available here, being so close to Quebec, and having some of the largest grocery stores in the entire area (NB, ME, QC)

I haven't seen those products around here, probably too far from Quebec.

I was at the grocery store yesterday... I found some swanson low-carb frozen dinners... tried the turkey medallions... blech. They only had a few things. I really had to look for them to find them. But I did find some low-carb vinegrettes from Kraft. Creamy Ceasar and Roasted Pepper vinegrettes were both under 2g of carbs per tablespoon. Both had sugar as an ingredient though. Another thing I found was from Sobey's (Our Compliment's brand...) Flame roasted Red Pepper Tapenade. 1g of carbs per tablespoon. Haven't tried it yet, but certainly looks yummy. I'd add it to mayonnaise or tomato sauce... It's not easy, but reading the labels is about the only way we'll find it, and then we need to put our dollars where we need to so that we'll have the products we need and like.

Have you tried Renee's Caesar dressing?? I find it much better than Kraft....but that's just my 2 cents worth.

I know. But when we're looking for low-carb, I just thought I'd let you know what I found. I pretty much make everything for myself - even Caesar dressing.
It's a really busy day for me today. I'll have to watch myself so that I don't cheat.

I've been doing pretty good in the cheat department, although I did have regular cheesecake over the weekend. And man was it good!!

Ok, I think I'm going to have to do a modified lc thing... I have to taste everything that I do in class... I'll also have to pick up the exercise.
Quick note, that Pepper tapenade that I got? YUMMY! :D Just a tablespoon gave so much taste to my sauce (a tomato sauce)... Certainly on the buy again list, and definately on a where can I use this product? list... :D

I'm in Fredericton, been doing the low carb for about a year and a half now. It has been hard to find "specialty" items here. I have used Internet shopping, but find even those sources are becoming rarer. Mostly concentrate on cooking from scratch and skipping the 'replacement' things. We have some favourites that we make at home (highly recommend Karen's Low Carb Gourmet cookbook). I am a mature student, attending UNB so don't always have time to do everything, so we cook extra and freeze for easier meals on some days or just have extras for lunches and breakfasts the next day.

I live between Boiestown and Doaktown, (McNamee)... I live about 45 minutes from Fredericton.
I have started doing low-carb for around two and a half weeks now, and have off 9 1/2 pounds...
I have done this around 4 years ago and took off around 30 pounds in a couple of months.. But unfortunately gained it all back after I had my hysterectomy.
This time I want to do it for good... :agree:
Would love to hear from others in the surrounding areas trying low carb...
