Y'know, I've started (and participated in starting) a few
newsgroups, and there is a way to shut Mikeee Roose the fuck
up here, thus saving untold people from his bad advice, and
his just plain useless nastiness. I hereby move that we
re-charter both misc.fitness.misc and misc.fitness.aerobic as
"moderated", with rotating moderators chosen from group
members who, like Denise, (and totally unlike jerkoff Roose)
actually have a clue. Mikee will then have to stop acting like
a complete asshole (which I doubt he's capable of, since I
don't think it's an act), or he simply will vanish! What a
refreshing thought!

I will post the mods as soon as I have seen enough commentary
to the positive on these newsroups, and will go to CFV as soon
as it looks like we can get it passed. Anybody else want to
see an end to this Roose dickhead?

I'm all for it, if only for this particular reason. But good
luck finding anyone who'd take the job of moderator.

This used to be quite a civilized, informational newsgroup
where strong disagreements could and did take place with no
juvenile name-calling and no moderation necessary. It's sad to
see how much Roose has dragged it down and altered the
signal-to-noise ratio.

Another effective method is just ignore him. Don't waste
your time with him. Everytime the idiot posts anything, have
a canned response that you can cut-and-paste from a text
document. The response should be short and thoroughly
discredit anything he says. DO NOT respond in any other way
- especially if he attacks you personally. He is one of
those losers that likes to argue for the sake of arguing.
There isn't a single person in the misc.fitness.* heirarchy
that believes anything he says. He feeds off of getting
under your skin.

A lot of people don't like moderated groups because only one
or two people decide what gets posted. Many of these type of
groups dry up once they become moderated.

Roose would be ecstatic were two ngs to go moderated just to
get rid of him.

People new to this ng almost instantaneously cotton to Roose.
So, what is the actual harm in his postings? Do what you want
with him: killfile him, ignore him, trash him, or pretend he
is serious about the points he raises. WHO CARES?

Anyone so thin-skinned as to be unable to deal with Roose
comfortably by that trait alone disqualifies himself or
herself as an objective moderator. If Roose upsets you so
much, then many other matters will also unnecessarily ruffle
your feathers.

I vote NO to moderation.

Historically, newsgroups that I have seen become moderated
in order to combat a particular troll or two have withered
and died. The problem is in the logistics of the moderating
process: the moderator(s) get swamped with having to filter
all posts, posts suffer a latency, moderators start playing
God, lose interest, or have to get back to tending their
real jobs.

The most qualified potential moderators in this group have
already killfilled or ignored M.R. -- why would they volunteer
to start sifting through them again?

Would a moderator allow this post? Better to avoid such
ridiculous problems, when everyone is free to ignore it.

I've been lurking for a while now, and it occurs to me that
when you wrestle in the mud with pigs, the pigs love it. Or,
to call on another cliche, it takes two to tango. Don't like
someone or their posts? Killfile them and be done with it. The
fact that this inevitably turns into a back and forth "he
said, she said" leads me to believe that to some extent, both
sides love it.

No doubt. I killfiled Roose, and then unkillfiled him, just to
get in on the fun.

No need for moderation. He will eventually go away.
Easy enough to ignore, and sometimes these people can
be (inadvertently) useful. The REALLY important thing
is that the true contributing posters NOT go away. We
have lost a few already.
