I am trying to lose fat and gain muscle (arent we all). I
am not trying to bulk up heavily though, i just want to
gain definition in my upper body by strengthening the
muscles there.

For some weeks i have been on a low calorie diet with lots of
cardio (swimming) and some resistance training in the form of
an intense pushup routine and so far i have acheived some
nice results.

My question though is this - to gain muscle i read that you
must eat more, but to lose fat you must eat less (as i have
been doing). Does my low-calorie diet mean that my pushup
routine is not a good idea? (either becasue i am not eating
enough to make a change there, or even i may be burning muscle
away by over-exercise and under-eating)

Otherwise phrased - is it possible to gain/strengthen/define
muscle on a low-calorie diet?

thanks,

crisis

Congrats

That's generally true for conditioned people. Beginners
are an exception, many find they can gain muscle while
they are dieting.

Yes. Since you've only been dieting and exercising for several
weeks, you should be able to lose fat and gain muscle.

To lose fat, I would eat a few hundred calories less than
maintanance. Don't lose more than a pound or two a week. If
you drop your calories very low, then you will definately lose
muscle. You could also get your bodyfat tested periodically,
so you can see how much muscle you are gaining/losing and
adjust your diet if necessary.

Make sure to eat a lot of protein if you want to gain muscle.
I would do a full body routine instead of just pushups, you
will see better results that way.

Yes, keep up your protein levels.

Maintenance is a moving target.

Depends on the cycle.

BS. Sarcopenia and associated muscle loss has been proven to
be sustainable or reversible with a proper strength program
eating as little as two pounds of food per day.

Unless you are obese, you will SEE the muscle loss gain. Get a
tape measure and a mirror.

Honey, you should at least try to understand other peoples
posts before you go repeating it as your own.

Of what? It's unclear what you're saying, they way you cut the
post off. Not a chance of you stopping the plagerizing, or you
understanding the stuff you plagerize?
