A website I read said that a normal pulse rate for an adult is
72 beats per minute on average, which is what I have. Now
that's not checking it after sleeping, but once I've been
through the day and I'm wasting the evening pecking away on my
computer keyboard. Here are my stats:

Sex: Male Age: 32 Height: 5' 11" Weight: 260 Pulse: 68-74
(three tries) Blood Pressure: 121 / 83

I figured being this big I'd have high blood pressure AND a
high pulse rate, but everything seems to be normal. Of
course, I've only been this size since about May of 1999 or
so, so I guess if I stay this large much longer, I could get
some of the high blood pressure and high pulse problems. Any
tips or comments?

Yes, I'm working to get it off. I'm finally living in a place
where I can ride a bike on a hard, smooth surface, not some
bumpity backroad with gravel and potholes all in it. Riding is
a pleasure where before it was a pain. All the surface are as
flat as a pancake, but that's fine because I prefer flat
streets for riding as I can simply pedal and maintain a
constant heartrate instead of pumping up one hill and resting
down the next.

Your stats look great, especially for someone with your
weight. One suggestion - watch your diet, eat less. I am now
53, pulse 50, blood pressure used to be 120/70, now more
like 140/80, and I weigh 180. As you get older without
shedding the extra weight, your stats will probably get
significantly worse.

Thanks for the tips. I had another bike ride tonight. I
stopped to check my pulse after ten minutes and it was 152. My
sister mentioned that while my resting pulse may be normal,
since I've been so sedentary for the last four years, my pulse
may run higher while exercising than someone else who is fit
and doing the same exercise.

I forgot to warm up, too. I just hopped on the bike and took
off, not realizing I should warm up for five minutes. :-) I
think I'm going to like this exercise thing. Before, I had a
job where I got plenty of exercise running up and down stairs
delivering pizza. But now I'm a webmaster and most of my
exercise takes place in my fingers. Plus, going to school to
actually make a full-time career out of computer programming
is going to lead to more sedentary times in my life, so I must
make it a point to get some movement into my life.

Thanks again, Damaeus
