I've been thinking about getting into yoga.

Right now I can only take aerobics classes 2 times a week -
over the weekend (free aerobics classes at the beach!), but I
don't feel like doing aerobic-type exercises at home. I can't
go to the gym because it's closed for the holidays. I have
been doing a lot of swimming/diving/snorkelling, but also only
over the weekend, so I'm looking for something new to do
during the week. It is getting too humid for
jogging/walking...

I've read recently a lot about yoga benefits, and as my work
and my studying is sedentary, I do need a lot of stretching.
Also, I've been under a lot of stress, and I heard it is
excellent for relaxation. My husband is interested in it too,
so it might be fun to do it together.

So, I was wondering about the following: if I do yoga at
home, from the book instructions/videotape (as the gym is
closed, we have no classes), will I be able to do it
properly? How long does it take to learn to do it *by heart*
(without constantly checking the book/videotape)? Which
book/videotape would you recommend? I've been actually
looking forward to it, so please feel free to give me all the
information! Thanks in advance, Elly

I used the book Power Yoga by Birch. It was popular with
runners and swimmers. It is the best book I have read on basic
flexibility concepts....I skipped the spiritial stuff. The
first pattern was very easy to learn and very useful for
me. Yoga in warm environments is the best for flexibility in
my opinion.

In the summers I have learned that a very efficient way to
stretch is in my 100 plus degree attic. I at least start there
to warm my core, and at times I have stretched for quite
awhile sorta like a sauna maybe.

Sling Skate

Buy ALTOIDS!!! Thanks for the support UK.
