A signed but private email received regarding my post:
What Is REALLY In A Certification?
"Of course you're right, but most people who have paid for
their "certification" are not about to admit that those
"credentials" are bullshit. I'm not a "fitness professional",
but I am a "professional". I'm an architect, a member of an
elite tribe of bullshit artists.
So I applaud you for attacking the whole stupid idea of
"credentials". Unfortunately, you're shoveling shit against
the tide, because people are brainwashed from school day #1
about the "value" of all this credential shit by people who
are "true believers" in it all -- teachers.
Thanks for trying, anyway."

The one thing about a certification is that (I assume) it can
be _lost_. People with credentials have a reason to perform
in accordance with professional standards if there is a
greater penalty than _eventual_ loss of business. (The fate
of Mr. Roose?)
Even if that's the ONLY significance, it is of significance.
But, that doesn't mean one _needs_ certification. It is
possible to develop a clientele without it, and I would think
potential clients would place favorable word of mouth ahead of
certification.

All I can say is I agree. I've been a certified fitness pro
for several years JUST so I can be hired in our local-yocal
fitness centers who are ademant about certification. I also
have more than one certification and have to renew them every
two years. That's alot of money which I think I could use
better. Unfortunately, we have to play "the games" according
to the rules the Big Boys make up or WE lose. Thanx for
realizing that a professional is not professional JUST BECUASE
he/she has taken quack tests someone devised to empower
themselves. I can get the same damned education reading books
and magazines.

Sure is and you may have given the ONLY reason to be certified
and that is to gain cheaper access to liability insurance and
to pass the "credentials test" by the morons who own and
operate gyms all over the world; those that have no clue how
to interview and determine professionalism in the strength
training and aerobics sector.

Or better yet, join the Supertraining list on yahoogroups. It
is the best education source available on Usenet.

Sucking up, Wally? ( I can call you Wally, right? )
Dunno, maybe that'll keep you from being booted of
Supertraining for plagiarization. Ya think?

I'm more curious how yahoogroups qualifies as USENET
