The hydration of food decreases its calorie density. The
dehydration of food increases its calorie density. For 100
calories, you can eat 1/4 cup of raisins--or nearly 2 cups of
grapes. Which is more likely to fill you up?
Fruits and vegetables generally have a low calorie density,
partly because of their high water content. Don't dehydrate
those foods which are naturally high in water content. Eat
plums not prunes (or, at least, soak and stew your prunes).
When you eat pasta, add cooked broccoli, cauliflower, and
carrots, so that, for the same number of calories, you can
have twice as much to chew, swallow, and digest.
Seeds and grains can often be hydrated by soaking them in
water. I soak sesame seeds, broccoli seeds, and oat groats
before I eat them (raw or cooked) so that they are more
filling. I eat lots water every day. Eating water makes it
easier to practice calorie restriction.
