Hi all,
I'm new to this forum, so be nice!
I started a low carb diet today, to which end I thought I might try and boost my chances by getting some of this Xenadrine thats been talked about a lot. I looked on the web for the cheapest price I could find (about £34 per 120 capsules) but realising I couldnt wait for delivery I checked the Holland and Barret website: they sell it for £40 per 120 capsules (1 months supply).
I then went to my nearest Holland and Barret and would you believe it, they are having a sale on they're own brand version called Xtralean . Its exactly the same but they are currently selling it for £15 per 120 capsules. By my reckoning thats a saving of over 60%!!
Anyhoo, I just popped my 1st capsule so fingers crossed.
Incidentally, I'm looking for a buddy if anybody is interested..

Hi George
You have found like many others that Holland and Barrett is a great place to visit for low carbers, particularly for supplements. They can have some good deals.
By the way, what is Xenadrine? Is it one of those fat burners? Let me know how you get on with it as I am not convinced they are generally worth the money.
Hope you enjoy low carbing, for someone who has just celebrated their first annivesary.

Hi L.A.
Yeah, Xenadrine has beenavailble in the states for a few years (3 years?) and leagally in this country from about 9 months ago. It was all over the tabloids for a couple of days as the knew "wonder drug" availble on the NHS to cure obesity. Its touted as a safe alternative to ephedrine.
It was a bit worrying to start with as it contains a huge amount of caffeine and I was on detox for a month right up until I had the first dose... I was effectively on Speed the first five or six times I had it. It certainly woke me up!! Yesterday and today I didnt really notice anything major after I had it - but it is definitaly strong ad i'm sure it alters my "mood".
Cant really say wheather it made much of a differenrce to my weightloss attempt though as I have noting to compare it too, I should probably have waited until I got to a sticking point...
btw: well done on a year LCing, I hope I get that far too!

Hi George
Thanks for the info. Saw there was also a bit in the General Exercise part of this forum.
Hope it works for you. Just be aware that caffeine is a stimulant for insulin and low carbing is trying to reduce the levels and hence action of insulin. This may or may not have a negative effect on your weight loss. Something to bear in mind.

Holland And Barrett have just started the same half price deal now as they had last year: £15 for 120 capsules of Xtralean (equiv £40 worth of Xenadrine).
It helped me a lot last year (probably a placebo effect in the end as much as anything else, but what the hey if it works, it works). So I bought some on Monday, and started a months course yesterday. No side affects either, probably 'cos I havent been on a months detox beforehand this time!
Only 2 more lbs to lose to hiy my original target now :yay:

Hi
Ok Xenadrine Used To Have Ephedrine. It No Longer Does. Its Caffenine And Other Herbs, Keep In Mind Tht Caffeine Can Raise Your Insuin. Honestly I Haven't Seen It Work For Anyone. If You Do The Lc There Is No Need For A Diet Pill. Some Good Things To Take Are Cla, L- Carnitine, And Alpha Lipoic Acid. I Just Recived Today A Rough Draft Of Ed Byrds New Book No2 And Lc.
This Will Be Available At Gnc For A Buck In A Few Weeks. Great Product!!!!

I use hydroxandrine. But, I do not recommend this product! It is very potent. I like it, because it keeps me on my feet (and I already was use to exercising)
This is not something for beginners to use. If you dont need an ECA, thats great!

Tesco sells something called Diet Fuel. I think it's £11.99. It's basically guarana and caffeine but they do work quite well and they're nature based rather then chemical - if you see what I mean.

they diet fuel is the same as all the others. no diet pill is chemical they are all natural. only drugs are chemicals.
i have using hot rox. it uses 5-htp for mood suport and amino acids. guarana isstill caffenine and it causes a surpressed appetite which once it wears off at night. thats when youll start eating. for energy take a good multi and extra b-12. it works well.

I'm no doctor, but this can't possibly be correct. Many drugs are made of natural plants/herbs etc., like opium, it's natural, it comes from a flower - but, correct me if I'm wrong, - it's still a drug ! Until a few weeks ago even caffeine was on the WADA's list of illegal substances. Lots of diet pills contains earlier illegal and questionable substances, among them chemicals, - often masked up as something else/something natural. Guerana is natural, but it's still addictive, like caffeine is in a lot of other forms. I used Herbalifes products and among them guarana for 6 months and felt great. I did not use the products to lose weight, but as a nutritional supplement to feel better. When I stopped taking it I felt worse than I did before I started taking them.
I started LC'ing 3 months ago and are not among the most successfull, but I've done it "the natural way", eating all the foods permitted in phase 1, drinking a lot of water. I've been in ketosis since day 2. I know I'm a turtle compared to lots of you, but as long as I know my body is burning fat of it's own I would never think of using diet pills as a fat burner. For those who have a problem getting into ketosis I can fully understand why diet pills sound like a good alternative...... I'm sure most of us have tried several ways of losing weight before, also expensive diet pills, but isn't LC'ing also a way of changing the way you eat....(WOE) so you don't need diet pills - ever again ??
There as many ways of dieting as there are people, and different things work for different people. If the diet pills really works as the advertisment say, - why is there so many dangeroulsy obese people around ? We could just pop pills and be skinny !
The way to lose weight is to have a healthy lifestyle, eat healty food, drink a lot of water and excercise. We will always discuss what's healty, but it's def not diet pills !

Hello Lady...
Great find..I had purchased some of those last year and I think I paid about $35 for them at my local GNC (in Virginia at that time).
What plan is that you are doing? How does it work...I'm doing Atkins, I put partial because I didn't do an induction. I have just been eating protein and low carb...
This forum is great and has been a tremendous blessing to me!
Let's do this thing!

Hi estherm,
Erm, firstly I'm not a Lady...
I'm diong a of Hybrid LC diet of Protein Power/The Zone. I don't agree with the Atkins philosophy of eating as much fat as you want, but it is certainly not a bad way to start! I still believe in:
Energy Ingested - Energy Expended = Weight Change
When I detoxed, it was for the whole of July 2002 as a pre-cursor to LCing, this is what I stuck to:
Semi-detox diet: no alcohol, no caffeine, no nicotine, no chocolate (or sweets), no delivery pizzas, Multi-Vitamin Capsule & 500mg Vitamin C with breakfast.
I drank a LOT of bottled water as well, I also did some gentle (initially) jogging. It was difficult at times (this is the real world after all!) but I felt really good at the end of the month.
The one thing that really helped me was positive affirmation: basically, if I felt my willpower starting to wane, I would spend a minute or so in bed just before going to sleep saying to myself (aloud or otherwise): I dont smoke, I dont drink alcohol.. etc
I finally quit smoking permanently on January 1st 2003.
I'm thinking of doing a detox month again in conjuction with LCing in January 2004. Will probably add in Vitamin E this time as well.
Looks like you are going great guns at the moment, keep it up!

Well done Zzoom on quitting smoking at the start of the year. That is a great achievement in itself.
I tend to agree with Nille and am losing weight just from the things I eat. Never found increased chromium worked and did not see the point of other chemicals from whatever source they come from.
I must agree with you that weight loss is relevant to the amount you eat and thus disagree with you that Atkins allows unlimited fat. At the beginning of any weight loss programme it is the carbs rather than the calories that are important, but after the first couple of months when your body settles into a routine then you have to start factoring calories in as well.
