Our nutrient data Tool is based on the most current USDA data release, version 14, from July 2001. It also includes additional fast food counts which were not included with the USDA update. Check it out by clicking on Low Carb Tools from the orange menu bar near the top of the page, or click here (http://www.lowcarb.ca/low-carb-tools/) to open a new window.

Thanks Doreen, I had no idea that there was a Nutrient Data Tool here. Can you access the database online?

What is nice about the USDA database is that it has free online access and includes very detailed information. Especially if you want to know exactly what your ratio of monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and saturated fat per food. It even breaks down to the individual fatty acids which is helpful in my research.

Hi V.

Yes, our Great and Magnificent webmaster Wa'il has programmed the database (we call it the carb counter tool) to include all the nutrients, vitamins, amino acids .. even the energy factors

When you enter the food name, the page that opens is just a brief list, showing the carbs, ECC, fiber and protein for 100g, which is the default serving size. However, if you click on the food name, it will open the full nutrient data panel for that food, and you can change the serving size too.

It's superior to fitday in that the vitamins and minerals are listed as the actual amounts, whereas fitday only shows as a % of the RDA.

I have been amazed today to discover all these handy tools and all this info right at my finger tips... didn't get much work done today....

anway, I was trying to figure out how to enter into fitday.com the 3/4 .lb of filet mignon I had for dinner , and I was presented with a bewildering list of things like beef or pork tenderloins, cut and trimmed X% of fat, etc. etc. and I have no idea how to translate my two little filets into that info..

had a similar problem with the carb counter tool on this site (great tool, by the way).

can anyone help?

Hi Mr. Freddy,

These are great tools.

If you didn't get your question answered, you might post it on the Newbies Questions forum.

I'll see if I can help. Filet mignon is not listed as such in fitday.com. Use "beef steak". If you didn't eat the fat on the edges then choose "fat trimmed" or "fat not eaten".

Filet mignon comes from the tenderloin portion ... so if you type in beef, tenderloin .. you'll get the most accurate choices. This applies not just to fitday, but to our own nutrient data tool as well.

super, thanks a lot! I thought it was tenderloin, but I just wasn't sure. I assume it with 0 fat trimmed?

assume it with 0 fat trimmed? That sounds right to me. Now of course, I'm hungry just thinking about it. Mmmm .. filet steak dressed with herb & garlic butter. :yum:
