Hola,
I am just wondering how much exercise everyone is doing? (days per week/what forms of exercise etc.)
I have been low carbing for a good while now (and keeping too low of fat/calorie intake). As some of you know, I am tweaking my diet to make it more "Atkins style"...IE. increasing Fat/calories & strictly keeping under 20gms of carbs. In doing this I have been so darn lazy... Hard to get to the gym this week... Anyhow, I was just wondering what you guys are doing & what kind of loss have you been seeing per week...I WILL go to the gym today, I WILL go to the gym today etc :D ....Have a good one!

Spike,
I have been on the Atkin's Diet since April 23 of this year. As of today I have lost 20 pounds.
I walk for 30-40 mins every other day. (Depends on my work schedule)

I'm on atkins also. Before I got sick {head cold} I was doing the pool about once a day and biking every other day. I started April 1 with a 25 lb. lose...but I'm at a stand still right now with being sick. Atkins encourages a lot of fat due to the fact that's where your energy comes from. I know that if I don't take enough fat in I will feel sluggish...and my weight lose will slow. But then again...that’s me.
Good luck!

I TRY to go to aerobics 2-3 times a week and I TRY to do my callanetics tape every evening. I used to get down on myself if I didn't do things everyday, but moderation is better than nothing!

cool...It's kind of strange but, I have taken this week off from the gym any I jumped on the scale this morning...3lb loss from last Friday!!??? :D (I weigh no more than once a week) ...go figure...but hey, I'm not complaining right? Anyhow, I'll try to get back into the gym starting this weekend... Who knows, maybe it's because I have been eating some real food instead of protein shakes?...But, on a down note, I have not seen any change yet on the keto-stix... I have been deadly strict on not going above 20gms of carb since monday. I know it's no big deal, but...I'd LOVE to see that sucker turn purple!!! When I did the Atkins a yr-yr & 1/2 ago, I had the same problem...oh well:rolleyes:
Have a good weekend,

congratulations on the 3lb loss spike! that's great. last time i lost well on atkins, i never went above the second pink. i kept my carbs low as well. don't obsess over the keto-stix. let the scales and your clothes tell the story.
i do ab work everyday, because i have sciatica and ab work keeps it under control. i only devolped sciatica when i gained weight from eating low fat! i do resistance training 3 times a week. it's not a very long routine. it only takes me 15 minutes, but i've been doing it faithfully for over a year. i also walk my dog, homer, most days. that's my aerobic exercise. he sets a pretty quick pace!

I do tons of exercise! Actually, I really like to exercise (most of the time). I know---something is wrong with me! I love the elliptical machine at my gym. I do that for about 30 mins a day. I also ride the bike. I play basketball all the time too! (my boyfriend has yet to beat me one-on-one) :)
Congrats on the 3 lb. loss!!!

I lift 5 days a week, do aerobics 5-6 days a week, yoga to stay limber 5 days a week. Plus all the other running around I do with the children 7 days a week.
The pic below isn't very clear but hey I've come a long way! ;)

Thanks for the nice compliment and
Yes, I'm sure I've given birth 3 times! lol
Their ages are 8, 6, 3.
I tried the Atkins diet but it made me very tired and I can't afford that with three children.
So what I did what scratch out everything made with flour, starchy carbs, and sugar. Added weigthlifting, aerobics 5-6 days a week and of course 1-2 cheat days per week and the fat just came off. Within a month there was a noticeable difference.
I have just started a thermogenic product to help me lose the last few pounds that seem to want to stick to me.
I'll try to find a before pic and post it.
Exercising helps to relieve stress and get me energized for the day.
If anyone needs motivation for exercising get a copy of Oxygen and Muscle & Fitness Hers magazines.
It tells you everything you need to know plus the pictures are an incentive all their own.

Susie,
Seems like you stumbled on something similar to CKD by accedent? Low-carbing in general, and carbing 2 days a week, plus weights and cardio.

If that's what it's called!
Like Arnold Swarchznegger(sp?) once said, white flour is the enemy, or something along that line!
What can I say I'm an Arnold fan as well as any other bodybuilder and fitness buffs out there right now. Although I do think the women in fitness are getting a little too big. There starting to look like light weight bodybuilders.
Any body else noticed this?

You look great!!! What was your starting weight? I read your profile and it said 118...and now your 125...That would have to be lean muscle mass!!

I suppose I should actually answer the question asked in this thread ...
When I low-carb (CKD), I am getting ready for summer or something special (publicity shots, etc.) so the activity level is WAY high ... cardio daily in am, heavy weights on Mondays, circuits on Wed & Fri, abs on Tues & Thurs, by week 4, its cardio in AM & PM ... with the occassional aforementioned basketball games once or twice a week as cross training/active recovery.
When I am bridging, it's heavy full body workouts on the weights 3x week, cardio @ 30 mins 3 days per week, and some b-ball.
When it's a pre-season bridge, I will be doing drills to improve my basketball game, as well as plyometics to improve my pitiful vertical leap. I still avoid white flour products and limit my carb intake somewhat, protein is always high no matter how I am eating.
When I am bulking (off-season), HEAVY HEAVY weights 4x week, focusing on major power moves and developing/improving core strength, eating anything that I see, and basically do no cardio. The goal is to attain as much muscle mass as possible in a 6 to 8 week period.

My weight should read 125lbs when I first started to 118lbs to my now present 115lbs.
I've been at 115 for a while now but I'm still shrinking. My waist now measures 25 inches. One more inch left to go! :)
I'm hoping to reach 118-120 through lean mass within the next few months.
I don't think I would of lost so quickly if:
- I hadn't changed my diet!
- Hadn't started aerobics
- Kept up with the weight training sessions!

Ah, you can always update the numbers from the "Profile" icon on top. This way we (all) will lose some extra lbs in our total of 7000+ :)

Wow those numbers are impressive!
How long have you been at this? (it was probably in your profile and I overlooked it!)
Most people I know that want to lose, keep complaining they can't! Probably because of not being consistent or not following the diet properly or a mixture of both.
Keep up at it!

Ok, I just started the Atkins diet yesterday, and so far it's been easy. But I am a 19 year old powerlifter recovering from an injury. I have begun my prevoius workout schedule of lifting hard and heavy 6 days a week and running 25-30 miles a week. Since my back injury, I have about 20 lbs. of fat to lose. My question to ya'll is, do you think the Atkins diet will give me enough nutrients and energy to keep up with my workout regiment? I am taking Centrum multi-vitamins daily and I eat Protein Revolution bars (2.5 carbs per bar) and drinking protein shakes (0 carbs and 50 grams of protein) to help with the nutrition. Is that still gonna be enough for me?

Adam-
You need to check out the CKD. There is an Exercise/CKD forum and there are some good informative posts in there. The CKD is low-carb during the week and carbing-up on weekends. (energy for your heavy lifting workouts). My boyfriend and I are starting the CKD again on Monday. He is a personal trainer and I am sure he'll have lots of info for you. I'll tell him to check out your post. In the meantime, check out the CKD forum.
Welcome aboard!!!

Your photo is impressive! I also use the CKD, and exercise 5 days a week. I stay below 20 during the week and eat whatever on the weekends. I find that I have more energy while in ketosis, then when I was carbing. I think it may be that you burn up your glycogen and then you get a tired feeling. With ketosis, the ketones are more abundant than your 20 minutes of stored glycogen. This is just a feeling, and the trainers that post here can certainly set me straight on that.
You have kids, but are you married? ;0)

I've been a beta endorphin freak for about 13 years. I did everything from jogging to swimming to aerobics. I finally settled on the Nordictrack as the primary method of getting my rush. I try to do 30 - 40 minutes every morning before 6:30 am. I had been slacking off for the past few weeks as its been incredibly hot (103F on average), but I started back on track yesterday and I'm amazed how much better I feel. I thought there might be problems / adjustments because of the low carb content of my diet, but both workouts have gone smoothly.
Once the cold weather (i.e. winter) is upon us I will be doing 40 minutes in the morning and 40 at night 5 times a week. This was the regiment I started about 4 years ago that enabled me to keep my weight stable while on a low fat diet. I am anxious to see what will happen now, as I've already lost 8 lbs in one week sans any kind of exercise at all.
Oh i nearly forgot, I registered last night for 2 aqua fit classes a week starting in October! I'm totally psyched for that :D
