Hi fellow PCOSers!

I am continually impressed with this site. I have just started low carbing and am happy to see so many people supporting each other.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 1998. Although I should have known and followed it up many years before. I am insulin resistant as many of us are and anovulatory.

Once I found out I felt I had to do exactly as my Gynaecologist said and lose at least 10% of my body weight and try to conceive naturally. No luck - I am a hopeless dieter! So he relented and tried clomid and provera. No luck - just me becoming an almost homocidal maniac. Being a buddist my gyno said I had no choice but to go natural. Unfortunately this did not inspire me to lose the weight - there was no assistance offered. I have done nothing further since 1999 and practically gave up on children.

Then last month I read about low carbing and read some more, chosing Atkins to change myself and my lifestyle. After 2 weeks I have seen great results and can only hope that this will continue. I have even seen my GP for a referal to the Gynaecologist again to rethink my options. I am hoping that I will see some results other than weight loss. Perhaps my periods will regulate themselves, I've heard others say it is possible.

It's great to read about all of your stories, it inspires me to keep going.

Welcome! Yes, There are so many people here with such a wealth of information. Many times I've just gotten lost in the posts trying to absorb all the information.

My periods did become more regular within 2 months after starting LCing. But as I'm past wanting more children, (I have 4 and I'm 40 years old) I couldn't begin to know whether fertility returns full force or not. My hair, which was falling out, appears to be thicker and less fragile and I have less acne. Are you noticing any outward signs of improved health? If these less necessary parts of us are healthier, it makes sense to me that the more necessary ones are benefitting equally well. I agree with you fully in that you should talk with your GYN again. This may be the break your body was looking for. Keep me posted! Better yet, post a picture of the baby!

Good Luck!

Thanks for your reply Pepper.

Yes I am feeling much healthier (other than a cold - it is winter here!). My body clock has undergone major adjustment, I am up early and raring to go, rather than my usual dragging myself out of bed.

I am still dropping weight, which is pleasing at this stage. I have the thinnest wrists I've had since I was a teenager!

And now that you mention it, I think I am shedding less hair daily. It is interesting how well this change has made me feel, especially as it flies in the face of all conventional dietary advice! I went out to dinner with a friend last night and she was amazed at what I am eating and how much weight I have taken off!

The best part is that my appetite has reduced and I FEEL HAPPY!!!

It's nice to know that we are the "smart" eaters!

Sam,

There is definitely hope for ovulation with this WOL. I started the diet not long ago and also take glucophage. For the first time in several years I ovulated this past month. The effort is well worth the rewards in so many ways. Welcome and happy LCing!
