I was just curious as to what kinds of food people like to eat on their 'carb-up'... I'll start the list-

-low fat Pop Tarts

-fat-free/low fat Ben & Jerry’s (I think they have low-fat cookie dough in ‘yogurt ice cream’ form).

-Entemann's FAT-FREE chocolate doughnuts

-Entemann's LOW-FAT danish

-Reese’s Puffs (Cereal)

im no expert, but i think you should go for lots of high gi carbs, low fat and moderate protein. For the second 24 hours if you go that long, switch to low gi carbs...

-Avoid foods high in fat. Any food low in fat and high in carbohydrates is what you want to look for. Anyways, as for the G/I of the foods-it's not that important unless you plan on 'carbing-up' for more than 24 hours. If you do, after 12 hours of 'carbing-up' you'll want to gradually switch over to lower G/I carbohydrates.

What's sounding good to me this weekend:

Blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup
Sushi (mmmmm, wasabi!!)
Caramel corn
Cheetos Puffs
Oatmeal with brown sugar and raisins
Chips and Salsa (I can get good lowfat ones)
Grands Cinnamon buns (Will have to check the fat)
I'll have to check out the Entemanns. I haven't had that since my Susan Powter days. (There, the secret's out. Do with me what you will. :) )

Cheers,

Friday

Here's what I actually bought:

Mac n Cheese mix (I can cut the butter in half)
Orange gumdrop slices
Kettlecorn
Low Fat pop tarts (Zeus's fault)
Whole wheat bread for french toast
low fat muffin mix
fat free ice cream

Are you worried about too much fat intake, such as with the french fries and pizza. and also the 'everything' on your bake potatoe? Maybe I am just trying to be a stickler, but isn't fat mupposed to be at a minimum (I am not sure exactly why this is though).

-The baked potato (with everything), 'Popeyes' french fries and chicken, 'Miami' foot-long meatball sub, and pizza are all very poor choices for 'carb-up' foods. You're much better off eating SWEETS (certain 'sweets'). The reason fat intake should be limited is to prevent any fat-gain during the 'carb-up'. The 'carb-up' should not be mistaken for a 'eat anything and everything you want day'.

fat also slows the absorption of the carbs and may inhibit you from eating your full load of carbs as it may feel you up too much.

Hey Iyonna!
I agree with what everyone is saying here about the fat intake on the weekends. HOWEVER, if you find that your carb-up works for you and you are happy with the results, than keep on doing what you're doing. The first time I did a CKD I ate whatever I wanted on the weekends and I lost like 22 pounds in 6 wks. It could have been because i was new to lc'ing but hey, it worked for me.

Best of luck to you and keep up updated on your CKD progress!

Take care,
Linda

Sour cream potatoes chips and dorritoes--- baked potatoe w/ sour cream ---these are my biggest cheat.

I can't see offhand how beer (or alcohol) would be bad, with the exception of a mixed drink that would contain fat (pina-coloda). But does alcohol convert to glycogen, and is alcohol bad for carb-ups?

I've gotta say- I think I should get the 'going off-topic award'. I mean, who else can change the topic of 'carb-up foods' to 'shrinkage' ...!?

Trainerdan

That's too damn funny. LOL. "Shrinkage". Nice. I hate cold days.

As for my carb-up foods, I think those who saw my carb up list know that I have a thing for Twizzlers. :)

I also like breakfsat cereals w/ skim milk (or 1%), Skittles, Baked Lays (KC Masterpiece flavor), soda, Kozy Shak Rice Pudding, and any low-fat Tastykakes or Entenmans that I can get my hands on. That rounds out the High-Glycemic stuff.

For Lower-GI, I use oatmeal, sweet potatoes, protein enriched pastas (haven't done in a while, but Met-Rx makes some), whole grain bread w/ low-fat peanut butter ... man, I'm hungry now.

Damn, why didn't I think of this. Get fat (which is easy) ... then sue. If he gets millions ... I'll be pissed.
