Wussy, corn is very high on the glycemic index, which means it makes your blood sugar spike pretty high and then crash pretty quickly, like other starchy things (potatoes, pasta, rice, bread etc etc). Rice cakes are a big offender, crazy ain't it, being the diet food of choice along with carrot stix? It's a simple carbohydrate, which means sugar, even though it doesn't taste sweet.

I love corn also and have had to cut it way back. After a couple of weeks you'll lose the cravings for these kinds of things. Even air popped without any butter it's b-a-d...

I treat myself to some every couple of weeks, airpopped with a bit of butter and salt. I find I don't need it anymore, though. Just makes me feel yukky, like after I eat pasta. I'd rather have some olives, cheese, nuts (very small amounts - these are very fattening but also have good stuff if they are raw and not roasted) and some tinned pineapple.

If you want to explore other low-carb options, search the web for info about The Zone program. It allows more fruit than some of the others. I've been on it since February and have had good results!

Hi, Wuss!

I love popcorn too, but it's way high in carbs...about 4 grams a cup, popped (with fibre already subtracted). OK, that doesn't sound like much; but who can eat ONE cup of popcorn! Certainly not I! If you can HONESTLY eat just a handful or two, it probably wouldn't hurt, but if you're like most of us, one handful leads to two, leads to three, leads to a whole giant bowl!

Can you get pork rinds where you live? You may or may not like them, but a lot of people find they fit the bill for a crunchy snack, especially with some sort of creamy dip. The unflavoured kind is zero carbs.

ohhh it seems my popcorn days must come to an end. i can get along with just a couple handfuls, as long as i eat something before hand so i'm not tempted.

my new theory is if i MUST have something carbish, i take only a very little amount and go upstairs to this site, read, and remember why i'm doing this, and remember why i SHOULD NOT eat carbs. *L* i like to justify things, like "oh, if i only do it a couple times a week i'll be fine..." no no no wussy!!! shame.

yes, i've partaken of *ahem* porkrinds. i'm still getting aquanted with them. right now we're not very good friends *L* i recently saw a cheese flavored, so...we'll see. i tried it with cream cheese...not too good. but i'm a pork fiend, so hopefully i can get used to them. all the vegetables they list that i can eat i'm not crazy about...any hints on how to deal with that??

ugh, my stomach hurts too. i've been taking fibre in pill form, and it worked before...but now more is coming in me than is going back out. what's the reccomended fibre content i should be having daily??

and as always, thank you for responding : ) i'm still getting used to how friendly everyone is *L* i love it!
