hey all...okay, i exercize like 3 times a month and i'd like to start going about 4 days a week to start out. i'm awful at breathing heavily, i hate not being able to breathe!!!! i'd like to start running, but i need a good pace on what to start on. i bike for about 12 minutes and do toning about half an hour, then stretch for at least 15 minutes. so i have that down...but i'm terrible at anything to do with my heart rate...any suggestions?? especially for a beginner :D *heheh*

I hate exercise that makes me feel like I can't breathe too!
Maybe a good place to start is walking: set a good brisk pace, walk like you're trying to get somewhere fast! One thing I like about walking is that I can do it for hours, I don't flop over like I do with jogging.
I'm no exercise guru, but I hate jogging, and walking works for me! I'm sure others (who probably know more than I do!) will hop in with their exercise advice too.

LOL...your too cute wus,
I thought I was the only one that couldn't spell exercise. Finally got it though, but still have to think about it.
I put it down to maybe cause I hate doing it...LOL
Walking like Rachel says is a good way to start. As time goes on you can start thinking of other ways. Do you have a Y in your area? They offer a lot of programs (swimming might interest you about now?). I forgot to see where your from, oh well, just some thoughts for you.

Again, if your too shy for that sort of thing right now...get into walking, tummy crunches... exercise tapes for the vcr?

hey all : )
yes, crunches are one of my best friends *i actually ENJOY doing them...once i actually get around to doing them...heh* walking is a good idea, i don't do nearly enough of that. i have a membership to a local gym, so i'm addicted to the bikes *not good weather to take my real bike out yet : ( * i do a yoga tape and am looking at thighs/buns of steel *L* there are a few free classes at my gym that i've been looking into, but again i hate to go alone *wuss wuss wuss* so i'm trying to talk people into going with me *L* my head hurts...ugh : ( i haven't had my diet soda for the day so i'm a bit depressed and have much less energy. that passes, doesn't it?? oh, and i cheated today *shame* i had 1/2 a donut, but i consider it an accomplishment because i had only 1/2. yay : ) and tomorrow they're giving us hot chocolate and croissants *UGH* how dare them. but i figure i'm still getting used to this *but how's this for self restraint?? i have a freezer FULL of reeses (thank you mother..argh) and i haven't touched them : ) * well, i need a little whipped cream to satisfy a sweet tooth...i found making a small batch of whipped cream and eating very little satisfies it...or a spoonful of peanut butter..mmmm....okay, can't think about food. i need a real meal *L* wow, thanks everyone for posting : )

I bike ride and walk in our little pool. But when I get down to a smaller size {40 more lbs} I will go back to circuit training! That does wonders! It only takes 30 mins to do...and your doing both aerobic and cardeo. You really only need a few weights, a running board and a step up board {like for aerobics} All of this is easily put under your bed. Just do each for 2 minutes until the 30 mins is up. Rotating the weights for the different muscle groups. Also keep in mind you need to be able to talk. Never work out so hard that you can't talk with ease. If you have difficulty taking/breathing then slow down some, cause you are doing yourself no good! That should make you feel better to know you don't have to kill yourself!ha! I know it made me feel better...and I'm able to stick to a routine allot easier now.
Good luck!

hi rainny,
Good idea for a workout .. :) .. Just curious why you want to wait "till you're smaller" to get to it?? Especially since you mention doing in the privacy of your own home. I'm sure there won't be anything you do then, that you can't get started at now. Weight-training done now will build muscles that will speed up your fat-burning efforts, so you'll be "smaller" all the sooner.

I started going to the Y. This post hates me, it keeps kicking me off ?
Any way, don't let anyone intimidate you, they all feel the same at the gym. Everyone feels like a dork ha,ha.
I started off using the elliptical cross trainer for 10 minutes and now I can stay on for over and hour.
If you don't have a Y, try a hotel like the Holiday Inn. Most of them have gyms and take memberships.
Don't overdo it. You should only have intense workouts every other day or you can cause injury and you won't loose weight as your body will become anaerobic. Drink alot of water to avoid dehydration.

I see no one has told you about breathing exercises. This is very important to do. Each day practice deep breathing by breathing in and then blow out while expanding your stomach as far you can while letting out all the air. Do this slowly and make sure you let out all the air you can, do not do shallow breathing. I have asthma and I feel this helps me with my walking on the trails with my dogs, especially going up hills. Walking is one of the best ways to get your lungs (deep breathing) and yourself in shape to do other strenuous exercises for later but don't forget to do deep breathing in and out. I also find the weight bearing exercises is great also. I have added wrist and ankle weights to my walking, but I only do it every other day with the weights. Remember deep breathing exercises will expand your lungs and make life a little easier. Don't think about running right now try get the walking and breathing down pat first and do more distance each time. Just a little at a time and before you know it it will easier to breathe deeply. You should if you can try and walk at least three times a week and build your distance up as you go. Good luck and I know you can do it.
