Friday, starting about 2 hrs post-work out

Carrot juice, unsweetened (to die for, best thing on list)
12 huge strawberries over the course of the evening
Marie Callenders Salisbury steak, green beans, mac n chz (box meal)
2 Philly cheesecake bars
7 Pepprige Farm Brussels Mint cookies

Saturday
Philly chz cake bar
2 eggs
1 smokie link

4 strawberries
8 cherries

8 pc california roll sushi (I LOVE wasabi!)

Headed to my folks' for dinner - will probably be burgers on the grill and sweet corn. I'll probably go no bun, no dessert, but I'll eat some corn. For me, the carb-up is basically over. Mine is short to be sure I hit ketosis again by monday.

Comments are welcome.

Cheers,

Friday

The cheesecake bars, the smokie, and was seems to be a relative LACK of carbs concerns me, as a CKD carb up is virtually ALL carbs with moderate protein and a touch of fat.

I am at the end of a long day, and I am tired, so maybe I missed something in the post ... forgive me if I did ...

Yeah, I was looking at that myself. :( Carb up has become difficult for me. The whole bread-sugar-pasta realm has become VERY unappealing to me taste-wise. I just don't want those foods anymore.

I did eat sweet corn, cake and the buns on the burgers at Dad's, and I had real lemonade.

I guess next week I'll try more for the pancake and pasta route. :)

Thanks for the comments. Every scrap of info and feedback helps!

Cheers,

Friday

This is part of the reason I'm on a 'TKD'. The 'carb-up' 's for me- was nothing but a nuisance. Not to mention the fact that when I finally got my hands on some carbohydrates- I throw all macronutrient ratio's out the window (bring on 'da goods' I say). Anyways, if you want to utilize the 'CKD' at it's best- you've GOT to structure your 'carb-up' and be very meticulous about it.

Zeus is right, come on guys. The carb up portion of these diets is crucial. I have learned the hard way one too many times. I mean you can get away with a half ass carb up and not get to fat, on the other hand think of all the muscle you could be retaining or better yet GAINING with a proper carb up. If youre satisfied with the results, all the power to ya. If not, you gotta do what you gotta do! I mysef had a bad week this week. too many calories mon.- fri., and yes ahalf ass carb up for the weekend. now I have 5 more weeks to reach 5%. Tuff sleddin.
any way thats enough of that. Too much MCT oil = TOO much energy!!!!! :p

I've been on a CKD for a month now, but I've only done one carb up. I'm doing a carb-up this weekend for 30 hours.

I will start friday night and finish saturday night. This is my plan:

workout sunday morning then some cardio sunday night
workout monday night
cardio tuesday, wednesday morning
rest thrusday
depletion workout friday night
repeat cycle.

Is this reasonable or should I be resting on sunday, bearing in mind I won't be carbing up on sunday???

Sounds like a decent plan. Sunday you should be well carbed up, so it wouldnt be a bad time to hit the weights. Then some cardio sun nite should help you reach ketosis again. Good luck. Be sure to post the results.

Thanks randy, will keep you posted.

I basically want to keep losing fat and I guess I'll increase the length of my carb up until it stops me from losing or if it keeps me out of ketosis too long!

Just dont rely on the bathroom scale as a tool to stop carbing up. You probably already figured that, but most people freak when they see their weight shoot up.

tru! My aim is to put on about 4-5 kilos by the end of the carb-up, that way I know I've filled my muscles with glycogen. I then compare weight/body fat the next friday.

Ok, here's a hopefully better carb-up. This is the first 24 hrs - dinner Friday to just before dinner Sat. I'll eat a high carb dinner tonight, then go back to 20 g carbs Sun morn.

Total: 3037
Fat: 67 604 21%
Sat: 26 236 8%
Poly: 11 102 3%
Mono: 22 197 7%
Carbs: 551 1809 61%
Fiber: 98 0 0%
Protein: 133 532 18%

The foods:

A real Pepsi
spaghetti with red sauce
several slice garlic toast (easy on the butter)
1/2 cup ice cream
7 jelly beans
handful of animal crackers
Kool aid with white sugar

Fiber One cereal with milk
coffee with milk and sugar
more spaghetti
more kool Aid
an Otter Pop (popsicle)
Ham n chz sammich (no mayo)
carton of lowfat yogurt

and one protein shake to pop the prot back where it needed to be

According to my printout, I was really close on fat/protein, but about 50 g low on carbs. If I hadn't eaten a high-fiber cereal, I'd have hit the carbs a little better. I suppose I could go have a Coke....? Actually, I haven't had the shake yet, so I can add sugar there, and maybe have some more jelly beans, LOL.

Cheers,

Friday

Looks like an improvement to me. Keep up the good work.

P.S. - Where's the 'Cinnamon Toast Crunch'?! :spin:

LOL, Actually, I had real cinnamon-sugar toast instead and I thought of you. Also noticed a big ol tub of Twizzlers on the juice bar at the gym and wondered if the "Twizzler handshake" is part of the whole secret bodybuilder society thing. :D

Finished my carb up last night and this morning, I weighed in with only an extra 3 kilos. Can someone tell me if this is enough, considering I have about 77 Kg LBM. I just don't feel like its enough???

It seems like a substantial gain of weight to me. Anyways, don't get too worked up over the scale. The purpose of the 'carb-up' is to supercompensate the muscles (and replenish glycogen stores)- it's not a 'lets see how much weight I can gain' period.

Trainerdan
Mon, Jul-15-02, 22:22
3 kilos is about right.

It's my typical gain from supercomp (6 lbs) ... well except for this weekend anyway. Only got 2 lbs, and I was carbbing like mad. Hmmmmmm ....

Zeus

Hmm, I'm actually going to 'carb-up' this weekend (I'm taking a little break from the 'TKD'). I've been following a 'SKD' basically for the past few weeks. I'm READY for that 'carb-up'. I just have to make sure I detail it and make sure it's PERFECT. Dan, HELP ME, I need a 'carb-up' detailed for me or something. I really can't afford to have any fat spill-over at this point...

low fat poptarts
gummy orange slices
Fiber One cereal
english muffins
Ham n chz sandwich
Kettle corn
Mac n chz
pizza
few bites of non-fat ice cream

I rationed fat pretty carefully to leave room for the pizza. This *totally* reminds my of Susan Powter, except on her deal you could only have 10 g fat - or maybe it was 20. I used to go through a six-pack of bagels in a DAY. I tracked cals back then and I could do 2500 cals at 160 lbs and not gain. I wasn't losing either, of course, exept probably muscle because it's pretty hard to get any protein on only 10 g of fat!

6:10 pm and the carb headache hit about half an hour ago. :P Guess that means I did it right, cuz I never got them before...

Cheers,

Friday

I got 2.5Kg ~ 7lbs, this carb up. Considering I ate 1400g + of carbs in 24 hours, I didn't think this was that much...I know what you said zeus, I guess I should be happy I could eat that much and not gain a huge amount...

I finally had a 'carb-up' day yesterday. I don't even know how many carbohydrates I ate; fat intake was minimal though (under 60 grams). I had:
-Pancakes with syrup
-Fat-Free ice cream
-'Pull n' Peel' Twizzlers
-Entemanns FAT-FREE danish (it was so damn good)
-Lucky Charms
-Cinnamon Toast Crunch (of course)
-Oatmeal
-Low-fat Pop Tarts

-I basically spent the day in a sugar induced coma or taking a crap... ahh, I love carbohydrates.

Oh God, that is a funny message. Sugar induced coma indeed. The Entemanns danish has just been added to my menu for next week, thanks for that one, I think the fat free Ice Cream also will make it on there. My roomate though I was a total freak (bedies my eating habits during the week) when I started my carb up yesteday with 4 bowls of CApt' Crunch, then when I couldn't eat anymore, I took 3 scoops of my creatine, which is 410 calories, all super-sugars, with ALA, Glut, ext.... I almost puked for like 30 min, then fell fast, fast asleep.

-When I'm doing a 'carb-up' my family/friends are usually quick to point out what I'm eating; typically, I have this conversation with a family member or friend every time I 'carb-up':

-Friend: 'I thought you were on a low-carb diet'...
-Me: 'I am.'
-Friend: 'then why are you eating carbohydrates?'
-Me: 'It's part of the diet.'
-Friend: 'Umm, I don't get it.'
-Me: *Explains the science/importance of 'carbing-up' in mind numbing detail*
-Friend: 'Ahh, I see, that makes sense.'
-Me: 'You didn't understand a word I said, did you?'
-Friend: 'Nope, no I didn't.'
-Me: 'Leave me alone with my Cinnamon Toast Crunch... BE-GONE HEATHEN!'

Side note- do you ever notice that when people know you're on a 'diet'- it becomes a topic of conversation over and over and over again (usually when you're eating something they’ll ask 'Is that allowed on the diet?' etc. etc. etc.).
