This is directed to the experts :)
I clicked on a link that I found in this forum, outlining ketogenic diets for beginners. One thing that was mentioned on the page was that:

******
Fruits are to be avoided as fructose will only refill liver glycogen which will prevent ketosis from being reestablished until later in the week.
******

Is this accurate?
Does this mean I should avoid all fruits and fruit juices during the carb up stage?
I was hoping to avoid grains when I started my CKD and use fruit as a good substitute.

Any information/help is really appreciated!!
Thanks
Meg

Yes, definitely avoid fruit during the low carb phase of a ckd for obvious reasons. As for the carb up phase, eating fruit will make it much more difficult for you to get into ketosis the following week. If you're on a 7 day ckd, you don't have much time and fructose will only slow you down.

It is true. If you choose to use fruit, you better be ready to go "full out" on Monday morning cardio (super intense intervals), as well as Monday night's weight training session.

When you hit the low-carb phase Monday, be sure to stick to the Monday rules outlined in BO:

virtually no carbs, high fat, moderate protein.

I use some fruit on the weekends, but not much. I hit ketosis by Monday night, without fail.

I say forget about the fruit. There's a bunch of other things I'd rather eat than fruit anyways (on the carb-up). If you must have your fruit- consume it early on in the carb-up and eat very modest amounts.

I'm eating fruit this weekend, but I plan to pretty much kill myself on Monday and take my lo-carb to pretty much fat-fast levels. I pretty much always hit ketosis by Sunday night anyway. Then again, the fruit I'm talking about is strawberries and cherries which aren't very high. :)

I'll post my carb up and when I hit ketosis if anyone's interested.

Cheers,

Friday

FYI - the fruit in my last carb-up did slow down my ketosis. I had some cherries, about a lb and a half of strawberries, a peach and carrot juice - which may or may not count. I usually hit ketosis Sunday night, having ended the carb up at dinner on Sat. It's Monday, I did my AM cardio and my weight training and I'm just barely registering a trace right now. (Didn't check earlier in the day, tho.)

Cheers,
