" The rice diet -- a low-calorie, low-protein,
high-carbohydrate plan consisting mainly of rice, fruits and
vegetables -- emerged in 1939 as a nutrition program for the
treatment of high-blood pressure, diabetes and kidney
problems. "

I think there is more to the story then is being presented in
the article. Almost like Duke found something wrong with the
diet and wanted to be disassociated from it.

Time will tell, Kathy

No wonder they did, it is not a balanced diet for anyone.
Protein is needed for a good diet. All diets to lose weight
are based on calories in calories out, just some are better
then others. There is no miracle food that will cause you to
lose weight just limiting calories and exercise that will work
to keep it off for good. Roxan "The Smiths"

One of the things that is wrong is that it is poison for
Celiacs and folks with IBD and Ulcerative colitis.

People entered the program who were hundreds of pounds
overweight (400,500,600lbs in most cases), and were brought
down to their correct weight. This worked for virtually all
the people who entered the program. Some ladies went in huge,
came out looking like models, and then showed up a year later
huge again.

I don't remember that part. I didn't talk about the means, I
mentioned that it was successful. Pizza shops and Deli places
also would not deliver to the rice campus. Media blows up
things that may have been nothing.

When will people learn, life style change, life style
change, ...

When I gave up eating cookies for snacks I knew it only
mattered if I did it for the rest of my life. What it takes is
the belief that your health is more important than the very
transient pleasure of a cookie. In general I feel better all
the time now than a cookie would make me feel for a short
while before.

Don't need to lose weight quickly if your making a permanent
change, it will eventually settle to some new set point on its
own. The tricky part for me is keeping eating and exercise in
balance, how much more should you eat for a nice long hike.
I've so far found that I really have to pig out while hiking
(2000+ calories during an 8 hour hike over hills) and even
then have to pig out more afterwards. But do that when not
hiking and you will be putting on pounds per week.

Spend a lot of money too, no doubt.

God knows how much it costs now.
