I bought L-glutamine capsules, 500 mg each.

Being metric-ly challenged, could someone tell me how that computes to 20-40 grams/day?

Does 1 gram = 1000 or 100 mgs? auggghh

Also, I noticed most people seem to be using the powdered form, are the L-glutamine caps the same?

(the woman at the health food store said the "L" means it comes from a "natural" source--is this true?)

500 mg = 1/2 gram
1 gram = 1000 mg
20 grams would be 40 pills a day!!!

Yikes!!

That's why most people take the powdered form. It delivers 5 grams per heaping teaspoon, which you can mix in with any drink and barely taste it....not unpleasant at all.

I don't know about the "L" question.

On the "L" question:

There are two forms of amino acids, d and l .. which refers to the direction or "twist" of the DNA spiral of the molecule ... d = dexter = to the right .... l = levus = to the left. The proteins of animal and plant tissue are made up of the L-forms of amino acids (with the exception of phenylalanine, which has both d- and l- molecules). Thus, the l-forms are considered to be most compatible with human biochemistry.

The d-forms of amino acids are most often seen in bacteria and in antibiotic drugs.

Thank you both for the info.

I think I'll see if I can exchange this for the powder tomorrow (I didn't break the seal)

The granular would be a much better deal.

The yummiest way to get glutamine is Isopure Protein Powder in the Dutch Chocolate flavor with I believe 4.3 g glutamine per serving. The flavor is close to Nestles Quik.

:doah: . o O (Doh!)

I did the exact same thing today: I went to the drug store for glutamine, but forgot to check the forum to see which brands or formats were preferred. (I trust y'all's opinion. ;) ) I didn't have enough money for the little bucket of powder, so I thought the 500 mg tablets would suffice. Oh well: I guess I'll be popping pills like a teacher on the last day of school.
