Hi Jennifer.

Your start weight and goal weight are about the same as mine. That's so cool..

I'm taking mine one pound at a time. I'm a slow loser. I make mini goals, like right now I'm wanting to be below 250 by my birthday, I might have messed that up with going back to regular eating over vacation and gaining 5 pounds in August. I'm still giving it my best shot. I will have to lose 7 pounds in 5 weeks. It's possible since I'm so gung ho right now.

I re-did Atkins induction and did it right, I lost 3 pounds the first week, 2 pounds the 2nd week and 1 this last week. I upped my carbs to 30 a week but I'm avoiding sugar free/splenda whatever stuff until the first of the year. I do use splenda in my coffee and I drink diet soda's so I do get some. If I lose at least 5 pounds in October I will continue this until my weight is gone... hopefully with out too many slip ups. I'm planning on being below 175 by my 50th birthday which is in 2 years and about 5 weeks.

Good luck to you.

My darling terrier, Emily, died on January 25th in my husband's arms with her best sister/friend, Priscilla, poodle leaning up against her and me kissing her nose and stroking her. I am devastated by her loss. My motivation is zero. At first I couldn't eat anything, now I am constantly hungry. I have a pain in my stomach almost 24 hours a day. I seem to be crying all the time. My sweet Priscilla is so busy kissing away my tears. She is taking over some of Emily's behavoir...watching out for me when I go out the front door to deposit trash in the receptacle. She stays close to me all the time. I don't know who needs who more :tears:

I'm trying to heal, but don't know how. I'm writing about her all the time. I even wrote an article for my community newspaper. I wrote a thank you letter to The Amanda Foundation for bringing her into our lives. I talk to her every day...she is buried in our backyard under the lemon tree, where she would love to sit on the cool grass.

I'm trying to get it all out...but there is more than you can imagine.

Thanks for listening.

Love & Light,
Pink :tears:

Hugs. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss:( It's hard to lose a member of the family and you are obviously grieving. You might think about some grief counselling to get you through this difficult time. Blessings to you and your family. Hugs.

Thank you, Mr. E, but she was more than a friend...she was my child. I have four two-legged children who never gave me what my two four-legged children have. Priscilla and Emily have taught me the true meaning of unconditional love.

Hi
I also have 100+ pounds to lose. So far I've lost 35 on Atkins but fell off the wagon. So now I'm starting over. I'm currently at 220 and my goal is 120. Good luck to all and I hope to keep the support going.

I started at 250, then got down to 170. I'm about 190 now, after falling off the wagon, losing a bit and gaining back some more. My goal weight is 150. When I lost the first 80 pounds, I had a momentum going. Then I hit a plateau that lasted a long time. Christmas and depression threw me off the wagon and since then I've been able to lose a bit here and there, but keep falling off the wagon. I stopped working out on a regular basis. I go to the gym occasionally and try to get some walking exercise every day but I don't have the strength and energy I had before. I need to get motivated again, and stick with it. Is there anyone with advice for me? I'm not currently low carbing but I'm trying to stay around 190. I'll be back on low carb in a couple weeks. Any advice and support would be appreciated. Hugs to everyone:)

My long term goal is to loose 180lbs. I am already feeling much better. I am setting mini goals of 10%, so I am closing in on my first goal. Can't wait to get a few month in.

I have lost 125 pounds and have been stuck wavering between 214 and 206. I want to break that 200 pound mark. I have been able to do so many things that I could never do before. And people react so differently to me now. I don't always know how to handle the new me. It has taken about 4 years losing about 30 pounds a year, slow progress... I have about 30 to 40 to go to get to my goal weight. I can't wait!! Stress and depression knocked me for a loop last year. But I did a lot of things last year I've never done before, skiing, hiking, biking, mountain climbing, dancing. I am so excited. Keep on going, keep on going!!

I've got quite a LOT to lose left... I try not to think about the exact number though because it just seems so astronomical.

Up and down, up and down, up up up. :(

My current long-term goal is to lose 140 pounds. As of today, however, I have set a goal of 25 pounds.

It is hard to believe that I only needed to lose 15 pounds on my first diet. Truth be told, I didn't really need to lose weight as much as I needed a good exercise program. How differently things might have turned out. While exercise alone might not have reduced me by those desired 15 pounds, it would have changed the shape of my body and infused me with the confidence I needed to maintain a lifetime of healthy weight and body image. But exercise wasn't the focus then -- I was always told to lose the fat first so the fat didn't "turn into muscle." So I'd lose a little, but then I would gain it back with interet. Each time I went on a subsequent diet, I started from a higher weight. I find it ironic that I dieted myself up to a top weight of 282. I am sure I'm not the only one here.

I just can't look at a 100+ pounds to lose because it is so overwhelming and helps me rationalize, convince myself that it's too far to go, I'll never reach my goals, I may as well stay fat.

So 25 pounds to lose. Anyone who is interested can help keep me accountable and visit my quest. I'm on Day 1! http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=235396

You want to lose 100 pounds by October... that sounds like a lot of weight in a short amount of time. A more realistic goal might be 10 pounds a month, which is about 70 pounds. If you lose too much too quickly you'll end up putting it back on, as I have. I think BadgerGirl has the right idea, starting with managable goals. Some months you might only lose 5 pounds, some you might lose 12 or 15. This site provides a really great support network so keep up the good work:) Hugs and congratulations on your engagement!

I'm coming here to recommit. I will begin again on August 16th. I haven't decided which plan to go with...but will be thinking about it alot until then and investigating. I will not start a plan, I know I can't live with. This is for the long haul...it must be something liveable for me.

I have begun rehersals with my water intake...one step at a time :)

The way I look at it is that I've got to lose 135-140 lbs and if it takes 2-3 yrs so be it. I mean this is something that I've got to do for life. You never go off the diet. Back in 1987, I went from 260 to 160 lbs in one year doing the low fat thing and boy was it painful! I was always so hungary I couldn't think straight. After 17 yrs I was back up to 325 lbs! So much for low fat. Now I know that you can never go back to eating like before. This time I'm going low carb and sticking with it.

Kevinm;

If you will only do low carb and I mean really do it, you can loose the weight in a healthy way, in only a few months. I lost 160 pounds in 9 months and I kept all but 11 pounds off for the last two years and I did it easily. I've never be healthier by the way, my doctor is now a belever.

Anybody still post here.

I used to, but haven't seen it for awhile. I used to have to lose over 100, but now if I keep my goal at 165, then I don't anymore. If I change it some day to 150, then maybe. In the beginning it was 127. I'm still work in progress. 2 years I've been at it and I'm down 40. Slow as a turtle but sure as a ???

I had about 135lbs to lose when I started this journey last January, I still have to shed about 55 of those lbs, maybe 65lbs if I decide to go to 150 :)

We have similar stats, Cheryl...how tall are you? I'm 5'10". I also want to lose just a little more than a lb a week this year, so I reach goal by next January.

brpssm. I'm way shorter than you. 5'4". The rest of our stats are the same, I know the charts say my ideal weight is like 130, but I would be setting myself up for failure if I did that. I'm 49 years old, and to me, it's all about feeling healthier, and once I get 100 pounds off, I'll be happy, but I'll still shoot for the 165 and see how it feels and how I feel before I try to go any further. The last time I weighed under 165 I was 25 years old. OH.. and see the little pink female sympol on the right side of your post by your stats, move your mouse over it and you see how tall someone is.

Hi Carina I know what you mean about the clothes. I'm ready for a smaller size right now, but when I get a few pair of pants to last until my next size down, I will get them tight... it keeps me from eating too much when my pants are tight LOL... makes you want to get them looser, and how do you do that-- well by losing weight of course.

WE all can do this. I've read some sights on here with people who have lost 100 pounds and kept it off. When I have a bit of time I will give you all a few peoples journals to go to and talk to them...It's soooooo inspiring.

I know 2 people in person, not on computer who have lost over 100 and kept it off. (Actually one lost 208 and one lost about 170) they have both gained about 40 back and have maintained that way.... but they both had gastrick bypass. (I'm not knocking it, in both cases, they would not be here and alive today if they had not done it, and one of them is my dearest and closest friend... I can't imagine life with out her. She is also my #1 weight loss support guru.)

I know how you feel, even if I was to stay at the weight I am now and maintain that, I would be happy...clinically, I am very healthy. The only thing for me is that I find following this WOE relatively easy, so for the first time ever I feel like I CAN reach lower weights...even though I haven't been 160 since I was 14!

You're welcome. When they first put it there I automatically tried to click on it. LOL. I was like, this is new.

I've tried low carb before and stuck to it a whole year and felt so good, I still can't remember how I went off but it was at Christmas time.

11 days on induction and I feel wonderful... and I've lost about 6 pounds so far. I'm at my lowest weight in I think 8 years... I'm not 100% sure, but pretty sure.

Just found these boards after a long time away from lowcarbing. I haven't a clue how much I need to lose -- it's been so long since I saw a "1" in front of a number on the scale that I think we were hunting woolly mammoth then. I do know that it's over 100 pounds, and I'll be here for a while.

I wrote a long and boring intro post, so I won't replay it here. There are some psychological and philosophical things I want to work out, but I really need a community and some folks to play with while I remember how good I felt on lowcarb!

I've started once again. I am approaching with a different attitude. Last week, my first, I set a goal of five pounds. I lost 5.6! I have set a new goal of ten pounds. Tiny steps. I can't look at the whole picture...I must look at very small pieces. I can't be perfect. I have committed to drinking my daily water and eating more vegetables. Tiny steps. We all have to find our own level.

I wish you all well :rheart: May we all succeed. Tiny steps.

Hey there -

I just signed up, and have a long way to go....so thought I should give the TDC a try (total of 116 to lose), as thinking about how much there is to lose can be overwhelming. I'm setting baby goals for myself (10 lbs at a time), just to keep the motivation-achievement factor high. Today was my 5th day on Induction, and I'm down 8#. Why didn't I try this sooner?!

brpssm - we've got similar stats...pretty tall women by most people's standards, and looking for the 150 - 160 range. We WILL to be svelte again!

Hi everyone. New faces and some old too!!!

I'm on day 13 of induction... I did it totally right this time. I can't tell you how many times I've done it in the past and only lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks. I'm thinking that it's a good possibility when I weigh in on Sunday after all 14 days that I will see a 10 pound loss. In all the years I've been trying to lose weight, I've never lost 10 pounds in a month, much less 2 weeks.

I'm so excited. I've been on this thread I these forums for so many years and I've seen so many successes. I am so going to be one of them someday. I don't care how long it takes. I just want to get to my goal weight. But, for now, i'm taking it a pound a week... and this induction period has sure given me a huge jumpstart on the year.

Hi everyone. wow, there are people here again. So cool.
This has been my most successful year since I started trying and failing to lose weight. I think each time i've done low carb from Atkins induction on, I have a little more advantage. For me this time, I was already off the sweets, I had just started getting fruit and pasta and that kind of stuff into my daily eating again. Not that fruit is bad for some people on low carb, but for me, i don't lose when I'm eating it.
I started back on induction january 1st, had a hangover so I slep a lot. i had been up until 3 am anyway. I was more determined this time.

I can't drive myself crazy counting things, not even carbs, but I've done this so many times that I pretty much know what I can have and how much. I stay between 30 and 50 grams a day. I eat mostly meats and lots of veggies. Sometimes I slugg a little now with things like spaghetti sauce, I know it has hidden sugars, but sometimes having it over some ground hamburger is almost like having spaghetti. I don't do it often, but now and then.
I think I've really given up candy and all the really bad stuff for life.
I've found so many things that are treats to me that I actually look forward to and I guess something just snapped with me this year. I was actually low carbing from Aug thru November last year too, then in Sept I had a big crash... that was so hard to start again, but when I did, I went full force and I've lost 25 pounds since jan 1. As of yesterday it was exactly 25 pounds.

I'm rambling... i just do that sometimes. my fingers sometimes go faster than my brain. Especially when I don't care about type-o.

I wish you all luck.

And... Pink... awesome on the walking. I was swimming a lot in the beginning of the year. I have got to push myself to get going again. This lousy weather has been making me want to hypernate. I hate all this rain.

Hi everyone! Glad to see this thread is still active!!

I am in the middle of week 3 of induction. I am finding that i simply have to stay away from the lc products like Lc yogurt, Lc ice cream and even the aspartame. I have ruined my body and now will get cravings too bad to handle by eating anything besides regular food! This is making it more difficult to do atkins this time, but i am actually happy about this..because i think this time i am gonna kick the sweets for good! i feel so much better eating just the meat, fish, eggs, cheese, cream, butter and small amount of veggies. I do enjoy an atkins shake once a week and an atkins bar once a week. If i ever see that THEY are causing me problems, i will hae to quit them too! Anyone think its possible to just stay away from all sweet things forever? I hope it is! I just hate setting myself up for cravings! I had a craving earlier tonight and went and had some whipping cream straight from the carton, unwhipped..just a couple sips..it helped..lol...ok..im rambling..anyways..hi everyone!!

I have a lot to lose in so many ways. I weigh 347, I haven't been this heavy in so long. The first time I did Atkins I started at 380 and got down to 310, that was about 6 yrs ago. If you look at my profile you will see I have restarted so many times, each time a lil heavier. But yesterday seeing the scale at 347 I wanted to die. I don't want to be this fat any more :help: I hope to keep in touch with as many as want to!!!!!

I'm still here too! I've lost 1/2 of my 100 pounds I wanted to lose. for all you starting... I tried for so many years and couldn't seem to stick with it.

The longer you do low carb, the more of a habit it becomes.

I cannot explain how much better I feel with what weight I've lost so far. 60 down and about 60 to 80 to go.

I will not decide my perminent goal until I am well under 200. I know my goal won't be below 150 as I have not weighted that since I was 22 years old, before pregnancy. I got down to 155 when I was 23 when my daughter was less than an year old, but then creeped up a bit over time. My biggest gains were in my early 30's. Now I'll be 50 In Novermber and I want to have 1 as the first digit of my weight before then.

I strayed this week due to my Irish roots and St. patty's day and a big huge party, and such. I'm still down 25 for the year, so I've started induction once again. It always kicks me back into gear.

Hey Everyone -

Just wanted to say I have over 100 to lose as well. I agree with you Cheryl R, I wont know what my goal weight is either until I get closer to it. I'm 46 and havent been below 200 in gosh about 16 years or more.

This whole last year I have been pretty much maintaining a 30lb loss, I gained some back over xmas but got started back the first of the year and now I am down about 25lbs. I dont ever remember losing this much this fast in the past and boy is it exciting. I feel for the first time in my life that I just might lose ALL this weight instead of the same 30 over and over.

I wish everyone here good luck and happy low carbing!!!

I lost 37 or so in 2004, maintained it in 2005 with a 15 pound up then back down at the end of the year to break even. Then since jan 1 I've lost 25 pounds.

Soooo cool.

I'm walking two miles a day, six times a week with Lesley Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds! Last week I added the weights and felt an immediate difference. The first night I felt as though I had monkey arms, but it wore off and they're back to normal...but feeling good.

Exercise makes such a difference...I'm thinking of adding more...perhaps some resistance training. I have one of those rubber bands from Richard Simmons...must check how to use it properly. You know...I ordered it a million years ago and never used it...still in the original box.

Feeling motivated :wiggle:
