Hi!
My mom bought and sent me some Soy Protein Powder and I'm looking at the label and I can't figure out if it is the stuff I can use or not. I'm hoping that someone can help. It is made by Webber Naturals, and it is just called "Soy Protein" and under that it says "graranteed Isoflavone Content" and "no artificial sweetners and choleserol-free" it also says "non GMO, but I don't know what that means.
On the ingredients it lists for a 1/3 cup serving size:
soy protein powder 28g
prohydroxy P 280 mg (prohydroxy is said to be made up of protease I and protease II, peptizyme SP, Lactase and Amylase in a base of malto dextrin)
Soy Bean Extract 85 mg (and adds, this extract provides genistein, daidzein, glycitein isoflavones at 37 mg.
The suggested use for this stuff is to blend with juice or beverage or to make a smooth healthy shake to mix it with crushed ice, juice and or fruit. I was hoping to try some lo carb pancake recipies or something with this stuff, but I'm not sure if it is the right kind, or if some how it may be loaded with carbs. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Mari,
Does the package contain how much carb is there? From the sounds of it, is seems low-carb, but it's better to know how much of it is there. Was is a natural flavour or a flavoured one?

The package does not say how much carb, does not break it down at all into carbs. I was wondering about that myself, that is why I listed the ingredients out, because I was thinking that maybe something in there was another name for a carb filled item. Like for example the basic thing, "soy protein powder" that is all it says. I keep hearing others refer to "whey" protein and I think there was another jar of this stuff called Whey protein, but she bought the soy protein. So I guess my main question is whether soy protein is ok? I know beans in general are high in protein, but also high in carbs, so is it the same for soy?
It is "Natural" flavour, no additional flavoring added by the way. also says no aspartame or acesulfame K on the label.

Soy protein powder is definitly o.k. It's isolated (protein extract) so sit should be low in carb, but not always zero carb. If it has an 800# you might call to ask for the info. But it is low-carb.
Whey protein is o.k. too, better tasting even.

:D I mix soy protein powder with un-chlorinated water every morning and drink it quick. Hold the nose and don't take a breath until it's down. This week it's vanilla! I've tried chocolate in two or three different forms, but found them to be stronger than the vanilla. I don't mix it with juice or milk because of the carbs and found that a quick 8 oz glass of water goes down just as easy. I can tell the difference when I don't drink it for a day or two. The amino acids in it are the best benefit that I've found so far in the way they are dispersed. I think the soy protein drink has really helped me along with my weight loss. It adds just enough more to my regular breakfast of cold ham and a chunk of sharp cheddar to keep me all morning.

The soy powder should be fine as a low carb drink carbwise.... lol but tastewise??? Well that's for you to decide. I HATE the taste of soy and love the taste of the Whey powders.

I'm glad that I discovered this thread as soy protein powder completely eliminated my hot flashes. However now that I'm low carbing, Ive temporarily quit it. I would buy it in bulk at Winco Foods here in Idaho and when I get back there I think the label on the bin might list the carbs. I used to whip it with a banana, oj and ice and yogurt--which are all not possible now--but perhaps v8 splash, ice and protein powder might do.~~bella

You can use whipping cream and water as a mixer + some other flavouring. Just be careful not to overmix it or you'll end up with bits of butter.
