Hi Tanya,
How are you doing? I didn't cheat either - I considered having a drink but decided I'd rather have a loss.

Good for you Summer :). Drinking is one thing I can live without for a loooooong time. Doesn't bother me a bit.

Same here - no loss - no cheats....Big time stall going on. I HATE THAT.
I have noticed that kinda sculped look starting to happen around my lower thigh area and my shoulders and uppper arms - gotta love that!!
I cut my hair over the weekend - I needed a change - it was down to my waist (well it actually still is) but I gave it some really fun layers for some bounce and texture instead of being all one length - I adore it - may even take it a little shorter - I just needed a change.

Hi Corrie :), hi Rhonda :). I was wom=ndering where you girls were today.
Corrie, changing your hair is fun. Up until about a year ego mine was long and there is only so much you can do with long hair, so one day I got a bug up my ass and cut it all off. I love it, it is just above my sholders and all layered, I love it. So bouncy and full. Have fun with it Corrie.
Rhonda, get back on track and quit cheating girl, or I'll beat you silly :).

I am back on track.....I just hate myself....I think the paxil is making me hungry.....my nerves have been shot too...I am falling apart...

Mon, Jul-22-02, 10:58
Rhonda, it could be the pail, but you have to remember one thing. You, and only you are in CONTROL of what goes into your mouth. If paxil is making you hungry, then eat, just eat legal food, nit junk. And please don't fall apart, you can get through this girl, I know you can.

Mon, Jul-22-02, 10:59
Rhonda,
I don't know anything about Paxil - but don't hate yourself!!! :)
You are trying, that's what you need to focus on. This is a lifelong change - it's going to take time.

You will not gain if you eat right. I ate like a pig, I am still taking paxil and I lost 57 lbs, so there. If you need it, take it, but eat right. You'll be ok, just hang in there.

Its so hard to stick with sometimes.....but I feel better today now that I am back on track.....

Mon, Jul-22-02, 13:24
It really made a difference for me because I decided that I was ready for this change. I have rtied several time bafore, didn't stick with it, was not ready, but once I made up my mind, that was it. And Rhonda, don't get me wrong, I fell off the wagon several time, planned cheats too. I just always got back on right away, not in a day or two, but NOW.

Mon, Jul-22-02, 13:26
Just thought I'd add my 2 cents... It makes me feel better that it took Tanya and Corrie a year to lose so much. Sometimes I feel like this is taking forever... When I get closer to my goal I probably won't feel like it took a long time - but waiting to get there is painfully slow!
For now I am just focusing on getting under 200 and even that seems a looooong way off.

Summer - you will get there. You seem to have alot of willpower!
Rhonda
Corrie
Mon, Jul-22-02, 13:34
Its the same for me - you have to be ready - you have to have the mind set. I have cheated possibly 3 times since march and ALL my cheats are planned.
The first 40 pounds come off quick and easy then things will slow way down. You may end up losing 2 - 5 pounds per month on your last 25 pounds or so - and that's ok - that's just the way it works.
This is NOT a diet for me - I don't even think of it in that way anymore and haven't for a long time. This is how I eat. This is how I live. That is how you have to think. My niece lost almost 40 pounds on this diet a while back - she is 15 and looked really good - she is putting it all back on 1 week at a time ...I asked her why she was eating garbage again and she said "cause she doesn't do the "diet" any more". I told her the same thing....and then said you had better get back to that way of eating of you're going to have this problem your whole life.
I am not tempted because I plainly and simply will not put that crap in my body.
Corrie
Mon, Jul-22-02, 13:36
Summer - it took me a year to lose the whole 87 pounds last time - but like I said the first 40 came off quick the next 20 came off in about 2 months - then the last 27 pounds came off at about 5 per month - so the substantial part of the lost doesn't have to take a long time....
sydneyalex
Mon, Jul-22-02, 13:39

Rhonda,
I don't have willpower - what works for me is that I really want to be thinner. AND - and this is a big AND, I never feel hungry on the WOE.
If I'm hungry I eat a LC snack. I don't have any carbs in my house.
I've tried lowfat diets and have never been able to stick to them because I always felt hungry.

Corrie,
I've been doing this about as long as you. I only "cheated" last week. I've never lost quickly. I know I lose slow - and I know everyone is different - I just wish I could lose faster. But at least I am not miserable doing this.
I also agree that this has to be a way of life. I can't imagine ever going back to the way I used to eat. I just feel so much better now. I know once I get to my goal I will not allow myself to be in this position again.

Like Corrie, I lost the 40 lbs really fast, but now I have stalled for several months. I don't care, if I don't loose another pound, I still will never go back to the way I was eating before. I will have an ocational cheat, planned I hope, but right back on LC next meal. Notice, I didn't say the next day, I said nexr MEAL.

Morning ladies, I am royally pissed today. I thought working out makes you loose wieght, not gain. I gained another pound this morning :Puke:. Hate it, but I keep telling myself.....it will come off, it will come off, it will come off....well, you get the drift.
Corrie
Tue, Jul-23-02, 09:15
I HATE when that happens.
How much water are you drinking????
I was reading in somebodys journal (a mentor) that sometimes she will take a week of from exercising to kinda like throw her body a curve ball - to shake things up a bit....try that for a few days - while possibly eating high fat foods (macadamia nuts, cream cheese, meat etc..... no carbs at all except what are in those foods for a few days.....
Tanyaskees
Tue, Jul-23-02, 09:19
I don't want to do that yet, since I have only been working out for 2 weeks. I think it is too soon to be taking time off. I don't work out every day anyway, 4 times a week. I do drink tons of water, at leat 100 oz. a day, usually more. It really sucks.

Good morning Rhonda,
Glad to hear that you are back on track.
Corrie,
I saw your post about the vitamins from yesterday. I take a multi and I have been taking the Atkins weight loss vitamins. But I read an article about GTF chronium and I am going to start taking that - I ordered it online - just waiting for the delivery.
Tanya,
I am OK - STILL no loss for me. I have been exercising and watching what I'm eating since I got back from vacation. I want to see a loss - but I am still glad that I didn't gain from my cheats on vacation. BTW - I read yours and Corrie's post from yesterday - I like to drink and I love ice cream. That's what I cheated on - BOTH - gee, that must be why I haven't had a loss.
Summer
Tanyaskees
Tue, Jul-23-02, 10:02
Not gaining while on vacation is a BIG thing, I would have gained 10 pounds :). The loss will come, just hang in there.
Corrie
Tue, Jul-23-02, 10:03
Ok - I am having water problems - I mean as in retaining it. My hand constantly hurt and my rings are tight.
I know my gains are not due to a cheat - cause I dont. But like I said - I haven't really gained - just haven't lost.
The same 2 - 3 pounds come and go. So I know it's water...Here are the possible causes....
Could the problem be that our insulin levels are too high from something stupid we are doing?
Coffee/caffeine stilmulates insulin - insulin stops weight loss and causes water retention.
I have been having 2 cups of real coffee in the morning to shake off the xanex i have been taking to sleep at night. ( I have really crappy things going on that make it impossible to sleep etc...Husband possibly dying, etc.....)
so - I need to cut out the coffee again.
What about you? any excess coffee, tea, diet drinks?
I have also found that the bottled sparkling water I get at Wallmart/Sam's club is flavored with Nutra Sweet - My body doesn't like Nutra sweet - I cut that out (I was bummed - I like those)
Are we getting enough veggies?? I know I am not. Are you?
Are we getting enough protein?
Are you eating enough fat?
Are you taking your vitamins?
This could be muscle as Summer stated - I told you before it takes 6 weeks to build a new muscle - and you are at 4 - so the process is well on it's way. Also remember that if your muscles are torn (as they get when you exercise) they will retain water to help repair the muscle and increase mass. And we all know muscle weighs more than fat....
What about getting enough fiber?
Anything else
Can you think of anything you have changed at all - r u eating anything different??? You may possibly have a food allergu to something - that's why I suggest keeping a food log.
Anything else???
Corrie
Tue, Jul-23-02, 10:06
Morning Miss Rhonda!
NO MORE CHEATING!!!
summer10
Tue, Jul-23-02, 10:08
I have to admit I have 1/2 cup of coffee every morning. And sometimes in the afternoon I have an ice coffee - it helps me have energy to exercise when I get home. I love Dunkin Donuts ice coffee - I don't think I can give it up. When I first started Atkins I tried giving up caffeine and I had a bad headache - that's why I have the 1/2 cup in the morning - that and I like it. I have just about given up the diet coke - I probably have less than 1 a week.
Summer
Corrie
Tue, Jul-23-02, 10:34
Summer - what is in that iced coffee?
Real cream? Sweetner??
Make sure they are using Real cream and not nutra sweet.
That could be another problem ladies...
Is there to much NutraSweet/Equal in your diet???
Tanyaskees
Tue, Jul-23-02, 10:37
Ok, lets see, I going to try to answer these one at a time, let me know if Imissed something. Here goes:
Coffee - 2 cups a day w/cream, no sweetner..
no tea, no diet drinks
Water is all I EVER drink.
Are we getting enough veggies?? NO
Are we getting enough protein? Yes
Are you eating enough fat? Yes
Are you taking your vitamins? Yes
What about getting enough fiber? Yes, taking psyllium for fiber.
summer10
Tue, Jul-23-02, 10:37
Corrie,
I have cream in my iced coffee. I don't use sweeteners in my coffee.
Although, I did try the mock danish and I did use Splenda in that. Atkins recommends Splenda - do you think it's NOT ok to have that? I don't use it very often.

I never eat veggies...maybe a salad once a week...how much veggies do we need? And what are the best sources of protein?
I dont drink coffee, thank god.....Corrie - what is up with your husband (if you dont mind me asking) ??
I had sugar free jello last nite - no carbs...is that ok...
Summer - what is GTF chronium?
Rhonda
summer10
Tue, Jul-23-02, 10:49
Rhonda -
I can answer the veggie question - on induction you should be having 3 cups of veggies. Either 3 cups of salad or 2 cups of salad and 1 cup of low carb veggies (measured raw). You have to eat your veggies - you must not be getting enough vitamins if you don't - also you wouldn't be getting enough fiber
GTF chronium is glucose tolerance factor chromium. It is supposed to be better for weight loss than chromium picolate.

NO NO NO!!! :nono: Rhonda - HERE IS WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO:
You put that book on your night stand. EVERY NIGHT BEFORE YOU GO TO SLEEP YOU READ THAT BOOK. I don't care if it is 1 page or 10 or a whole chapter. When you get to the end start it again. When you have done this for a while everything in that book will be stamped into your subconcious (sp) as well as your waking mind!! It will give you inspiration that carrys you thru the next day - your brain will process the information while you sleep. Soon you'll be as fast as I am to quote it. And more important soon it will be a way of life rather than just a diet.
I am serious - do this for me - you wondered where I get my willpower and determination (besides the fact that I am simply a hard headed stubborn B~!$&.) - now you know......

It's amazing that you are able to stay focused, to work, to take care of your health and still provide support for your family. You must be a really strong person.

I am just new here to this WOE and this support forum...have read some of the previous postings as far back as a month and you all seem like a great bunch!!! I messed up and had a beer today not realizing that it was 13 carbs (geez) but thanks to corries previous posting got all the correct info.now I am curious...how long will it take for the effects of the evil beer to wear off and return to fat burning.any ideas? thanks!

Thanks Summer ...Hope you feel better Rhonda....Sorry about your hours.
I think I have had enough for the day. That's why I don't really talk about it - I get really upset.
Tomorrow is a holiday (pioneer day - the day the great mormon leader stopped in the middle of the salt lake valley and said "this is the place") in this stupid state so I won't be here tomorrow. The whole friggin state shuts down.....
You guys have a great day.

Welcome. The alcohol will burn off. It will just slow your weight loss. If you are going to drink beer, drink Miller Light, it has the lowest carbs.

Here is a link to the Carb Addicts website that answers questions about GTF Chromium:
http://www.carbohydrateaddicts.com/glucose.html

Tue, Jul-23-02, 17:40
The Hellar's book states: "The benefits of GTF chromium may begin to show within one to two months. However, long before you notice the difference, you body will already be responding to this often much-needed nutrient."
They recommend Solgar's GTF Chromium, 200 mcg. I ordered some from Vitaminshoppe.com - they say not to accept brands that add other things to the chromium. They also recommend taking it without food.

Here is some info from the Heller's book about magnesium - I thought you guys might be interested:
"Do you have signs of Magnesium Deficiency?
A magnesium deficiency can produce any of the following symptoms:
agitation or anxiety
muscle weakness
anemia
cold hands and feet
confusion or disorientation
depression
heart rhythm disturbances (incl rapid heartbeat)
high or low BP
hyperactivity
irritability
loss of balance while walking
loss of hair
muscle weakness
nausea
nervousness
numbness and tingling
restless leg syndrome
restlessness
seizures
spasm
stomach upset
subnormal body temp
tremors or twitching
vertigo
weakness
If you have any of these symptoms and the cause remains unexplained, it would certainly seem wise to discuss magnesium supplementation with your physician. In addition, in view of magnesium's relationship to insulin and insulin resistance, the use of magnesium supplementation as part of a heart healthy program would seem an important issue to explore."
Soybeans, shrimp, crab, clams, oysters and green vegetables are good sources of magnesium. The avg women needs 280 milligrams magnesium a day. (Men on avg 350)
"... Of particular interest to the carbohydrate addict is the fact that magnesium stores are dependent upon insulin action and the higher you insulin levels and insulin resistance, the lower your natural stores of magnesium are likely to be."

Rhonda,
Here is the list of induction vegetables from the Atkins site:
Vegetables
You can have two to three cups per day of:
alfalfa sprouts
daikon
mushrooms
arugula
endive
parsley
bok choy
escarole
peppers
celery
fennel
radicchio
chicory
jicama
radishes
chives
lettuce
romaine lettuce
cucumber
māche
sorrel
These salad vegetables are high in phytonutrients and provide a good source of fiber.
Other Vegetables
You can have one cup per day of these veggies if salad does not exceed two cups. The following vegetables are slightly higher in carbohydrate content than the salad vegetables:
artichoke
celery root
pumpkin
artichoke hearts
rhubarb
asparagus
chard
sauerkraut
bamboo shoots
collard greens
scallions
dandelion
snow peas
bean sprouts
dandelion greens
spaghetti squash
beet greens
eggplant
spinach
broccoli
hearts of palm
string or wax beans
broccoli rabe
kale
summer squash
brussels
kohlrabi
tomato
bean sprouts
leeks
turnips
cabbage
okra
water chestnuts
cauliflower
onion
zucchini
If a vegetable, such as spinach or tomato, cooks down significantly, it must be measured raw so as not to underestimate its carb count.
I hope tomorrow you're going to post that you've started eating your veggies!!!

Hey Tanya,
I know... my boyfriend (I hate calling him that - since I'm in my 40s - but what else do I call him, my S.O.???) anyway... he keeps asking me who I am talking to. I just keep telling him this site is helping me lose weight, then he leaves me alone.
Hey, Dr. Atkins was in a live chat on AOL tonight. I went in and read the comments - there was nothing earth shattering. (I was thinking people could have been asking better questions.) The questions seemed as though people hadn't even read his books.
Talk to you tomorrow.

Here is the link from VitaminShoppe:http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/browse/sku_detail.jhtml?SkuID=6831&BrandName=Solgar&SkuName=GTF+Chromium&BreadCrumbType=Search
It was $16.76 for 250 pills
(they also have 100 pills for $7.84)
You only need 1/day - take w/o food.
Yes, it's supposed to help speed up your weight loss.

I was reading some other threads yesterday - and I have decided I really like the Atkins KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) approach. I really don't worry about all the mixes, bars, low carb breads etc- I just really keep it simple - works best for me.
Tanyaskees
Fri, Jul-26-02, 10:15
That KISS does sound good, but I am NOT giving up my protien shakes. I need to fine some threads about it and read more on it. Where did you see them Corrie?

Corrie - your probably right...I think those candy bars stalled me...I want to check that out too. (KISS) thing
Corrie
Fri, Jul-26-02, 10:20
I won't give mine up either - I'm talking about all the atkins bake mix - protein bars and all the low carb products - I mean - I'll use them once in a while - but not on a daily basis - the simpler the better for me. Rhonda showed me a "metabolic diet" last month - It was so full of rules and this and that - but basically the same diet......the more simple it is the easier it is to stick to.
I read the Atkins KISS stuff in the "hot links" section.

I HATE to cook as well - so when I do - I cook a BUNCH at once and freeze some for use during the week. It works great for me.
I just warm it up and use salad stuff I keep on hand.....

Good morning. I've been working. I didn't have a great day yesterday and can't believe that today is even worse!
TGIF
I am soooo looking forward to the weekend. I didn't feel good yesterday, (headache), I went to bed at 8:00 last night, felt a little better this morning, then I came to work and the headache is back. I may try to get out of here an hour early today.
So, how are you all doing?
I've been thinking I should go back to strict induction too. I think the Advantage bars may be slowing me down.
BTW I read you all hate to cook, I love to cook. I actually miss being more creative. But liking to cook is not helping me lose, is it?
Rhonda,
When you think negative thoughts, you need replace them with good ones. Focus on what's good in your life. You can do anything you want, and don't worry about what other people think. You'll never be able to satisfy everyone else, just worry about how YOU feel.

Hi Corrie,
I thought you left to do some work.
Glad you are having a thin day. I felt really FAT this morning. I didn't even check the scale. I don't feel like I've lost, which I why I think I need to pull out my book and make sure I am back on 100% induction.

Corrie
Fri, Jul-26-02, 13:18
How can you both be in the same time zone??? I need a map
sydneyalex
Fri, Jul-26-02, 13:29
Corrie,
I am in NW Florida, thats why. I am on Central Time. When you get to Tallahassee it jumps to another hour ahead. And yes we have DST.
Tanyaskees
Fri, Jul-26-02, 13:33
My in-laws ar in West Palm Beach and they are an hour ahead of us, I think. I never could figure out this time zone mess. We also have daylight savings time, which is a royal pain all around.

Hey, a coworker just took a digital picture of me that I think is pretty good. I think I'll post it when she emails it to me. First time in my life I am not too camera shy.
Corrie
Fri, Jul-26-02, 13:38
Rhonda - so you're in the part of Florida that's under Alabama - not Georgia Right?
Tanya - Tennessee is split in two time zones - what a pain in the ass - just like DST!!!

Good morning, hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine was OK, but as always, too short.
But... I had a TWO pound loss today!!!
I haven't had a loss in several weeks - so I was really happy to finally see some downward movement. I feel so much better.
I have a really busy day today, several meetings - but I will check in when I can.

Good morning, way to go Summer :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
No loss for me. actually I bought a new scale this weekend that measures BF as well. It is a lot more acurate then what I have amd is 5 lbs more, just like my dr's office. So I need to adjust my stats, and I really don't want too. With the gain in the last few weeks and now 5 lbs more on the new scale, I weigh almost 190 lbs..GRRRRRRRRR. Hate that, but oh well.

Hi Tanya,
How was your weekend?
Great pic of you - I thought I was on the wrong thread when I pulled up your picture.
That's too bad about the scale - but I guess it's better to know. My scale isn't too good either. But I figure I always use the same scale so it's probably ok. I've been looking for a new one but haven't been able to find one. But if I got on it and it went up, I wouldn't be happy.

Thanks Summer, well, I adjusted my stats to my new scale....not too happy about it. But I adjusted my start weight too. Oh well, now I know :(.
