I JUST GOT THE BOOK TODAY AND HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WHAT. I SIMPLY *CAN'T* BE DOING IT RIGHT BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO SAY MY WEIGHT SHOULD BE BETWEEN 172 AND 186 (I'M BETWEEN 5'3 AND 5'4), AND I NEED 134 GRAMS OF PROTEIN PER DAY!

OH DEAR, I MIGHT HAVE TO STICK WITH ATKINS; I DON'T THINK I'M BRIGHT ENOUGH FOR PROTEIN POWER

Your question - Does it take a PhD in Rocket Science to do PP? My answer would be 'no'. (Though a background in endocrinology, biology, or medicine probably wouldn't hurt). If I could make a suggestion, it would be to keep reading PP, but to go to your library and check out (or put on hold if it's checked out) a copy of their other book, Protein Power Life Plan. It sacrifices some of the braininess of the first book, but personally, I like it better. Still, hold onto your copy of PP - it's a really good resource.

I don't know much about Atkins, but I hope that whatever you do, it works for you!!

Agree with Cat in the hat... have both books and find PP Lifeplan much more in laymen's term's... I think in the Eades first book they were trying to present their theory of LC with a more scientific viewpoint...in PP Lifeplan they have continued their thoughts of LC in a better format and much easier read

THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTION, CATINHAT, BUT OBVIOUSLY YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN TO THE LOSSIEMOUTH LIBRARY  IT IS VERY GOOD FOR A TOWN OF 6,000 PEOPLE, BUT... I'LL HAVE A LOOK WHEN I AM NEXT IN ELGIN (POPULATION OF ABOUT 25,000, I THINK).

I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE I GOT THOSE NUMBERS, BUT I DID THE CALCULATIONS AGAIN AND AM EVEN MORE SCARED. IT SEEMS THEY WANT ME TO WEIGH BETWEEN 115-125  SURELY THAT CAN'T BE RIGHT, AS EVEN THE LAST SLIMMING CLUB (PARDON MY SWEARING) I WENT TO SAID 140 WOULD BE ALRIGHT.

I'LL KEEP PLUGGING AWAY WITH PP, AS IT LOOKS REALLY GOOD.

ATKINS IS SIMPLE: EAT ALL THE MEAT, FISH, EGGS YOU WANT BUT LIMIT CARBS TO 20 GRAMS PER DAY IN THE FIRST 2 WEEKS (OR LONGER IF IT IS HARD FOR YOU TO LOSE), THEN RAISE THEM BY 5 GRAMS PER WEEK UNTIL YOU STOP LOSING, THEN DROP DOWN 5 GRAMS AND KEEP ON AT THAT LEVEL UNTIL YOU ARE CLOSE TO YOUR GOAL WEIGHT, THEN RAISE THEM IN 10 GRAM INCREMENTS UNTIL YOU STOP AND DROP DOWN AGAIN. LIFETIME MAINTENANCE IS JUST FINDING OUT HOW MUCH YOU NEED, CARB-WISE, TO STOP LOSING WEIGHT AND STAYING WITH THAT. THAT MIGHT NOT BE 100%, BUT SEEMS TO BE PRETTY MUCH IT IN A NUTSHELL, IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN.

THE WAY I AM GOING, WITH THIS DERNED CANDIDA, I AM WONDERING IF I WILL EVER REMOTELY GET NEAR MY GOAL WEIGHT. STILL, THERE'S NOTHING FOR IT BUT TO KEEP ON PLUGGING AWAY. EVEN STAYING AT THIS WEIGHT IS BETTER THAN THE ALTERNATIVE I'D FACE IF I WENT BACK TO LOW-FAT/HIGH CARB :exclm:

ONWARDS AND DOWNWARDS

This may be true where you live, or perhaps not, but it might be worth the asking. Libraries loan materials to other libraries all the time, when patrons need items that are not part of the collection. (I'm a children's specialist in a mid-size library district.) You might want to ask your librarian if it's possible to borrow this book or any others you might need from another, larger library. Some libraries ask you to help with the costs (postage and such), while others do not. "My" library does interlibrary loans with libraries all over the world - it's really cool! Hope this helps you, or anyone else that's reading along.

Ja in der tat mein Freund bin ich ein Professor der Rakete Wissenschaft und des Wunsches, zum zu helfen.

Vas es dat? You no speaky the deutsch. I spraken zee little Engleesh and I ham vanting to helpen zee vit de Protein Power. I can do zis when not making zee rockets or making der tea for Helga.

Telling me the following of der measurements

DAS IST MEIN GLOCKENSPIEL ;)

YOU MUST THINK I AM SUCH A THICKIE. ONE HANDY THING ABOUT THE M.S. IS THAT I CAN ALWAYS BLAME THE BRAIN DAMAGE FROM THE DEMYELINATION OF THE NERVES

RIGHT, HERE WE GO:

BELLY BUTTON: 46
HIPS: 48.5
HEIGHT: 63.5
WEIGHT: 196

BTW, THIS IS SOME AMOUNT OF TRUST. THE LAST TIME I HAD MY "WELL WOMAN" CHECK-UP AT MY PREVIOUS DR'S SURGERY, THE NURSE ASKED ME IF I MINDED A MEDICAL STUDENT (MALE) OBSERVING (INCLUDING THE CERVICAL SMEAR BEING TAKEN). I SAID, "NO, JUST DON'T LET HIM SEE YOU WEIGH ME." THE POOR BOY HEARD ME AND LOOKED *SO* SHOCKED THAT I WOULD LET HIM SEE *THAT*, BUT NOT MY WEIGHT. I SAID TO THE NURSE, " *THERE* IS AN INSIGHT INTO THE FEMALE MIND FOR HIM." :daze:

I FIND THE MEASUREMENTS INTERESTING. THE FACT THAT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO MEASURE AT THE NAVEL RATHER THAN THE WAIST IS INTERESTING; MY WAIST IS 4 OR 5 INCHES SMALLER THAN THE MEASUREMENT AT MY BELLY BUTTON. I *KNOW* THERE IS A *VERY* GOOD REASON FOR IT, BUT WHO COMES UP WITH THESE THINGS?

THANKS FOR THE ASSISTANCE, PROFESSOR, OR SHOULD THAT BE "DANKA".

BTW, MY PHENOMENAL KNOWLEDGE OF GERMAN INCLUDES THE USEFUL SENTENCE, "ICH BIN EIN UNTERZEEBOAT." PARDON THE SPELLING. I TOLD A GERMAN I MET ONE TIME THAT I WANTED TO KNOW SOMEHTHING TO MAKE GERMANS LAUGH IF I SHOULD MEET THEM, AS I KNOW *NOTHING* OF THE LANGUAGE, SO HE TAUGHT ME TO SAY "I AM A SUBMARINE." IT WORKS, TOO ;)

PLEASE DON'T TELL ME THAT MY IDEAL WEIGHT IS 7 STONES (98 POUNDS FOR THE NON IMPERIAL MEASUREMENT SPEAKERS THAT ARE READING THIS) :(

.....5....4....3...2..1.. ignition....we have liftoff.

Your geneneral shape is that of an apple and you don't need me to tell you that you carry your excess fat around the middle. This does place you at a slightly higher risk to insulin related problems.

The ideal weight calculations are sensitive to the "waist" measurement. So I have done the calculations at the navel and then at your more normal waist. Your own second set of calculations are nearer the correct mark.

So at a navel measurement of 46inches the ideal weight would be in the range 117 - 126. At a lower waist measurement (42) it would produce a range of 127- 137. The bigger you make the waist measurement the greater the % of body fat to lean body. Your body fat % is around 50% and ought to be around 25%.

Some people use this as a target rather than the actual weight. But as you only have scales I would aim for 126lbs which is an even 9 stones on british scales.

But more important is to maintain adequate protein consumption. Your daily minimum should be 60grams of Protein which divides neatly into 20 grams a meal. What is that? Well that is only a cheese omlette or a quarter pounder burger or a tin of tuna. Nothing you can't handle. So you don't need to worry about counting protein. Typical meat and fish servings all would be over your minimum.

You can eat more! Eades refers to "induction" as Phase 1 intervention. Carbs up to 30grams. This is not a two week thing this is 4-6weeks. Phase 2 intervention allows carbs up to 55 and this is for as long as you want to lose. So not too dissimilar to Atkins OWL. No need to start adding 5grams at a time or measuring fo Ketosis. Just keep it under 55. Its that simple not rocket science after all.

All the low carb principles apply to Protein Power. You must drink water. All your favorite supplements are recommended - vitamins and minerals. Read all the good stuff on this site about good fats and bad fats. Last but not least exercise. No you don't have to start running, as the best idea is resistance training and weights. Stuff you can do in the privacy of your own home with improvised weights. Stretch and tone the muscle and put all that protein to good use.

Thats me done. I am off to build more rockets. Johny Rockets hamburgers that is.

The most famous German statement was when JFK said in Berlin "Ich bin ein Berliner" Unknown to him he had just declared that he was a German Sausage! How nice.

THEN AGAIN, I GUESS BEING CALLED A FRUIT IS SLIGHTLY LESS OFFENSIVE THAN BEING CALLED A VEGETABLE. GEE, THAT WAS A *LOT* FUNNIER IN MY HEAD THAN IT LOOKS IN TYPE :D

THANKS *SO* MUCH FOR THE HELP WITH THE CALCULATIONS. I'LL BE DERNED IF I DIDN'T HAVE IT ABOUT RIGHT THE SECOND TIME. NOW *THAT'S* SCARY! NINE STONE? THE LAST TIME I WEIGHED NINE STONE I WAS 11 YEARS OLD. I CAN REMEMBER THINKING ONE DAY, IF I COULD JUST STOP GAINING WEIGHT, I'D BE ALRIGHT WHEN I GREW UP.

WHEN I LOST WEIGHT FOR MY WEDDING TO CHRIS IN 1996, I GOT DOWN TO EXACTLY 10 STONES. I HAD TO STARVE MYSELF AND DO ALL MANNER OF INTERESTING THINGS TO GET THERE. :Puke: NEEDLESS TO SAY, *THAT* DIDN'T LAST LONG.

I WONDER WHY IT IS THAT PP ALLOWS MORE CARBOS THAT ATKINS, AND HOW IT STILL WORKS. THIS IS WEIRD, BUT I LIKE THE POSSIBILITY OF THE OCCASIONAL TASTE OF FRUIT (ONCE I GET THE CANDIDA AT BAY, OF COURSE!). I AM NOT BEING CONTENTIOUS THERE, BTW, I AM *SERIOUSLY* INTERESTED. I GUESS I'D BETTER GET BACK TO THE BOOKS AND SEE WHAT THEY ALL HAVE TO SAY.

60 GMS. OF PROTEIN SOUNDS DO-ABLE, ESPECIALLY AS YOU HAVE IT BROKEN DOWN; I AM THE TUNA KID ;)

YOU'RE RIGHT ABOUT THE EXERCISE, OF COURSE. THE M.S. IS TOO HANDY AN EXCUSE. THERE ARE THINGS I CAN DO (RUNNING *NOT* BEING ONE OF THEM  ) AND I NEED TO GET TO IT, JUST DOING AS MUCH AS I CAN. I AM TOO ALL OR NOTHING. IF I CAN'T HALF KILL MYSELF, IT HARDLY SEEMS WORTH IT

THANKS AGAIN, PROFESSOR ;) YOU'RE NOT BAD FOR AN ENGLISHMAN

OH, AND, LOOLOU, THANKS FOR THE LINK TO THE PP WEBSITE; I'LL GO THERE NOW!

My husband says that a Berliner is actually a jelly donut. JFK said, "I am a jelly donut."

I have read Protein Power, and have it still, but I would be wary of adding in a "slice of lite toast" even with breakfast. Grains have strange effects on some of us, and I think it's especially important to those with candida. You might also need to go no dairy, no nuts, no vinegar and who knows what else.

It took me a few tries to get the math right on Protein Power too. The first time I thought my brain would melt!

Of course the famous JFK quote is the stuff of urban myths. He did say it but at the time everyone knew what he meant and did not laugh or think he was a sausage or donut. If JFK had gone to Frankfurt even he would have laughed.

A "Berliner Pfannkuchen" is indeed a doughnut although Pfannkuchen is more accurately a pancake and interestingly only referred to as a "berliner" by those outside Berlin.

Whereas the Berliner sausage is a type of liver and pork sausage named after the region of city of its origin.

It is a bit like cheese being called Cheddar, Stilton, or Wensleydale ....all towns where the cheese originated.

I did not want anyone having cravings for donuts so went for the Protein Berliner version:D

The Protein Power calcs for men are different. We have to measure our wrists and not the hips. And I have such nice hips too ;)

AS JACK BLACK SAID IN ENEMY OF THE STATE "IT'S ALREADY DONE" ;) MY DIET IS GRAIN FREE, YEAST FREE, SUGAR FREE, STARCH FREE, FERMENTATION FREE, CHEESE FREE... PEOPLE ASK WHAT I DO EAT AND I SAY, "MEAT AND VEGETABLES". I WITHSTOOD BIRTHDAY CAKE AND SWEETS YESTERDAY (A 6-YEAR-OLD FRIEND'S BIRTHDAY). WHAT A HERO ;)

And I have such nice hips too

HEY, RUSTPOT, I NEVER KNEW YOU WERE A HIPPY :D
