I have been doing the Atkins diet for about 1 month. Despite a bit of a sticky start i have lost 14 pound but in the last few days i have noticed the odd pound creeping on . I havnt cheated at all . could anyone suggest anything to kick start me again. I dont mind reaching a stand still but i dont like those creeping pounds. Thank you

It's normal to gain a few pounds after induction. It's your body adjusting to all the changes. Stick with it, and you'll see those pounds dropping off again. :p

Yes, indeed. It's perfectly normal to have a few lbs creep back on after Induction...

I don't recall being so aware of lbs creeping back on when I finished Induction, but I only lost about 10 lbs, which I thought was low.

The good news is, I'm down 76lbs since January 5th, so stick with it. Read your book again and again. Do just what it says. Pay attention to your carb levels until you get more comfortable and learn your limits.

And just like any other WOE, you'll hit a few stalls here and there. But this forum is a great place to share your experiences, now and when that happens.

Good luck!

Thankyou both for your replies. Glad to hear its normal. I certainly will stick to it. I have come too far to give up now. Ihave tried every other diet going and have not lost a pound. im told that is due to having fibroids and polycystic ovaries. but this one so far has worked .. I cant explain the feeling when the pounds start to fall off after struggling for so long that is why alarm bells ring when the odd pound starts coming back. I am not really one for talking about my weight but i must say this site is an insparation thank you for being there.

Hi and welcome, blurtygirt!

Check out the PCOS forum on the board. You may find some very helpful information as it relates to low carbing and the condition that you have. Low carb is actually recommended for people with PCOS, so I think you'll find that this works very well for you. Don't be alarmed at a few pounds gain; that's not terribly unusual. You may want to check what you're eating, though, just to be safe and make sure that some extra carbs aren't sneaking in there. Keep at it and let us know how you're doing!

Hello blurty! I've been doing Atkins for 1.5 months and what I've been doing is if I notice I gain a pound, I cut down on salt the next day and drink a little more water and it seems to do just fine. I wouldn't worry about a pound either way, just as the fine people above have said, our bodies will adjust and are not going to constantly be on a downward spiral with this WOL or any I suppose. So if you are worried about gaining a little, maybe weigh in once a week or do what a lot of people on this forum do.. ditch the scale and go with what the measuring tape says.
But if you stick with the diet and follow the plan, in time you will get to where you want to be. Hang in there. And congrats on losing 14 pounds!

Blurty, do yourself a big favour right now and measure yourself. Lots of us old-timers go through weeks when the scale doesn't seem to budge but we're losing inches. And don't just measure bust, waist, hips; try upper arm and thigh. I wish I'd measured between my bust and my waist. I lost a couple of rolls from there when my main measurements stayed the same.

If you hate to see the figure on the tape, use the metric side; the numbers are bigger, but they're harder to relate to.

The other way to gauge weight loss is with what Nat calls a "pantometer." It's an old pair of pants that no longer fit, or a new pair that don't fit yet. My current pantometer is pair of Eddie Bauer khakis, size 18 (regular, not plus). I can't wear them in public yet, but I can fasten the fastener and button the button. The best thing about them is that I don't have to pull them up to my armpits to get the crotch in the right place.

The great thing about this forum is that it's a place where those of us who hate to talk about our weight can do so and know that someone understands. So make yourself comfortable, start a journal, and ask questions.

Thank you for your kind words and support it means a lot i dont think i will go with the tape but i did buy a pair of jeans that are a bit tight .I think I will use them as my gauge. I have stopped using the keto stix as i found they were ruling my diet and have put my scales away in the larder. So here goes.......................oh while i remember to ask what fruits are ok to eat now as i live for fruit.... thanxs again Paula

Blurtygirt...

uh oh....fruits are not allowed on induction. Once you are past induction you can start adding them back in again, but go for the lower carb ones like berries and melons and only eat small amounts. Just to give you an example, 1/2 cup of strawberries (not sliced) is 5 grams of carb, 1/2 cup of blueberries is 8.2 grams, 1/2 cup of melon balls is 6.3 grams. As you can see, it doesn't take a lot of fruit to add the carbs quickly, so go easy on them and always make sure to eat some protein with them to minimize the insulin response.
