Is anyone out there trying to break 200lbs? I'm at about 220-221lbs right now, and I have my sights set on breaking 200! I can't wait until I break that one! It will be the first time in years I have been below 200lbs AND at 199.4 I will have lost 50lbs!

So anyone else out there who is trying to break 200, let me know!

Me!!

My first mini goal I have set for myself is 199 - I want to see a 1 in the first digit of my weight! That day will be a very happy day indeed. I know it is only 1 pound from 200 - but still a great milestone to reach.

My weight as of this morning has be at a total loss of 37.5 pounds, only 5.5 more pounds.

We can do this! Yay us!

Congrats on your loss so far! I've lost 28.4lbs so far, and can't wait til the next 20 goes and I'm below 200. I know, it will be so exciting to have my weight start with a '1'!

How long have you been LCing for? I've been at it since the end of February, so I'm pretty proud of my loss so far, about 10lbs a month is nice and quick but not dangerously so.

I was watching "the view" the last few weeks and they were doing lo-cal, lo-fat and they were losing up to 12lbs in a week, and I was thinking about the fact that is WAY too fast, and their doctors would tell them to stop a plan like that AND if you lose that much, that fast, how long are you going to be able to maintain?!? Lol basically, what I'm saying here is LO CARB RULES!

Talon

I started the Atkins diet on January 20th, 2002. If I can loose 1.5-2.00 pounds (on average) a week, I will be one happy camper! I calculate that I will reach goal around March, 2003.

I agree, losing weight slower is much better - gives your body time to adjust - and you are not starving yourself. Plus the skin has more of a chance to bounce back!

I also agree,

LOW CARB RULES!

Count me in. I came back to atkin's almost two weeks ago. I haven't weighed til today, I was to afraid to see just how pathetic my weight was. I read this thread and figured why not, stripped down and got on the scales. Ok 211, certainly not as bad as it could be (realizing everyone here that weighs like 123 is going ugh 211??!!) whatever.
ok, let's see what a one as the front number of our weight looks like!
I had a salad with grilled chicken and cheese for lunch, with ranch, Dinner was a whole passle of hot wings, I fried the drummettes in olive oil (no coating) then simmered them in a mix of butter, garlic and Frank's red hot sauce.
As always, my problem will be not drinking enough(any) water.
So, what did you guys eat today?

Talon
Sun, May-26-02, 21:54
Breakfast:
3 eggs
Hamburger patty with a bit of A1 steak sauce

Lunch:
4 fiber crackers (4 carbs each) with cream cheese
Tuna and mayo
...I was hungry at lunch!

Dinner:
1 very large BBQ'd chicken breast
2 cups green beans drenched in butter

BBQ sauce hubby got of the internet, I've had better, but not a good cheap (make it yourself) kind - it was great! Normally on weekdays, I eat more veggies in the form of salad. Wendy's chicken BLT being my favorite (but with ranch dressing of course!)

Ivory
Sun, May-26-02, 22:15
I had 2 hotdogs and some celery & cheez-whiz for lunch(I woke up late and didn't eat breakfast)

For dinner I had lasagna & ceaser salad(I'm on CAD so I get a reward meal at dinner)

Lol don't worry about people who weigh 123lbs! I don't think any of them are browsing this thread!

I am off work today, so I will do a lot of brainstorming about low carb menus. It is easier to low carb at home than at work. At work when I get that torpedos be damned I gotta eat SOMETHING feeling, the only choice is the snack machine in the breakroom, and there is NOTHING in there that constitutes a good LC choice.
Yesterday for breakfast I ate the sausage and egg off a croissanwich from burger king. lunch I had the half a piece of ham and some green beans at cracker barrel (I really would have prefered the country fried steak, mashed potatoes, hash brown casserole and biscuits.....but that seemed wrong) For dinner at home I cooked hamburgers on the george foreman grill and steamed broccolli. and ate a couple of chunks of cheese.
I am already feeling a lot better doing low carb, I do have more energy throughout the day, but by the time evening comes, I almost pass out the second my head hits the pillow
Low carb is helping the family as well, I simply buy no junk foods, so even tho they are not low carbing, neither are they consuming chips, cookies and doughnuts......
happy low carb tuesday everyone.

CC or 199 are goals of mine for this summer. I've been off LC for a month but will be back on it by mid-June or July 1 (had some surgery in April and am healing) .

I'd LOVE to see the big 2 disappear.

I'm so glad to see that so many people have the same goal I do! Its nice to have some company on this road. I'm waiting for my dad to wake up so that I can weigh myself(the scale is in the bathroom off the master bedroom and he's working night shift)

Hey, Molmerlin, don't you just love your George Foreman Grill?? I got one for Christmas and I LOVE IT! Have you ever tried grilling your brocoli. Cut it up and put it in a bowl with a lid, then put some olive oil over it, put the lid on and shake so that each piece gets oil on it(but not too much) and then put it on the grill. Its delicious!

I've been sitting at 200 for 6 wks now and am getting frustrated. I would love to see even a 1 pound loss. However, im determined not to weigh every day or even every week because seeing no change really makes me want to eat every carb in sight! Guess i just have to wait it out.

Ivory, I will definitely try the broccoli idea. Sounds interesting. I can't imagine what that will taste like.
Around mid morning I had two eggs and I think five strips of bacon, didn't eat again til around six thirty and I ate part of one of those rotissere chickens from Kroger and some cream cheese.
I have not eaten enough today, and that still sounds wierd to say, but I know the only way to do this is to eat plenty, cause it's when you don't eat that you get so hungry that you will eat whatever is in sight (like those lucious Krispy Kreme doughnuts they had on display at Kroger)
Six weeks is a long time to be at one weight, one day you will wake up and be 195 and the day will be glorious.
I know we all want to see what a one looks like as the first number in our weight, but what are everyone's goals? I really think I could be happy being a fourteen for a while. The kind of fourteen that I could walk into any store and just buy a fourteen, not hope that they ran big etc.
I am lucky, everyone is very supportive of me, and the weather is finely beautiful. so all is well with everything. Happy day to ALL!

I've found that at 5' 4'' I must carry my weight differently than most - even other people of my height. I am still wearing size 22 - I was up to a size 26/28. I will be estatic when I hit a size 18 - but my true goal is somewher earound a size 10/12. But I will take whatever I get, as long as I feel good!

Ivory
Wed, May-29-02, 07:58
Grr! I weighed in this morning and there wasn't a change. I seem to be stuck around 222ish. Most days lately its been around there, and then there's a day or so when it'll dip down to 220ish, just to tease me. This is frustrating!

Here's a question, how often does everyone cheat? I'm not a very good Cad-er. I have at least one little indescretion every day and thats probably why I'm stuck. My problem is the little things, like having one chip(yes you CAN eat just one!) and things like that.

Talon
Wed, May-29-02, 08:30
I think you've hit the nail on the head.

Ask yourself this question: Do I want to loose this weight and feel better?

If the answer is YES (it had better be if you are here in this forum), then you MUST stop the cheating. The old adage of "Just a little bit won't hurt" is a bald faced lie! It will hurt, epescially if you are having that little bit everyday!

Hang in there!!! I am down to 194 - There is NOTHING like the feeling of getting rid of that "2".

Take it 1 day at a time - be sure to drink your water.

And remember to not protein load in the evening.

IT WILL HAPPEN!!!

Talon
Wed, May-29-02, 10:54
I've never heard of "protein loading" - does that mean eating too much proten?

Thanks!

Corrie
Wed, May-29-02, 11:02
Read the Atkins chapter on plateaus. It means don't eat more protein than you need close to bedtime (4 hours) so that your body can burn the fat while you sleep.....

Make lunch your larger meal - and cut back on dinner a little!!! IT WORKS!!!

Protein is negative calories (meaning it uses more calories to burn it off than it has in it) so you are burning the calories - which is good, but most fat loss occurs at night.

So by not protein loading at night you are making your body rely more on your fat stores than it does during the day.

At - lease this is what I have been taught - all I can say is that it works for me.....

I have been LC'ing since the end of Novemeber. The Monday after Thanksgiving to be exact. That day I jumped on the scale and said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. When I saw 275 staring back at me I darn near cried. Not like I didn't know I was gaining but 275 holy cow an all time high for me. I was finally sick & tired of being sick & tired. Well I am happy to say I am down 37 pounds but holding steady. Have been at this weight for WAY to long. I am aiming to hit that 199 mark too! I can't remember the last time I was under 200. Overall I want to be in a 14 again. I was there once with phen phen. At 5' 10" I felt I looked good at a 14. I can't remember who wrote it earlier but the kind of 14 where you can walk in to any store and have it fit that's the 14 I'm aiming for too!

Here's to our health! Take care and together we can tackle anything!

Hi everyone. I think this is a wonderful thread. I like being with you all.
My daughter and I went to an outlet mall today, did't buy much but by the end of the day, we had to eat something. There was NOTHING to choose from, so we ended at denny's. A nice remodeled Denny's but denny's none the less. I had a garlic, swiss, mushroom burger (yes, no bread) It was wonderful. I had had five pieces of bacon for breakfast.
There all that talk of cheating in this thread. I have been very good the past two weeks, but I am sorry to admit that I ate two chocolate covered pretzels today (ok dammit, I also ate two of my daughters fries at Denny's!!!) These things happen. I just keep on going. I suppose I wll have some kind of cream cheese rollups this evening. Who would have ever thought pork rinds would be in our vocabulary?
I have not weighed again, I can become addicted to the scale, as I have found out in the past. I feel good though. and surely that is what this is all about

Ivory, I try not to cheat that often. But lately I've been cheating about once a week. Actually, I cheated yesterday, too. I ate one slice of bread that was on a burger I had. :nono: It was good though. But I do believe that has been slowing my progress too. I am trying not to get too upset because I know that my little cheat tantrums are probaly causing my slowdown. But I will just go on and try harder the next time.

I love my George Foreman grill too. It is so convenient and quick and I will have to try the brocolli thing too. That is just about the only vegetable that I DO like to eat.

I made it through today cheat free! yay! It was really hard because one of my major problems that got me needing to lose weight is picking at things, just a little nibble here and there. So I'm battling against that learned action, but today I did it! yay for me!

JKRohn, I totally know that feeling, I stepped on a scale this past year and saw 251.5 and it scared me, that meant I could round up to 300lbs and I had a scary Kathy Bates in Fried Green Tomatoes moment, where she says "I wish I just had the courage to go ahead and get really fat". So I decided that I either had to lose weight or give up and get bigger, and I decided then that I would rather be a size 10 than die in my 30's from obesity.

Corrie, I will definetly make sure not to have protein at night anymore. I'm on CAD so I get a reward meal which I have at dinner, but I'm usually up for several hours after that and often have an evening snack, so I'll just make sure its mostly veggies at night from now on!

I have to say that this thread has been SOOO inspirational to me and I'm so glad that we all are here to support each other!

Good Luck - and think of it this way.....

Every time you cheat, you send your blood sugar back up, and you body will immediately stop burning fat and go back to burning glucose for fuel - it will always burn the easiest - most readily available fuel first...Ketosis stops.

If you eat more carbs than you need, they will go to your storage areas, if the storage areas are full, they turn right back to fat. Your body already knows how to do this really easily.

So think about this process....You have to break back out of the process of your body using glucose for fuel....which can take 3 or 4 days depending on the individual...So every time you cheat it can take almost a week to get back to burning your fat for fuel....

Do you see where I am going? Even if you only cheat once a week, you can cause your weight loss to come to a screeching halt.

Don't think that the one bite of cake, french fry or piece of bread won't hurt you - it will.

I personally also have trouble losing if I don't stay away from diet soda and coffee.....

Drink your water and take your vitamins!!!

Ivory I am so proud of you!

It is hard to stay cheat free when you have those things that traditionally send you off on a "Eating this will make me feel better" moment. I've had those many a time!

Right now I am trying to make a deal with myself, if I am hungry - I eat. If I am aggravated/mad/depressed etc - I do not eat just because "I deserve it", or "I need it". Its been hard, but so far it has worked. Hopefully one day it will become second nature and I don't have to keep arguing with myself about it. :)

I am so happy! I didn't cheat yesterday and my scale hit 220 this morning!

Cheating is one of those things I KNOW is wrong and that its throwing me off, but I just don't always listen, but now I'm going to.

Its so nice to losing weight and to refer to the scale 'hitting' a certain weight on the way DOWN!

Anyway I am going to find some food(lo carb of course!)

Our little family is getting bigger (and I mean that in a good way)
Today at work was a busy day, no time to wish I was eating.
Do we all agree that being hungry really has NOTHING to do with why we eat? Eating makes me feel good. Curling up with a good book, or a great movie and a bag of oreos or chips.....comfort food and all that. I just like the taste of things. You know, how we just keep eating at thanksgiving, cause even tho we are STUFFED there is mom's pie or someone's cheesecake...
How sick of eggs is everyone? the only way I can stand them now is deviled
I had nothing but about ten macadamia nuts for breakfast, then went to lonestar for lunch, had a lunch steak, part of a salad, and steamed veggies (i only ate the broccoli), then for dinner, hubby made a pork roast, and I had some of that. (he loves to cook, and is very supportive, doesn't add a bunch of carbs to stuff.
i am still having trouble drinking water, i know i know, just do it
later. you are all doing great!

I agree with you molmerlin. :agree: I was quite tired of eating eggs myself. I had to just take a break from them for a while because I ate them almost everyday during induction. I ate them for a while after induction, too, until I just simply couldn't take it anymore. :Puke:

Corrie, thank you for stating those facts about cheating once. :read2: I knew it already, but for some reason I kept trying to trick myself into believing that it wouldn't affect me. But it probaly explains why I am still sort of at a standstill. Sometimes it's just good to hear stuff from other people. ;)

Well today is day two of no cheating. I had a hamburger and some brocolli on my george foreman grill, as well as a salad for breakfast/lunch(whatever the meal is called when you get up at 11:30am! lol) For dinner, I had two sloppy joes and a salad, and tonight after I got back from work at about 9:30pm, I cooked a bit of cauliflower(following advise to not have protein at night) in the microwave and had that with a bit of melted cheez whiz. I also had about 3L of water today. As well, I went on a 45 minute power walk. I really worked it today and plan to do that at least 4 times per week...for as much as it wasn't feeling too great at the end, it felt fabulous as well!

I sure would like to join in this thread! My final goal is 137, but right now, I live for the day when I hit 199. It's been over 10 years since I've weighed that little. Actually, it's been over 10 years since I've weight THIS little! About 18 months ago, I was 272, but I was able to lose down to 230 doing different things here and there. Sometimes I was doing lowcarb, sometimes something else. I wasn't committed to any one thing for long, and I always told myself I was miserable when I was on Protein Power. This time, I feel great, and I feel like I could go on like this forever.

My parents are coming to visit mid-August. I would love to weigh 199 when they get here. They saw me last Thanksgiving, at about 230, so I think they'd see the difference.

Molmerlin: You mentioned going to Lone Star for lunch, that is my favorite place to go! I usually get the San Antonio Sirlion, salad with no croutons or onions (I hate them) and instead of the baked potato, I get them to substitute sauteed mushrooms. Yummm!

Yesterday I don't think I ate enough, I was just so busy I just didn't feel like eating.

Well I finally go up this morning, I slept for ten hours straight, trying to get caught up. We had the big cheese come to work yesterday which meant that everyone put in a ton of extra hours the day before....blah.
I am still having trouble drinking the water I KNOW I am supposed to drink. I have tried dozens of different brands of bottled water (who'd have thought there would be so much money to be made in bottling water??) and I really don't care for any of them I actually prefer tap water (I guess I like water with a little body in it) but I still don't like it. I just need to drink it, I know I know. I give myself little challenges to finish a bottle (whatever works)
Other than the water thing, I am doing very well.
I guess we could all think of our most embarassing story (stories) of being overweight. At the time they are not so funny, but thinking back, sometimes they are.
Not a funny story, but I do notice that when I go to meetings or whatever, I scan the room and see if I am the biggest woman there. Do we all do that?
I gotta get this day started, I work from noon to eleven today, I need to eat before I go. Have a great Friday everyone :daizy:

Ivory
Fri, May-31-02, 10:43
I prefer tap water too, and as for bottled water, Dasani is good but I hate the bottle, it crumples in your hand! So usually its another brand with a better bottle(that I just refill over and over)

Molmerlin, yes I do scan rooms to see where I rank on the chubby scale. Usually because I know how much I actually weigh I assume I'm bigger than everyone else, but honestly I don't look my weight at all. I never have(which I thank God for!). Even at 250 I looked 200ish. I was quite glad for that. I'm hoping at 160(my final goal) that I look less then too! We'll see, I think I was in about grade 6 when I was 160 the last time!

Catinhat: welcome to the group! We're glad to have you! Its great you have a goal like looking fab when your parents come in August. I have a similar goal. I am going back to school in the fall, and I want jaws to drop!!

Anyway must go find food and then go for a walk!

Great to hear from everyone. I love all the little "no cheating" days it seems we are all having. Way to go us! I think having a support group of people in our same situations helps tons. At least It does for me.

Funny story.......... OK I thought I would NEVER tell anyone this but we are all friends here and no one is here to judge me.... So here goes...... Awhile back I was at my ultimate high of 275 I was outside on our work patio taking a stress break before I went postal. On my way back into the building I caught my toe on the door threshold and dove head first into the cafeteria landing flat on my face. As if that wasn't a grand enough entrance I did so all the while my too tight jeans (I had nothing left that fit my fat butt) split right open exposing my belly for all the world to see. Ok that's it quit laughing now. I'm mortally scarred for life but I'll make it. OK so it is kinda funny. I giggle now just thinking about it.

Now that that's over and I am a lot less heavy. I will survive. Not long after that happened I changed offices (still work for the same company just differnt location) I hope to return in the fall and get the WOW's I know I will deserve. WIth this WOL we can do anything we put our minds too.

Thanks for all the support!

There's nothing like the wow's eh? I love it. I love having people comment about the weight loss. Maybe that makes me shallow, but I don't care, I can deal with shallow  I put on a tank top that I bought in March, so about 3 weeks after I started LCing. I've gone from a size 20 to a size 16. I'm just having a good day so I thought I'd brag a bit :D

Today I had 2 deviled eggs and some cooked cauliflower for lunch. I've had about 2L of water so far, I swear I exercise only because it makes me thirsty and I get through the water ;)

I had nothing for breakfast but some decaf and water. I was to busy at work . But for lunch I had some sliced turkey with cream cheese and a salad with chunky blue cheese with a glass of iced tea.

I need to drink more water today - but I will have to force myself. I'm just not as thirsty as usual.

Can any of you lose if you drink diet soda?

I don't know if it is the caffiene or the carbonation, but nomater which it is - it brings my weight loss to a screeching halt.

What about Tea?

Talon
Fri, May-31-02, 14:37
I gave up all soda's sometime in February. I just couldn't take drinking all those chemicals when I was trying to get my body healthier be eating better food. Let me tell you, this was a HUGE adjustment - I've drank sodas only for most of the time I've been able to drink from a cup! Water was something nasty that I rarely ever had a glass of. While I did lose weight my first month, I still feel much better without the caffiene and extra cost.

Now it is filtered water for me and an occasional iced tea (about once a month). The following article is something I found floating around the net, and it is what gave me that Umph to quite the sodas:

FACTS AND INFORMATION ABOUT WATER AND COKE COLA .....
AFTER READING THIS .... YOU DECIDE!

Water or Coke?

We all know that water is important but I've never seen it written down like this before.

WATER:
· 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half of the world population)
· In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
· Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.
· One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a U-Washington study.
· Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
· Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
· A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
· Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?

COKE COLA :
· In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.
· You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days.
· To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.
· To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
· To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
· To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
· To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
· To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.
· The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.
· To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for Highly corrosive materials.
· The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would you like a glass of water or coke?

I have CUT BACK on Diet Coke, but I can't give it up...I'm down a LOT in my daily consumption and I drink a LOT water.

I like to assume that the coke facts don't apply to diet coke

I can still lose with Diet Coke, I just have to be very aware of how much I drink.

I don't drink tea anymore because I had a nasty habit of putting about 4 cups of sugar in my tea ;) so I figure that I should just avoid the temptation altogether!

I like to think the Coca Cola rules don't apply to Diet Coke and Diet Dr. Pepper as well. I adore them - But I can't drink them because they make me hold water. I have never put sugar in my tea - just lemon, so that's not a problem. But I read somewhere that caffeine makes you retain water and causes insulin imbalances......
But I have cut WAY BACK too - I have them very rarely anymore - I was just wondering if anybody else has the same problem or if I am being picked on by the LC God.

I was doing SOO well with not cheating but I blew it this weekend. I went to a friend's yesterday and had a few drinks last night. so the alcohol was a bit of a cheat. CAD says I can have it with my Reward Meal, which I followed BUT I surpassed my Reward Meal time which was how I cheated. Anyway I had ice cream last night as well(BUT I got sick and so my body never had a chance to digest the ice cream) Anyway I also had a bun on my burger at lunch today so that wasn't good either.

I feel so guilty, I was doing so well, but its harder to follow at someone else's house. I know that none of that justifies cheating though.

On to some happier news. I measured myself for the first time at the beginning of May, and then again today. Since then I've lost 3 inches in my bust, 4 in my waist, 2 on my tummy(across the belly button) and .75 on my thighs. My hips stayed the same but thats okay because staying the same is better than growing!

Sun, Jun-02-02, 21:57
Ivory.. It sounds like you have made great progress since the beginning of May. You deserve to be proud of yourself. You and i and everyone here know it's not the weight, it's the inches.
You also know not to beat yourself up about lapses. Every single one of us does it. We just start back up and keep on going.
What are you going to eat tomorrow? You gotta eat something for breakfast. I have already made it clear how I feel about eggs (yuck, yuck and yuck one more time) I am thinking I will make some tuna salad tonight and by morning it will be really really cold and I will have it for breakfast. maybe I will even make cheese crisps to go with it. yummy. I have some broccoli in the microwave right now, and I will be slathering it with butter and I am very excited about that. Ho do I get excited about broccoli?
I am off work the next two days and I have about a hundred and one things to do.
My clothes seem like they are feeling looser. they better be. I cannot wait to get into some of my smaller things....ok, I guess I can wait, don't want to gross everyone out by wearing skin tight jeans...... low carb rules (doesn't it?) you rock Ivory, take care

Sun, Jun-02-02, 22:18
Let's see, what will I eat?? I think I'll have sausage and cooked cauliflower for breakfast. At lunch, I might make a burger and have salad with it. For dinner, I'll have whatever my mom makes, which is why I love CAD(I can have some carbs at dinner)

I love when the clothes start to fit looser! I bought new capri pants today because my two other pairs are both really loose now! I bought them in size 16(I was wearing a 20/22) before. I was annoyed though that in some store I'm tried them on, the 16 was too small...why oh why don't they make sizes uniform everywhere?!?!

i have set my next mini goal at 220 then i will go for 200. i am at 238 now but i will get to my goal weight i have no doubt. i got a little sad a couple of weeks ago when the scales showed no lose for the week but, i tried on a pair of pants i had not been able to get into the prior week. and to my surprise they fit  so when you are not loseing the pounds you are still loseing the inches. after that little stale the scales are going down again but just thinking of that may help me when i stall again.

ok, I am back briefly, then off to bed. I had to watch the sopranos, and throw a load of clothes in the wash.
I did eat broccoli with butter, very nice indeed. I have not as yet done the tuna for tomorrow
I was looking through the recipe sectionearlier. I read a lot about cauliflower. There was something about using a food processor and proceesing the cauliflower into tiny things and then using that as a rice substitute. Sounds interesting. I have never been a big cauliflower fan, but part of our new wol is finding new faves, correct?
I am tired, I need to be in bed but I gotta put the clothes in the dryier when they are done washing. I guess I will lurk here a while. scope out some recipe ideas. later

You should try the mock potato salad made with cauliflower. You just cook some cauliflower, chill then add mayo and whatever else you would normally add to potato salad. Its great! I tried the fake rice thing once and I screwed it up and I haven't gotten around to trying it again, I'll let you know how it goes when I do try it.

Have a great day, I work for three hours(starting soon) and then I'm off til Wednesday! yay! So I have about 8353216579872 things to do! Fun!

Great job Corrie! Does it feel as wonderfull as it sounds? :)

I am trying my best to follow in your footsteps, this weeks weigh in has me down another 2 lbs, to 202.5 - down almost 40 pounds from my all time (recorded) high. After this "only" 60 or so more to go.

Thanks so much Molmerin & Talon!! It does feel wonderful!!
It feels great!! And when we all get there - we will have to change our thread name to - 170 anyone, 150 anyone etc!!!

Congratus on your 40 pounds!!! I am almost half way there too!

I look kinda funny right now however - I tend to lose weight on my extremeties first and then move towards the middle, and this time I lost some off the top of my abdomen and not the bottom (my uterine "hang" as I like to call it) so I look kinda lopsided!!!
oh well. It will catch up!

I LOVE that feeling of needing new clothes because the old ones are too big. I'm saving up now so that at the end of the summer I can go shopping and get new jeans and stuff for the winter. I'm hoping to be buying a 12 by then, and a 10 by Christmas.

 today was my day off, I really just lazed around all day. tuna for late breakfast. some ham and cream cheese roll ups in the afternoon, a chicken breast with some alfredo sauce for dinner. I know I ate something else, but i can't think of what it was. I hope I actually get something done tomorrow, I did go to walmart this morning and bought some lowcarb foodstuff. There are whole aisles i don't go down, cause I know there is NOTHING even remotely low carb down them. I don't like the meat at walmart, so I will be krogering tomorrow.
Every one sounds like they are doing well. I am thinking of digging out a pair of my next smaller size jeans and seeing where we are at. hmmmmm.

well, this is the day I am gonna get off my fat you know what and get some stuff done around the house. When I did low carb about three years ago, I got down to a size 12, shich I have NEVER been in my life. Funny thng tho, when i looked in the mirror, I still saw the fat me.
Thursday is three weeks back on the low carb wagon for me. I am still in size eighteen, although they are gettin looser. By the end of the day my slacks look ddownright goofy .
I think today I am making the broccoli/cauliflower salad. Maybe steaks on the grill. It is so stinking hot and humid out there by late afternoon tho.
I need to eat some breakfast, so I guess I will go rumage around in the kitchen.

Well its my day off, I slept later than I meant to, but its all good. I'm watching "the other half" and replying to email etc. That Mario Lopez on 'the other half' is seriously hot! But that really has nothing to do with my low carb lifestyle!

Today I'm going to make some breakfast(possibly resorting to eggs for breakfast) and then go for a walk and do some weights. Then I'm going to take a shower and nair my legs so that I can use sunless tanner on them(so that I don't look like I've never been out in the sun!) Then I should start my correspondence course, I've had it for a month and haven't even started it!

Tonight my mom is letting my sister(who is also on low carb) and I make our own dinner so that we can indulge in a few things that we don't get to eat anymore.

hey everyone. ok, so i was kind of down yesterday and this morning, I seemed to be soooooo hungry and just felt fatter than ever. Hello? Mid morning I discovered it was my time of the month.....No wonder I was bloated and hungry. ok. that did make me feel better. i then proceeded to put on a pair of size 16 jeans,(as opposed to 18) ok, so they are probably my biggest pair of 16s but it still signifying progress.
I made the broccoli salad. it is chilling in fridge, i know it will be wonderful, if for no other reason than it is something different.
I bought some ribeyes, and I will be deviling eggs.....does it get any better than this??? hahahahaha....ok, surely it does

Corrie,

I had a salad tonight:
Chicken, grilled, then sliced thin
1/2 of a pineapple ring, cut into small bits
some oriental dressing, watered down until it was 1 carb/Tb
Romaine/Iceberg lettuce.

It would have been good with some other things, but I was low on time. That tiny bit of pineapple is really nice - a bit of sweet for only 4 carbs. I think the total for me, salad, dressing and all was 6.

Hope this helps!

I need some help! I'm REALLY tired of veggies! I eat cucumbers and celery a lot, but I am tired of them. I need to go get some more veggies tomorrow, any suggestions? I'm not a fan of spinach(except in a yummy dip you eat with bread, but thats kind of out of the question lol) and I'm on CAD so carrots are out of the question. There are some low-carb cookbooks available now, and I have found them really inspiring. Perhaps you could check for one at your local library? There are also some great recipes in the recipe section of this site.

Also, could that spinach dip you mentioned be eaten with pork rinds or cauliflower or something? Just a thought.

I really like vegetables, and I've only been at this for two weeks, so I've been OK so far. I hope you find something that works for you!

I'm looking around the veggies section of the recipes, hoping to find something that sounds fantastic.

I like veggies too, I'm just looking for something new I think...we have a calendar from the Dairy Board of Canada and it has recipes for each month and this month's is tortellini and veggies in a primavera sauce, now I know I can't have that, but the veggies look so good....

What about some lovely asparagus?? Num. You can even have the sauce on top if you use real cream and butter in it. How about some pumpkin with butter (just get the canned - it is med carb and so good for you), or some squash (spaghetti or summer, both on the low end)?

I had to have a low carb bar for dinner as there was nothing to eat last night - and I did not want to go shopping. I also didn't drink enough water - sometimes it is hard to do when you are chasing a baby.

I also experienced charley horses in the night again and popped some extra potassium with my other vitamins this morning.

Beef Burgers with Feta and Tomato

These are a nice change of pace from the usual cheeseburgers. Serve them with a fresh cucumber salad.

1 pound ground beef (round or chuck)
1 green onion chopped
1/2 cup chopped fresh spinach
1/4 cup chopped tomato
1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
1 1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh dill or 3/4 teaspoon dried
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper

1.Combine ground beef, green onion, spinach, tomato, feta, dill, salt and pepper. Form into 2 patties.
2.Grill or pan-fry over medium-high heat for 6 minutes on each side for medium doneness.

I go to work at non today, I am planning on stopping at the Y to grab one of their newsletters with the schedules of all their classes. I used to love aerobics.....of course a big thing with those classes is the techer and the music...I have had one really fabulous teacher and she used wonderful music, and then I have had an assortment of not to hot. My biggest problem with going to class is that my work schedule is so odd. It changes every week, I go in early or at noon, it is a four week rotating schedule, and that plays havoc with any outside activities that have a regular scheduled time. but we shall seeI really love playing racquetball. although what I do and what real racquetball is are two entirely different things, but as long as the workout is great, that's all that should matter, correct?
My hubby would like to lose weight as well, but he says there is no way he could do low carb (he apparently doesn't realize that for the most part he IS doing low carb lol) When I am on LC there are no snacks etc around, so that has to help everyone.
And he really loves healthy food....he devoured the stir fry last night.

Just go right back on what ever detox plan you use and don't eat any carbs for 3 - 5 days. Drink lots of water!! (but you know all this right???)
Eat lots of protein to help burn that stuff off - you'll be stalled for about a week but then you'll have a fresh start again!!
Some times when I stall I break my diet on purpose to throw my body a little curve all!! It gets used to what is going on and I need to jerk it awake again!! So you eat a few carbs and then break thru your glucose stores again!

It's all good!!!

I did ok today. lunch was a queensland salad from outback, with ranch. of course there is no way in the world anyone could come close to eating all that, it is huge. I ate the chicken, and maybe one fifth of the rest of the salad. I got home just now, a little after eleven, to find that hubby had cooked up a chuck roast in the oven...just the roast, no extras I don't need...he is a good dude. I know protein late is supposed to be BAD late at night, but how could I come home and say no to him after he made it for me? so I ate some (ok, like he had to break my arm to make me eat it.... I WANTED to eat it.....no carbs so I am a o k with it)
it will be yummy for lunch tomorrow
today I had sooooo much energy, it was unreal. I was all over at work, I could have stayed longer and worked more, except that since the store was closed, I would be the only one in it, and apparently that is a bad thing...
My knees are hurting tho. no I have not even started with any supplements. I am thinking carrying this load of fat around on this tired old body can't be good for any kind of joint area.
Let me just say this. When I go out to the movies I buy popcorn. I know it is high carb....i justify by imagining it is high fiber, lots of roughage.....although apparently that is not true. none the less, when i go to the movies, I eat popcorn. i don't count is as cheating, it is just part of going to the movies. I don't go but once a month maybe. So there. I won't give it up. It is my choice, not a weakness, not a craving, just a choice.
YOU ARE ALL DOING GREAT THINGS....YEA US!!! :cheer:

Fri, Jun-07-02, 07:50
Dear Molmerlin,

Sounds like you are getting right back on track - yay for you!

I have to thow in my opinion about the popcorn, if you don't mind. I believe that life is about balancing structure, enjoyment, pleasure and all that. Eating plans are (supposed to be) designed to bring about optimal health, so I think they are a good place to start, but sometimes the 'human' side of it all kicks in and we eat for reasons other than health. To me, if you (or I) eat almost all the time with our health in mind, our bodies will be able to handle that occasional item that is not part of the general eating plan. The other thing, for me, is that as soon as I say 'I can never have -------- again, that's all I want. Knowing that I can have a treat once in a while, if I really want it, makes the craving much less powerful.

I believe that for this to become a way of life we have to make adjustments along the way. I don't know about you, but for me, the way I'm eating now is so much better compared to before. That fact alone keeps me from straying, because I feel so much better. When I do eat 'off plan', it's a small, controlled portion of something I really wanted. The first week I did this I had a 'cheat' once a day, and compared to what I was eating before then, that was really good. They are drifting farther and farther apart, and it's now a bite of something about once a week. So, the 'cheats' have gotten smaller and farther apart - not bad! This is only the middle of my 3rd week!

Enough rambling from me. Have a great day!

And DO throw your big clothes away when you cannot keep them on anymore. It's is part of the commitment. It's is like shedding an old worn out skin!

catinhat. you are exactly rightand that is why I said it is my choice to eat popcorn. That is part of the package going to the movies. I have no problem skipping the candy, I drink a diet pop,
and I eat popcorn. I am ok with it.

corrie, you should wear waterproof mascara to your son's graduation. my son graduated about three years ago and my daughter two years ago (or something like that) The second they start that graduation music, you become a lost cause. And then when you see your baby out there (surely the most beautiful intelligent clever and creative graduate there) you cannot believe he is grown up. so bittersweet.

Ivory, way to go girl. Incidentally, you started a fabulous thread here

Stopped at the Y, got their schedule. Ok there is one class that I can consistantly make It is called guts and butts. hello, is that not calling my name??? we shall see
I didn't eat breakfast, I just couldn't stomach eating anything, I just ate some of the leftover roast from last night, and four devilied eggs. I feel like something special for dinner, so i am gonna go over to the recipe section and see what's up :wiggle:

I still have my 'big' clothes in my closet but only because I'm too lazy to do a closet clean out yet, at the end of the summer I will.

Off topic, I love the sunshine!

I know what you mean - I cried like a baby on his first day of kindergarten - and again the first time he walked to school by himself......And how did you know he is the most clever, and creative creature ever to walk the face of this planet???

Am I determined to sabotage myself??? Do I just want to stay big forever??? I can't beleive it, I cheated again tonight. My dad bought pizza and I had some...why!?!?!? I was stressed and just had some, grrrr! I hate when I do that! I was doing so well for the first 3 months of LCing and now I just seem to be screwing up. I do okay most of the time, but this week has been just BAD and I don't know why! Sorry to rant and rave here, but I'm really mad at myself right now.

Ivory, don't be disappointed in yourself.....although I know we all get that way. Look how far you have already come. You are halfway there. Tell me that is not awesome. And it was really a lot easier than you thought it would be, wasn't it? I think everyone agrees that sometimes we just need to blow it, :agree: sometimes that even seems to kick start our losing. In any case, tomorrow is another day (to quote scarlett o'hara)
I haven't eaten since that meat and eggs at noon......ok, darnit, I did make microwave popcorn that is all i have eaten today, and i know i need to do better. i seem to do better on work days, cause i go out for a decent lunch.
My pants are baggier, but i really can't wear the next smaller size yet, this is the awkward part. The good part is that the pleats in my khakis are actually pleats, instead of extra room for my gut to fill up.....lovely visual for you all i am sure.
I think I am gonna take a nice bath, wash hair , put lotion all over(lemongrass sage from bath and body works, smells lovely) and get some shuteye. It will be busy this weekend at work, that helps too..... :cheer:

Hopefully I can keep on track from now on, I really want to get through the other half of my weight loss! I want to be thin!

I hate that stage where your pants are too loose, but the next size down are too small still. Its incredibly annoying.

I am so tired this morning. I have to work at 9 and I didn't get home from work last night until like 10, I might take a nap this afternoon.

Have a good weekend :D

Dear Ivory,
Everything we do is done for a reason. Is there something about right now that is different from the last few months? You are not the same person you were when you started this!

Maybe you are 'celebrating' that you've reached the halfway mark, and easing up on the 'rules' for a couple days. Another possiblility is that there's something a little scary about getting thinner, and you're protecting yourself.

Many people both hate and rely on their excess weight. It can be protection (people make me nervous, but when I'm heavy, fewer people approach me) or even an excuse (what's the use of trying for that promotion at work - they'd never promote someone who is overweight). I do not mean to imply that any of this is going on with you, but I have read lots of examples where people were conflicted about losing weight and being 'different'. Sometimes it was an expectation, other times a bit of a fear.

Every single one of us put on excess weight for a reason. We were doing our best to handle things at that time. Sometimes there are underlying beliefs or feelings that we need to look at. I hope this is helpful, Ivory. You are doing so well - I'm sure this is just a little 'bump in the road'.

Take care,
-Catinhat

Ivory, :spin:

Do not be upset with yourself about your mess-up. We all mess-up once and again. ;) Just know that you can get right back on track tomorrow. Trust me, I know. The week before last, I cheated about 3 times during the week and I think I even gained a little. Yes I was disappointed to see that the scale had went up, but I know that this WOL works. I wouldn't let the scale discourage me. I just hopped right back on track like I should. So far I've been 4 whole days with no cheating. So don't you fret. Plus we are all here for you. :there: Have a nice LC day! :sunny:

Thanks everyone for your encouragement!

Catinhat, I think you may be right, I think right now I'm obsessing about things, and that I can't remember ever being thin and it worries me that I might still going to be big even after all the weight loss. I guess in some ways I look at it that if I'm still big after, what was the point? Even though I know that being healthier and thinner is good, I guess I'm worried that my expectations of myself have been too high, even though I'm over 30lbs from my first major goal...I dunno, I just hope that I am happy with the results at the end.

Anyway I just want to thank everyone again for the encouragement. If I hadn't found this website, I would have given up a long time ago, its nice to have support from people in the same boat.

 welcome mal, i think we are all very happy to have you join us. how wonderful for us to get a prospective from someone in London. I think we will all enjoy reading your posts. I think it is amazing that there are so many countries participating in this great website. Hearing different foods and different mannerisms etc is always a lot of fun.
this morning i drove thru burger king got a sausage egg croissant, pitched the croissant. I could only eat maybe three bites of the other stuff. Just didn't taste appealing
Lunch, my daughter and her boyfriend came and had lunch at Texas Roadhouse with me. I had a large ribeye, salad (maybe four bites) and green beans.
Dinner I am cooking chicken fajitas sans the tortilla. I am also boiling a chicken to make chicken salad for tomorrow.(the doggies love to watch me pull the chicken off the bones, cause they always get all the yucky stuff..)
I think I am going to weigh myself tomorrow. i hope I have not gone up, I am doing really well right now. You know how you get into the zone and really do low carb to the max and there is no stopping you etc etc etc. that is where i am now. I know eventually there will be a cheat, but I feel great right now.
again, welcome mal!! :cheer:

Today was weigh in day - I am happy to report I am down another 1.5 pounds to 201! In the chart I am keeping, this week I had expected to go up in weight - since in the last few months I normally do after 2 weeks from when TOM arrives, but not this time. Just goes to show you that your body doesn't always follow your schedule!

Good Morning everyone. I updated my profile moments ago, yes I now weigh a mere 203 pounds. yes I am but a slip of a thing, tiny and petite......ok not quiet but I was pleased. I am guessing I will be plateauing (?) about now, so that I cannot see the magic one number. I am totally hyped tho.
After perusing the ywca flyer, and determining that butts and guts (and all the glamour that must surely go with a class of that name) sounds like something I would not attend regularly at this time, I have decided to go with private swimming lessons. yes it is true that at this old age I still do not know how to swim. It seems like it must be a wonderful exercise, low impact yet affecting virtually the entire body.
I am off to work this morning, I am eating some macadamias and some ice tea, I will have a big (low carb) lunch tho.
happy sunday all :cheer:

Congrats to both of you! You are both so close to hitting that magic 199! I'm jealous! I should hit 199 somewhere around then the end of July. I still have about 17lbs to go.

I'm really struggling this week, as I have been saying in this forum. I don't want to give up LCing because its got me sooo far, and I know that its my own cheating that's keeping my loss slow, but I'm still frustrated. I'm going to have to be better if I want this to work.

Anyway I want to go find something for breakfast and get ready for work. Congrats again!

Sun, Jun-09-02, 11:06
Wow, everyone is just doing great!! Ivory, you and I have about the same amount to get to 199 - I reached 219 this morning!! It sounds like you're trying to get there a little faster than I - I'm hoping to make 199 by mid-August. I don't know if I'll make that or not, but I'm sure gonna try. I have had considerable loss in the past few days, so I'm expecting to sit still for a few days very soon.

I just keep drinking lots of water and trying to exercise a bit every day. If nothing else, I should reach mid-August well hydrated and with the yard cleaned up!

Take care, everyone!

hi well done to all of you on losing more weight. and thank you for welcoming me into your group. today i didnt have any breakfast because we got up and took the kids and the dog to the park,by 11.30 i was starving, there was an icecream van selling hot dogs so i had one and gave my hubby the bun :D then i actually didnt fancy any lunch when i got home!!!!!!! it's amazing how little i feel hungry so far. anyway last week i bought myself one of these keto pizza base packs of the internet it says it is 30 carbs for the whole base but what i did was only make up half of it, it made a great thin and crispy 9inch base which i very lightly spread with tomato puree and added 2 slices of onion,3 large mushrooms and a fair amount of cheese well what can i say it was fantastic(pizza is my favourite food) so as that is all i will eat today im hoping ive stayed within my 20grams of carbs. today should be the last day of induction for me but im going to keep staying with 20grams for a few more weeks. i got tom this morning so my weight stayed the same as yesterday(i have weighed myself everyday so far, i know i shouldnt but i just cant resist) wow dont you talk alot when you get going on here lol thanks again for letting me join you and speak 2 u all soon mal

Good evening all. I worked hard all day. I had macadamia nuts for breakfast....maybe six or eight of them. lunch I got one of those rotissere chickens at super kmart. when i get one of those, i feel like a neanderthal or something. I eat it in the office in the back of the store, alone. which in itself seems odd, but first off, i don't eat the whole darn bird (although there have been times when i have) I eat maybe a fourth of it, but I just don't want to listen to people in the breakroom making comments about it etc etc......I know you all know what I am saying
that was all I had all day til I got home. I then made those goofy pork rind nachos I read about somewhere on this board. Ok, so they weren't as good as nachos, but then I only used cheese and sour cream, definitely will try again with the whole schmear...
I did buy some avacados on the way home. they need ripening, and then I will make guacamole to have with cheese crisps yum

Welcome mommi, happy to have you.....I am happy that we are all here. I do look forward to coming home and checking my mail to read about everyone. I am off tomorrow, a food prep day. I like to make something special for dinner as well.
good night all :hyper:

Well I made it through today cheat free, barely, but I did.

Does anyone get really discouraged even when they're losing? This is working, why I am so down about the weight loss? I don't get it. Maybe I'm just tired and stressed about life in general, and this is one more thing to obsess about...I don't know...

Ivory, I get depressed all the time. I think about, ok. so I lose the weight, then what, will my life really change? Would I want it to? I get to feeling sorry for myself. Things start to overwelm me, there is so much going on. But, I really do feel better (healthier) doing this. I know I am pretty much at the end of the easy weight loss, from here on there will be a lot of low carb, but no weight loss......yes I know inches etc etc, Ivory, you are still so young, and you have everything to look forward to. And you are gonna look fabulous living your life :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

I think I'm sort of scared of what will change and won't change in my life. Part of it is worrying about if I'll ever be thin, I've never been thin, and so I don't know what I'll look like thin.

As far as things changing, I won't have the 'big girl' shield to hide behind anymore, its been there my whole life, there are a lot of things I've never had to deal with because I'm big...guys being one of those things. I don't want to not lose weight, I do want to be thinner, but I think the reality of what that will mean has finally sunk in.

I used to get depressed even when I was losing. For me it was I think I was "afriad" to be skinny. I was happy about losing, but I don't think I could handle not being fat anymore. WHen you lose, people notice, and for me, I wasn't used to having people notice me. It was a very uncomfortable feeling. So I beleive I sabatoged myself so I could feel comforatable again.

I still find myself thinking that from time to time, but I try my best to squash those types of thoughts. But I could see myself easily getting back to that if I let it.

Just a thought ...

I have not told hardly anyone that I am low carbing again..when I did it three years ago, when I started losing, everyone kept asking what I was doing. when I would say low carb it was always: oh that is unhealthy, or I just couldn't do that, I can't live without (fill in the blank here) (implying that I had no problems giving up potatoes or sweets or whatever) or how can you eat nothing but whatever for lunch etc etc etc etc you guys know what i mean. of course once i went down to a size 12 from an 18 all of the sudden it all seemed less odd to them all.......in any case. only a handful know this time. I don't talk about it to anyone.
Day off, I got up early (ok, 8 is EARLY for me on my day off) I have my best energy in the am, so I am thinking maybe this was I can get something done around the house.......yeah, right
I think I will cook up some bacon for breakfast, and use some to make more broccoli salad. i still have to boil that chicken. I also need to dye my hair. (I wonder where those pesky dark roots keep coming from in my blond hair???)
My nails get a lot stronger and grow faster on low carb.....true of everyone else??? I am thinking my skin seems to be better as well, but I also know that while low carbing I tend to take better care of myself overall....moisturizers etc. :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

I think one of my faves from all the recipes is mock danish. Makes for a nice change. plus it has the texture and taste of something loaded with carbs. i could probably eat about eight at one time, but I do only one, and I don't do them that often, cause that keeps them special. something for when i just gotta have something, and i don't want another freakin piece of cheese or ham/cream cheese roll up
i keep meaning to try meatloaf with pork rind crumbs, but as of yet have not
Mal, I think that the lack of hunger will go on for a while, but, if you are anything like me, and probably some of the rest of us, I rarely ate cause i was hungry. food was a comfort thing for me. or a tradition(curl up with a good book on a rainy day with a bag of oreos.....pure heaven) The thing about eating regular is: if I don't eat semi regularly, then when hunger does hit, I may not be near low carb things, and if I am hungry enough, I will eat whatever I can find.......like at work, if I haven't eaten, and I am trapped at work, I will end up in front of that snack machine trying to justify 70 carbs for two ding dongs (sound familiar anyone???) I think maybe we need to get our body accustomed to eating at certain times, get it on a schedule. not eating will make it think holy cow...houston, we have a problem, no incoming fuel, slow down metabolism etc etc. Does any of that rambling make sense??? Now, if I could only hypnotize myself into thinking that i liked the taste of water......

I try to stick to one theory -
I don't eat anything that comes processed in a package.

If it comes packages - it's probably has added sugar/ starch/ and lots of carbs.

Ask yourself - was this around 300 years ago?? If not - don't eat it.

Only hard cheese, fresh meats, fresh veggies etc are your best choices.

mal,

I almost never leave induction. Try it as long as you can - I add variety sometimes, but I try to stay as close to around 20 g of carb per day as I can. :dazzle:

It is the fastest way to drop - I have lost 35 pounds since the latter part of March...You might want to consider staying on it a little longer if you want to lose a bunch before your trip to Spain (Yeah!! I am jealous - I'd LOVE to see England as well. My family went to Ireland and Scotland a couple years ago but I was unable to go :tears: Sniff). :rheart:

Since we're talking about weaknesses here, I might as well tell everyone mine...I LOVE fresh bread. I love how it smells, and tastes, especially if its still warm...so to solve this problem, I avoid making fresh bread :p

Anyway today went well. I've discovered, if I don't do all my water one day it is really hard for me the next day to get it down BUT if I manage to drink all my water, I crave it the next day.

I had 2 hot dogs and some green beans for lunch, and then had sweet&sour pork for dinner, with asparagus and pasta salad(I'm a CADer, so thats allowed) All in all, a good day.

I stayed within my carb limits yesterday, but I ate waaay too much. We had taco salad (no chips, homemade seasoning) and we haven't had that in a while, coupled with the bowls we normally use were dirty/used so I used a slightly bigger bowl (big mistake!). So of course my normal portion looked to small, so I added a bit more. My "clean plate" habit kicked in, and I ate it all. I felt, and still feel the morning after soooo bloated. Very uncomfortable.

Chalking it up to experience, and my misery last night and today is my pennance - I am moving on today.

I weighed in this morning and was down another 1.5lbs! yay! I've been getting my water down and not having an LC snack at night(soooo hard because thats an OLD habit of mine).

Anyway today I'm going to a chinese place for lunch, so I'm taking it as my reward meal(yay for CAD) but I'm going to try and make sure I eat more veggies than carbs.

I'm reinspired about losing weight, so thats good. I'm even going to treat myself to a new bra today. None of mine fit anymore!

Perfect!!
I find that if I am getting tired of the water and want something with a little flavor - this lemonade receipe works really well: (I shake it up in a bottle so it mixes really well!)

Ice cold water - I like to have cubes too!
A squirt of lemon juice (watch the carb count)
add 1 - 2 packets Splenda.
Shake shake shake
and you have low carb diet lemonade - num!!!

mal
Tue, Jun-11-02, 09:20
corrie i keep hearing wonderful things about this "splenda" but i dont think you can buy it in the uk im keeping a eye out for it and if i do find it i will make your lemonade it sounds wonderful

DEB!!!!! 198 how extremely inspiring!! You gotta feel like a million bucks. I cannot wait til I see a one. Closer every day, and yes soon we will all be trying to remember what that pesky 2 ever looked like!
Mock danish for breakfast, a VERY disappointing club salad at Bennigans (added to the very bland food, it was FREEZING in the restaurant) We had to travel three hours for training, that is too far to go. I ended up getting two tobasco slim jims at a truck stop to tide me over. I am frying up some chicken and peppers for dinner, with a little (ok, a lot) Frank's Red Hot Sauce. and yes, I made guacamole, and I wll be eating some of it
As always, it is so great to come home and log on and read all of your posts. We are making it happen :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

mal, you should really try to eat something - even if it is just a slice of cheese or meat or an egg. It doesn't have to be huge if you're not really hungry - but don't go more than 4 to 6 hours without a protein. Try to eat 3 regular sized meals or 5 smaller meals per day - that way your body won't go into starvation mode and slow/stop your weight loss. If you constantly give it fuel - it will keep burning the fat!!!

Ivory
Wed, Jun-12-02, 09:34
Corrie, I had a large lunch yesterday (around 1) and then didn't want food all day because I wasn't hungry and didn't eat until around 9:30...could not eating protein for that many hours by why my weight rebounded up from 215.5 to 217 this morning?

Its been a few days cheat-free now, and that means not even nibbles. Saturday night, myself and a few friends are going out to the bar, and I am so determined not to cheat that I volunteered to drive so that I can't drink.

Well I'm going to find food for lunch and to pack something for dinner, at work.

thanks corrie, i really was a bit worried about that the first 2 weeks i was in strong ketosis but i just did the test and i am now in moderate which i dont want to be i want to be in strong all the time lol so i will make sure i eat something thanks again, mal

Ivory - It could very well have something to do with it....Don't give in - your cheat free days will pay off big time all at once ..... One day soon - you'll step on the scale and 5 pounds will be gone virtually over night!! But the trick is to convince your body!!! (This is what happens to me....) my weight will fluctuate a little just before a large weight loss - almost like my body is daring me to give in and give up - but just keep eating!! Then when your body figures out that you're not trying to starve it - there is no food shortage and....BAM!!! :hyper: it's gone - just like that. This happens to me at least once a month - it's part of losing. Plus your body has to kinda catch it's breath and recoup for the next round - so you'll lose and then level; lose and then level etc....

When you don't eat your body starts holding onto to things - like water and fat stores, because it thinks a food and water shortage is happening...

I'd bet it is just water weight - and a couple days of hard induction will take care of it - try just meat and salads for a couple days and of course water.

EVERYBODY: What is really important to remember is that it takes more calories to digest the protein than is IN the protein. .... .

 BUT - (and this is a really big "but") your intestines requires WATER to digest it properly and in a timely manner. So if you're not drinking enough you're slowing the whole process down. SO DRINK UP!!!

Corrie
Wed, Jun-12-02, 10:55
I know what you mean - I was in ketosis so hard and heavy last week that by the end of the week I couldn't even lift my arms - I was so tired. I tok extra potassium, magnesium and calcium and felt better in a few days - but I slowed it way down this week!!!

Ivory
Wed, Jun-12-02, 11:03
Thanks Corrie! I will try not to let too many hours go between meals. I have been doing that a little too often lately. For example, if I work a 9:30am-1:30am shift at work, I won't eat breakfast and will eat at 2:30 after I get home...I'll try to stop doing that.

I am getting into the whole water thing, this morning I just wanted the water so bad, I had 2L before my breakfast even cooked!

Mal - the deeper into ketosis you are - the faster you will lose.

First of all - you'll experience fatigue when you are first getting rid of all your glucose stores that your body is used to running on until it switches to a fat burning metabolism, which it will do about 3 - 5 days into the program. Or it happens to me if I have caught myself edging my carbs up little by little and I kick start induction and crash back thru again....

The level people can get into ketosis also varies by their degree of metabolic resistance (meaning how bad does your body want to hold on to that fat).

When you are losing weight - remember that you are not only losing fat - you are also losing water and minerals.

So the faster you lose fat, the faster you lose essential nutrients and water. (Here I go on about water again.....hold on - need a sip).

So if you are losing nutrients fast - you could feel extra tired at times. There are a couple things you can do. Make sure you get extra rest, take your vitamins and you can add a cup of salad if you need to.

Add another cheat-free day to the total...Today was a good day, I was just guzzling the water, it just felt so refreshing all day! I love it when its that easy.

I had a chicken sandwich, some pasta salad and cauliflower for lunch(woke up late, so no breakfast). Then I had a peice of cold chicken and a salad for dinner, and now I'm going to find something to eat, maybe a deviled egg(I'm gonna have to go search the fridge)

Tomorrow I work all day again, and then I'm going with my dad in his tractor trailer tomorrow night...I'm so excited! I'm gonna be so exhausted...so I'll end up eating more tomorrow because I'll be awake for about 22hours(but I'm so excited!)

Mal,

I used to weigh myself everyday, but I was becoming to obsessed with the normal ups and downs of weight. Now I weigh in once a week, and even then I've gone up a bit from time to time and have gotten depressed. Next time (note I didn't say if) my weight goes up a bit, I will try my best to not get too down, since my logical mind knows it is normal. My illogicial mind... well she's a whole different story!

The key, like you said, is to stick with it, no matter how discouraged you get with a little gain - becuase you know it will work, and it will come off!

Ivory
Thu, Jun-13-02, 07:08
I think I need to stop weighing everyday as well because its making me mad this week. I'm fluctuating between 215.5 and 217 and its driving me nuts. I know that with my body I'll go down to a weight(ie 215.5) and then back up for a day or three(to 217), and then it'll drop down to the new weight and stay there for a few days. But I just want it to drop and stay there!

This weekend a friend of mine is coming to town for a night. I'm pretty excited about seeing her because its been quite a long time AND last time she saw me I was 250lbs, and now I'm 217ish. I also know she gained about 50lbs in the last year, so I'm hoping to let my LC light shine and maybe she'll get inspired. She's got some depression disorder(despite what her loser doctor said when she told him she thought she might have one..."You!?! YOu're not depressed!") and I know she obsesses about her body(and everything else in her life)

:p Those blasted scales....they can become obsessive....I guess we all try so hard eating this way, we want validated by seeing numbers in black and white. I think we have all gone thru that. Today I am going to dig out all the myriad of sizes of jeans etc that I have and pick a new pair of test pants out of those to work towards fitting in. I wore a pair of khakis to training the other day that I hadn't fit in in over two years. That felt wonderful,ok they were still big, don't get me wrong, but it was proof to me that there has been a loss.
I have the same problem Mal, of not being hungry, again I suppose we all go thru that, but I still eat something for each meal, even if it is something small. Sometimes just a two ounce piece of cream cheese, for the high fat content. How wierd does that sound?
It is raining this morning, the weather shows a great big gob of green stuff moving from illinois to indiana. i love the rain, so it will be a nice day. I am eating out with a friend for dinner, that will be lovely as well

corrie...cheese crisps, made a couple of different ways, I use finely shredded sharp cheese, spread a layer on some freezer paper, nuke for 45 seconds(approx) take out of the microwave, peel off paper, put on paper towel, this turns crispy. It has the crunch of a chip or a cracker. I like to put tuna or chicken salad on it, or eat them right out of the bag I keep them in. I had to experiment a bit to get times and amounts of cheese right, but definitely worth doing

I struggle with the scale too. I think it's because I'm still adjusting to this way of eating (woe), and looking for the results. On the other hand, knowing that I'm going to weigh in each morning helps me 'behave' in the evening when I'm most vulnerable to abandoning the plan.

In spite of that, I TOTALLY abandoned things last night - those darned lime tortilla chips again, and then lots of ice cream. On the other hand, compared to how I used to eat, it's amazing that this bag of lime chips is even still around - same with the icecream. The good things I can say about this binge are that it happened within a short period of time right after dinner (less than an hour, like a cad reward meal) and that the ice cream was sugarfree. I didn't 'finish off' either of them, which was common for me before, no matter what the amount. So, in spite of my major transgression, I did limit the damage somewhat.

The hell of it is that I am down a pound today. It makes me think I haven't been eating enough or something, I don't know. The thing is, I guess my body is responding to the fact that I'm eating so much better MOST of the time, so this transgression didn't do the damage that eating that way all the time used to do.

I don't want to keep this up or anything, but it really didn't feel like I was giving up or going back to my old ways. I like eating this way almost all the time. Like Karen is always saying, "Progress, not Perfection".

I'm still making progress!

Thu, Jun-13-02, 11:13
Corrie,
Is this emotional stuff, or is it physical? Do you need to take care of yourself for a few minutes, or are you ill?

Sometimes I 'feel' bad, so I take my 15 minute break and power walk as fast as I can 'away from work' for about 5 minutes, to get my blood going. Then I stroll back to work, noticing nature, smelling the flowers or listening to the birds. It gets me back with a minute or two to spare - enough time to pee and get a drink of water. It's certainly better for me than what I used to do - head for the snack machine.

On the other hand, if you're ill, go home. Take that nap, drink some good water, put your feet up and watch Oprah, whatever will make you better. Just take care of yourself and know that we are all cheering for you, OK?

Hugs,
Catinhat

Thu, Jun-13-02, 11:31
many thanks - i needed a word of encouragement.

i think i am physically over tired - and when that happens then the emotional stuff kicks into low gear.

going home is not an option (unfortunately) so i'll have to tough it out here - i hate that.

The good news is that there is no snack machine in our office and I have lots of acceptable goodies in the fridge.

well................... i dont have freezer paper ive never heard of it , so im not sure if they do it in the uk, soive tried it on greaseproof paper, ive put 4 little blobs of grated cheese on it and cooked for 45 seconds in microwave, they melted in a crisp sort of shape lol they were very hot so i couldnt take them of the paper till they cooled down, and then they were stuck a bit(think i piled the cheese a bit too much) so i waited for them to cool down and scraped them off, they did keep their shape i now have them on some kitchen roll waiting to see if they crisp up a bit i will let you know lol

Mal, don't feel bad, I am in the US and I am not quite sure what freezer paper is either. :) The first thing that comes to mind is what I call "wax" paper - it definately would be grease proof!

I second the thought about having the cheese crisps when you are cooking a dish and the cheese falls off the sides. Just had that last night with the cabagge lasanga. Yum!

I will have to try the cheese crisps things, but one thing I know is good is pepperoni crisps. Same idea, just take thinly sliced pepperoni and microwave till crisp.

Corrie
Thu, Jun-13-02, 15:18
I combine the 2 of them!! I take slices of pepperoni and top them with a little cheddar cheese and nuke 'em till they are all melty and juicy!! NUM!!!

Mal - Freezer paper is very heavy paper (usually white or brown) with a plastic or wax coating on one side to keep you food from becoming freezer burnt!!!

Hi all!

Today for the first time since LCing, I felt hungry but I didn't know what I wanted to eat. I usually plan ahead and take something out of the freezer before I go to work to cook when I get home. But today, I didn't because I didn't know what I wanted to eat. I actually thought about what I would eat for about 2 hours today. And I didn't really have a taste for anything low carb. But I also wasn't craving anything with high carbs. It was really weird. I ended up just snacking on a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store. It was good. I also mixed some cool whip with cocoa powder and splenda to satisfy the need for a dessert. :yum:

Other news-- I tried on a pair of pants that I hadn't been able to wear for about 7 or 8 months this morning and they fit perfectly. I was so excited, I wore them to work.

:rose: :rose: :rose: :rose: Kalondra, wonderful about the pants fitting. That is the BEST feeling, isn't it?
Yesterday i could not get motivated to do anything.......I mean I literally lazed around with the dogs. I got absolutely nothing accomplished. I did seem to spend a lot of time on food prep in the afternoon.
I had chosen pork chops on the grill, and hubby did a wonderful job, took his time, we don't want undercooked pork. I had selected lovely center cut chops at the grocery. As he was bringing them in, there apparently was a little accident involving the back door, a dog and the plate of chops. By the time he got to me, all he had was an empty plate. LOL. I dashed back to the store got some more chops and all was well, although we did eat a bit later than planned
I did make the chicken salad that I have been yammering about for a week
I bought some flavored water at walmart. I have been trying forever to find some that is zero carb etc and that I can actually stomach the taste. I actually found some. It is Sam's Choice(not the most cool of brand names)and it is cider apple burst, extreme fruit flavor sparkling beverage.....it has all zeros on the nutrition label. I know this won't replace regualr water, but I think we are constantly looking to add variety to our available choices
anyone notice my new number???? I will assume since I am so close to that 1 number, I will have a major stall right about now

Good Morning ladies.

I'm MAD that I'm awake. Yesterday I was up at 6:30am and worked til 5:30pm and then went with my dad on his trucking run, so I didn't get home til aroun 5am, its 10:05am and I'm awake! WHY?!? I just can't sleep anymore, I like to sleep so this is a little annoying.

I had a cheat last night. I had dinner at 6pm and was in a hurry so I didn't pack any LC snacks for the road, so I had to buy something, but we didn't stop til after 1am, so there wasn't anything open hardly, so we stopped at a donut shop(Tim Horton's for all you Canadians who know what I'm talking) and anyway I had a sandwich. I really debated not having anything, but I was really hungry and reasoned that it would do me less damage to have carbs than to go 12 hours not eating because my body would go into starvation mode...maybe I was justifying a cheat, but that was my feeling on the subject.

Silly girl!

Corrie
Fri, Jun-14-02, 09:51
Yes - Mal, you can eat too little - try to eat between 3 & 5 times per day. Never go 4 - 5 waking hours without eating some protein - even if it is just an egg or a bite of tuna salad or something like that!!!

HOW ARE YOU???

mal
Fri, Jun-14-02, 09:58
hi, corrie im fine thanks hope you are 2, i have been eating eggs ect between meals what i mean is in total for the whole day can you eat too little carbs or calories ??????

it is so disheartening when you are being good and the scales dont seem to move but i do feel thiner so it must be working
i am determined not to cheat (except tomorrow lol ) when i am going to the pub to watch england in the world cup, i will be drinking vodka and diet coke which i know is bad but at least it is carb free lol so i shouldnt come out of ketosis

what are you up to today? do you work? byeeeeeee mal  :spin:  :spin:

Corrie

Hi mal - I am fine as well thanks!!

Yes I work and am not getting a whole lot done yet this morning.....

Don't be concerned about calories - just make the calories you eat count. Sometimes I can go for days and not eat any carbs but the ones I'll get from a slice of cheese - my tastes just run in that direction sometimes. I love salad too.
We are having a big open house cook out for our clients today - so I hope nobody thinks I'm not crazy when I don;t take a bun with my hamburger!!!

I'm a Stoli girl! Absolut is nummy too - be careful with the diet coke - the carbonation and the aspartimine can make you retain water.. I have learned to drink mine on the rocks or mixed water with a squeeze of lime! - I had better stop - I can't drink this weekend!!!

mal
Fri, Jun-14-02, 10:29
corrie, i love this woe i am really into it and am not going to drink vodka after the world cup(or when england go out,so hopefully the final lol) until my holidays (vacation lol) in august but when i drink vodka i REFUSE to give up the coke lol it is my 1 vice on this woe and im keeping it hehehe

when i used to drink on any other diet i would order a pizza now if i am hungry i have a kebab(minus the bread)so thats a good thing, it 4.30 pm here and it's raining AGAIN so much for summer, hope i have lost some weight in the morning!!!!! ive been reading another thread about atkins kiss, where you eat just "pure" unprocessed meat and low-med carb fresh veg if i dont shift out of this stall after the football is over i might try that what do you think? by the way the oce cream was nice, tasted more like frozen yougurt but very nice  mal

mal
Fri, Jun-14-02, 10:31

Thanks molmerlin and catinhat. It was a great feeling to get in smaller pants. :D

Catinhat, I did not even notice that cool whip was packed w/sugar. I looked on the container last night and noticed it after I told my friends that I was going to make a snack. One of them asked me if cool whip had sugar. Then to my surprise I noticed it did. :( So does anyone know an alternative that I can buy? Maybe I'll check to see if they have some that's sugar free w/ less carbs.

Good job molmerlin. You are really almost there. :hyper: I am going to go to Walmart today and find that sparkling water you're talking about. Sounds good.

Use real heavy cream - then add a splenda packet or two when you whip it up - heavy whipping cream has NO carbs!!!

mal
Fri, Jun-14-02, 10:51
corrie what is heavy whipping cream??????????? i got some double cream but that has carbs does it come in a tub like cream or in a spray???????? my luck the dont do it in the uk lol

Corrie
Fri, Jun-14-02, 10:56
Heavy cream is what they skim off the top of fresh cows milk - it has the most fat - so no carbs. It comes in a small pint carton or a bottle like milk but will say "heavy cream".

then comes whole milk - which has carbs due to the fact the the fat has been removed.

Then 2% milk - even more carbs.

Then skim milk - the highest carb content!!!

Corrie
Fri, Jun-14-02, 10:57

Just pour some into a bowl and put your electric hand mixer on high and go to town! It only takes a couple minutes to whip it up!!! Enjoy!

Talon
Fri, Jun-14-02, 11:25
I beleive heavy whipping cream is very similar to your double cream - though I've heard the double cream is better!

Acutally the heavy whipping cream does have about .6 carbs per serving, but because of laws in the US, the cartons don't have to have it listed. I have a link to the USDA nutrional web site at home, but can't find it here at work (shh, don't tell anyone!)

mal
Fri, Jun-14-02, 11:47

Just looked the heavy whipping cream up on the heavy whipping cream, I was a little high on the .6, it is actuall .419 carbs per tablespoon. ;)

I'm feeling guilty for having the bun last night, I don't know why I didn't think to take the meat & veggies out and have them w/out the bun...

Well its that time of the month for me today...yuck! Ever since I came off Depo Provera I get it like twice a month BUT the good thing about that is that I usually drop about 2 lbs after it goes away...HOWEVER I have terrible cramps today and just want to curl into a ball and eat peanut butter on bread BUT I won't do that, what I will do is go have some cheese and something to drink!

We learn as we go along, and isn't that one of the reasons we are here? To learn from each other.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone...I appreciate the support.

I have to say I'm in a HORRIBLE mood tonight. Its that TOM and everything in the whole world is making me mad, but what is nice is that despite the hormones etc I have no cravings for traditional PMS foods. I'm glad because I'm in a bad mood and you just never know what could happen.

I'm going out with friends tomorrow night to a pub, and I volunteered to drive so that I won't cheat. I'll drink water or Diet Coke so that I'm not cheating, and then they can enjoy their night.

So whats everyone doing this weekend?
