I've been testing mine after meals and it seems to generally hover around 4.5 (UK) or so, how much is ideal to prevent too much insulin being produced?

That's 81 in US units and it is very good for a post-meal reading. What is your fasting blood glucose? Before you eat anything during the day?

Also, your blood sugar peaks at about 1 hour after eating.

Before eating it's usually around 4, if I have exercised it can be as low as 3.4. To be honest it doesn't move much at all after I've eaten. The highest I saw it go once was 5.6 and I think that was because I put a tin of tomatoes in the beef mince!

I was told to take mine just before eating and then 2 hours after, at which time it should be back to normal.
