non-animal, low-fat protein sources that are NOT soy / tofu,
anyone? Seems really hard for a vegetarian to get protein, I
mean really good high quality protein from food sources, not
supplements.
Please don't include soy. This is challenging.

There are several companies that make rice protein
powder. Nutribiotic is one of the companies making rice
protein powder.

Hi decaf,
If you could defat nuts or nut better you could include that.
Tahini (ground sesame seeds) with the oil siphoned off the top
doesn't quality for low fat, but it's a lot lower fat than
sesame seeds alone.

Besides the rice protein, some of the foods containing
proteins from vegetarian sources are: pine nuts, amaranth,
spinach, Basmati rice(wholegrain), sunflower seeds, collard
greens, bulgur wheat, brown rice, broccoli, back-eyed peas,
green peas, brussel sprouts, black beans, cashews,
wakame(seaweed), almonds, aduki beans, chick-peas, kidney
beans, peanuts, sesame butter(tahini). It is important to eat
a variety of vegetarian foods to ensure you are getting the 8
essential amino acids. For instance, wholegrains and legumes
will supply the essential amino acids.

I don't think you need to worry overmuch about fat from
vegetable sources. It's a healthier fat than from animal
products.

You said vegetarian, not vegan. If not vegan you could of
course include milk or yogurt and eggs.
If vegan, I believe the standard is whole grains and legumes.
Italians eat pasta and beans. Mexicans, corn and beans. It
seems that so many cultures have traditional dishes based on
grains and legumes.

The original poster said "non-animal." Dairy and egg protein
are animal proteins.
