I've been following Schwarzbein for almost a month now and I ate pork rinds yesterday! I see that they are on the do not eat list but I felt the need to have something cruchy other that cucumbers or the occasional tortilla chips (organic). Any other SPers have an occasional snack of pork rinds?
Other than that I follow SP fairly close, although I do drink one cup of water processed coffee in the a.m. and I eat a small amount (4 carbs worth) of dark chocolate almost every day. I also use performance foods on my longer training runs.
My weight loss has been a pound a week but the inches are coming off and my clothes fit better! I am never hungry nor do I feel deprived. I'm trying new recipes and I feel great. Again, my thanks to my fellow SPers who have paved the road for me.
Have a great weekend everyone! Maureen

Maureen, I can't see how anyone could eat pork rinds! I hate them. Needless to say, I don't eat them on TSP. :p

Thanks Deb Penny,
I knew I could count on you for an honest answer! i don;t know how I can eat them either! The skin of a pig boiled in lard! It goes against all I've learned yet I eat the crap! Go figure. Thanks for your help, I'll be a good girl and "step away from the rinds". Bye, Maureen

step back to the table. They are a good snack eaten only occasionally. I love them. Of course they are damaged fats and probably create free radicals. But just think of all the nacho supremes your no longer eating

Why is it all the stuff we want to enjoy is bad for us or fattening? Some one once told me we are living our hell on earth. Something to think about. I have always believed nothing consumed in moderation would kill me. The problem is can I be moderate. I find with pork rinds I can. Once in a great while I will induldge. They are great, but I find a little goes a long way. I was raised in an Italian peasant food culture and my grandmother used to put the raw pig skin in the pasta sauce to flavor it. I grew up on the stuff and I loved it. Can't think about eating pasta now. Binge time I fear.
Boy did I get off the subject. Sorry!

I would have to disagree about the hell on earth but that is another forum. No pasta for me whatsoever. I might make a risotto sometime in the future though and just eat a little. Pork Rinds are very filling. Last Sunday I ate a half of a small bag.

I don't eat pork rinds all the time, but when I do, I eat them without guilt and enjoy them!
My friend who's on Atkins gave me a nacho recipe that I like better than the real thing:
Dump porkrinds onto microwaveable plate.
Sprinkle with lots of shredded extra sharp cheddar and sprinkle with chopped chile peppers.
Nuke just until cheese melts.
Sprinkle with lots of hot sauce.
You'll think you died and went to heaven.

Looking forward to trying that. Can I do it without guilt?

Chewie,
Sure you can do it without guilt!
Chewie, are you a Christian? I know this isn't the forum, and I won't dwell on it, but I thought you mentioned it somewhere on this forum. I've been one for 14 months now, and it's totally changed my life.
I don't eat the "nachos" all the time, just once in a while, but they're really worth it.

Fellow SPers,
Thank you for your input, I will enjoy pork rinds once in a great while. They are better than the tortilla chips I was eating prior to LCing. The recipe for nachos sounds tasty!
Take care, Maureen
